Send money now, so he can get tooled up, nice prototype though lol-2.gif av-943.gif

I worked on a new umbrella cover for my car today. It took some planning and it took awhile to get it to fit just right and I'm not totally crazy about the color but it keeps the sun off. laugh.gif
I love the color, Elliot poke.gif

No work on any cars today, but Jeremy helped me get my XT back together after painting some parts yesterday ...

Unplugged the battery charger and it started right up. Have not had any time lately to take it for a drive so it has been sitting for about a month. Took about a 20 minute drive, got a thumbs up and a "do you want to sell it" from a guy in a really nice VW bus. No thanks!

Finally, some 914 content to report.

The 'BB' had been running poorly since we replaced some jets a couple of weekends ago. When I got it home from the 'carb-tune' session at Kapt Kaos' place, found cyl# 1 was dead dry.gif I suspected it was a clogged idle jet or the port.

Richard stopped by the shop this AM and as we thought, it was a clogged jet.

We also fixed a nasty oil leak (right-side valve cover). Resealed the gasket, readjusted the idle mixture and took a short test drive. It's running OK, but I still need to order larger venturis and some additional main jets for further 'fine tuning'.

After 3 years or daily driving, it was finally time for new front brakes. It was more cost effective to just upgrade to 911 front struts, calipers, and rotors rather than have new 4 lug rotors drilled out to 5 lug along with new wheels bearings. Thanks to Bruce Stone for the 911 goodies. Spent this last week sandblasting, cleaning, and painting everything. I must say, the vented rotors are probably overkill for my car, but hey, who doesn't love some bling

Took the seats and backpad out of the 914-4 to scope out the seat belt retractor placement Saturday. Which was a bit of a waste, because the firewall in the 914-6 doesn't provide the extra 1.5-2" of depth for them where the later cars do. Somehow I missed that in my research... slap.gif

Well I wasn't thrilled with the fixed seat anyway, and hadn't expected to keep the backpad in long term, so... Lost the backpad (and the passenger seat-back) but gained a pair of 944 retracting seat belts.

Ironically half the reason for installing these belts was that there was nothing at all on the passenger side (and a ratty old 3" cast off web lap belt for the driver). Now it's safe for a passenger, but who wants to polish the 43 y.o. sound deadening mat with their back? I forsee bulk automotive carpet in my future...

Today I took off my old 4 bolt rear hubs and redrilled and cleaned up my drums for the 5 bolt hubs. The old bearings seem good so Im gonna run them and find out . Also made a little tow hole backet to bolt on with the strut.

Yeah, this little tranny has a demanding life ahead of her... uh, him... shim? Until I can afford a more robust replacement, I'll try to be smooth and gentle (and maybe say a little prayer at every stoplight).

Just spend the better part of the afternoon "trying" to replace my Rear Sway Bar Drop Link Bushings! Finally got them replaced on the drop links! Damn that was a bitch! Boiled water too! Got one end of link on the sway bar bar with no problem. However, the end that connects to the shock and arm: No way! I even got a "big ass channel locks" from Home Depot and it was not big enough! I will take it to my mechanic next week and he will put it on in five minutes!

Drill little holes in them to allow any air to escape, heat them in water, grease and a C-clamp. Should do it.

Yanked the oil tank. Tightened the sail panel trim piece. Put the oil tank back in. Installed the filter console. Installed the lower tank GT line. Installed the console to thermostat GT line. Test fit the 911 RS rear tires on the GT. Added 7mm spacers. Test fit the tires again. Changed the outer drivers side suspension mount. Set her on the ground. She likey.

Went to Home Depot this morning a searched for a tool to put the drop link on. A small bar clamp looked like it might work. Success! After finally getting them on I am fried! I am 63 years old. Hopefully this will be the last time I will ever have change them! Sometimes the simplest looking job is really a pain in the ass. bootyshake.gif

Also replaced my Oil Filler/Breather Housing Gasket which was 40 years old! As I result I had to adjust my idle a little.

I'm guessing that was CHP? It's well known that if they pull you over, you ARE getting the citation. Even if you're with another agency. Needless to say they aren't well liked for this very reason.

They just gave my 83 year old, fixed income, widow grandmother a $485 dollar cite for getting out of the HOV lane too soon (before broken white lines) to get to her off ramp. According to my grandmother the lane change was safe. I'd like to have a word with that officer. dry.gif

Caravan'd down to Garold Schaffer's Annual BBQ on the border of IN and IL with Mike, Mark and Glenn.

First time in ten years that I took my teener out for a 5 hour drive and at >95 degrees F! Oil temps got up to >110 C for a short period on the return trip while doing 85 mph for 1 hr trying to beat the rain. I had to back off the pedal to 65 mph let her cool down.

Started to rain 10 minutes from my house. Then 10 minutes after I pulled in the garage the storm let loose and their was a huge down poor.

Thanks Garold!

I've seen several places where you have to get out of the carpool lane a few miles ahead of your off ramp. It's frustrating if you're not familiar with the area.

Anaheim CHP got me on the 91 Fwy. I sped up to get away from some texting drivers next to me in the #2 lane dry.gif
Unless something's changed, I thought safety trumped a posted speed limit confused24.gif

LAPD rookie wrote the brake light ticket (during daylight hours). I asked him if he actually knew why there are two brake lights on a vehicle. Apparently, it's all about the $ now mad.gif ... I'm on a fixed income too.
