Some photos from the drive with Clay, Betty, and Al.

Taken with a Leica MP and a pre-war Zeiss Biogon 35mm f/2.8. It has some rather interesting flare characteristics.

Figured out how to wire the backup light switch. Lights work when shorting #2 and 4 on the 12 pin connector. Pulled switch from the transmisssion and confirmed continuity with the plunger on the bench. Now just need to run wires from the relay board.

Took the '73 to an Arizona Air Cooled C&C this AM in old town Scottsdale. Should have taken some pix... 3 914's there but the neatest car was a beautiful 1952 split window beetle with semaphores, etc. Lots of interesting features.

Went with a couple friends, one with a patina rich A sunroof coupe complete with rear luggage rack and wooden skis, and the other with a beautiful restored long hood 911S.

(Cairo- getting a needed rebuild and returning it to its original 7/31 R&P)

Those old lenses aren't multicoated to fight flare like current lenses. I'm an old Leica user and repairman, retired as photographer 19 yrs. ago. You spent the big bucks for that MP body!

Moved the thermostat, will test it tomorrow.

I also hooked up the OBD2 port and tested it with an app on my phone called Torque Pro which is diagnostics tool and scanner along with a bunch of other features.

Would like to try RealDash one of these days to compare it with Torque Pro

Yea. The older single coated designs have so much character. Most of my lenses for the Leica are '50s or older. I save the modern lens design for my Canon EOS cameras. Yea. That MP was pricey. I got it for a good price though.

I've had my 75 since April of 2019. The passenger door gap is a little narrow and I can see that the car has had a hell hole repair. I was concerned that the longs were compromised so I decided to pull the right rocker today. Good news, the longs are solid as is the rest of the tub. The undercoating probably helped a lot. The door gap is apparently what you get from a 1975 body assembly line. Not complaining.

The front lines are opposite which tells me the hinges are sprung or the hinge pins are worn. Grab the door and lift up on it. If it moves it is most likely hinge pins. You can also force the door up with a 2x4 to straighten. Learned that from an old body man. beerchug.gif

I lifted the door and there is no play in the hinges. Prior, I opened the door a bit and put a hydraulic jack at the rear of the door and lifted until I didn't feel good about it. Just lifting the door may help the rear top gap but then it will not line up with the mating rear quarter. It needs to be rotated clockwise and then dropped down vertically. Based on quick gap measurements the top hinge needs 0.070 inch milled off the back surface. I will need to calculate how much the latch end would rise. Then the hinges need to be elongated to drop the door by that amount. It will have to wait until I am able to get access to a milling machine to make the adjustment. Right now I am relieved that it is not caused by a rusted long.

Carefully examine the metal at the hinge pillar above the upper hinge. That's a weak spot on the car. If you see any evidence of stretching (e.g., a wave or ripple in the metal) that could be the cause of your door sag. I had that issue on my driver's side door.

OK, it's been about a month since we sorted the ignition issue- the distributor cap was not secured correctly on one side so it kind of cocked on the distributor so we were not getting good contact on all 6 wires. Easy fix.

We also adjusted the C0 so it is right where it belongs. Car really runs "cripser" and generally runs better all around.

Then....... I bought one of Ben's tiny bit deeper sounding mufflers and swapped that onto the car. The verdict is I love it and so do my brother and cousin Phil. My cousin is a V-8 freak with several serious hot rods all putting out 500+ HP so getting to know my car has opened his eyes to Porsche automobiles. I took him for a ride yesterday and he was totally amazed at how it ran and sounded. Seriously, with the 964 cams, Steve Wong custom chip and Ben's full exhaust, I could just sit and listen to this engine idle all day long. It sounds glorious.

Then today I got the chance to spend some time cleaning it up so I can put a nice coat of Carnauba wax on it. I got caught in the rain a couple weeks ago and it got a little wet. Not drenched, but it had water on it. Guess what, it didn't melt or anything. Cleaned up like it never got wet. I did spend about 45 minutes under the car wiping everything off and getting it back to pristine.

PS - that's the lowest lock position on my lift. It makes it much easier to do the hood, roof and trunk so you're not bending over. Then it goes up one more lock to get the sides and bumpers without having to bend over. When I am under the car it goes all the way up to the top lock. I can't stand up under it, and I am only 5'5", but it is much easier to do anything under it at that height.

PSS - I love my car. Thanks to Jim, Kent, Bob and Andy for all of their hard work, experience and talent. I also want to thank everyone who made some hard to find parts available to me to complete my car. This is the best site around and without 914World.com this car would have never happened.

I was just asking this same question and @dangrouche was kind enough to chime in. hope this helps. He suggests printing it on semi-gloss photo paper (vs. gloss) - black for white. You may also consider going to http://www.whitegauges.net - they can custom print.

you can also go here - I had this one (21a) made for me but I have yet to confirm the scale is accurate.

@dangrouche

I take no credit for the graphic. WE can thank another member for making the graphic available. My temp scale was printed on 10-year old glossy finish photo paper on an old inkjet printer. If you have semi-gloss photo paper, that might eliminate any potential glare (my gauge is modded with LEDs) Make sure you reverse the image so its printing in reverse (white lettering on a black background). Took me a Google search to figure out how to print a photograph in reverse. You need to print an entire 8.5x11 page to get the one needed graphic. The attached graphic has already been modified for you to print without any further effort. The little "hourglasses" on the photo is where I used a leather punch to perforate and expose where the brass screws are situated at the base of the temp module. the holes aided as a reference to align and tape down the graphic.
