Nah, no powder paint for me. Black semi gloss lacquer paint for the O.E. look. I’ve sprayed the air cleaner housing once in 20 years.

past two days, busy with other stuff, but pulled trans yesterday ,found a cracked transmission/muffler hanger ear , today i got the gear stack pulled and got the original 4&5 back in. i knew i needed a better 4th for the mountains and the 5ths was soo tall it was bad for cooling, great for highway miles. i considered making 4.th a W rather than V, but just KISS put it back to OEM.

gearbox can go in the car tomorrow, but i need muffler hanger—- unless i get one of Ben’s Sport mufflers!!!

I can't just sit back and wait for you jack-stands to entertain me with interesting/funny/sexy post and pictures. popcorn[1].gif So, I took responsibility for my own 914 fix.

It was my day off with a low 80's forecast. Plus, piratenanner.gif I have money to buy gas.

I set out to do one of my absolute favorite things . . . find a highway I have never been on before, with any excuse for a destination . . . and go looking for an adventure.
I expected a pleasant drive to Nelson Ghost Town. flag.gif I was rewarded with a delightful Roadside Attraction.

So as my 914-6 is a '71, it came from the factory with the headliner in the top. Somehow I missed that during the parts order. When I actually looked up one time when the top was on I noticed it and then ordered a headliner from 914Rubber. Today I had the opportunity to install the headliner. Thanks to the postings of others before me, and the pictures they posted, this was a straight forward, easy task. I would say 1 hour start to finish.

The funny thing was I had a heck of a time locating any of the 3M Super adhesive everyone talks about. All the typical places were out of stock. I was able to source one out of state and it cost me almost $20 for shipping..... Oh well. I was glad to receive it and get this project checked off.

Yes, that is me, the old man, in the pictures. When did that happen? Now tomorrow I will install the latches and the top pad.

OK, I tackled one of the things that I did not like on my car, the K&N air filter modification. I just thought it looked like it belonged in some other kind of car- a Civic maybe?

My brother and I spent 2 days (yeah, we are slow at this stuff) fabbing up the mounts and pipe to install the NOS 3.2 airbox I bought. I am very happy with the fit and location. My next evolution is to send out a piece of SS 3" pipe, modified just like the 3" aluminum piece currently installed, to have it powder coated satin black. I think that will look more proper in place.

@Cairo94507

that new air so looks great! i couldn’t get any 3M adhesive here in SC either looked foe a couple weeks. it’s one of those weird things, but being from MN and knowing the crap that’s been going on up there o wonder how al that has interrupted manufacturing. there is a3M plant in my hometown and they make a lot of that stuff there, covid has not been a man issue there for a long time either so maybe it’s in the distribution chain where the problem is......
anyway your headliner looks great- that car is just amazing!
DRPHIL914
follow up to post #14308 a few days back,

my transmission is back in the car, the CV joints are reconnected, so is the starter ans wiring , ground strap etc. this has been an experience, and hopefully it all works .
shift linkage is back on but i am seriously contemplating the Tangerine rear dual bushing shift bar . right now i want to get it on the ground and tested out before i do that. I have to thank Dr. Mike aka Dr. Evil for the video instructions, and Al Meredith for loaning out his tools, thanks guys!!!!

so now i am patiently awaiting my muffler from Ben! in that arena we’ve been discussing the O2 sensor location, looks like this will work, not interfere with the muffler hanger, HE, or the oil cooler and transmission mount...

Had to media blast my engine bay with a soda-type media to get the horrible black paint a PO had put on carelessly.

Yesterday had to wash it down good with water for new (original Malaga Red) paint to stick.

Soon to paint the engine bay and put the renovated engine, new alternator, powder-coated tins and much more back in. Can't wait to get her back on road.

Got new tires, shocks and springs installed a week ago. New front struts will be going in next. Attempted to put in a Prototipo wheel today so I can get the original sent off and refurbished, but the MOMO hub I was sent must be a lemon as none of the holes line up with the ones on the wheel.

Also got to take the car out to run some errands and snag some photos as the sun was coming up yesterday.

So good to hear from you - hope you are well.

Wow - so much to do I'm going back in with the Webers as I had them tuned great when I pulled the engine. I'll have to re-tune them of course as I adjusted the valves, but just a long list of TTD (Things To Do) before I get to the D-Jet.

My goal is to be ready for the D-Jet by fall and make that my fall/winter project.

Cannot thank you enough for all you've done to get the TPS and ECU ready to run, and make the D-Jet installation that much easier. Injectors will go out this summer for testing, then clean up everything, get all new hoses, and install in after that.

I put an oxygen sensor bung in the exhaust to I can do some AFR adjusting on the carbs too to make sure I maximize their performance. I want the carbs performing at their max before I put the D-Jet in so I can make so accurate comparisons.

See PM I'm sending you......

Instead of going for a drive I took advantage of the nice spring weather and adjusted the valves. Glad I did. While turning the engine over by hand I heard a "bling". Tip of one of the adjuster screws was broken off an fell down on the heat exchanger. Metal fatique? blink.gif
Luckily this didn´t happen a day earlier when I was on the Autobahn, doing 150km/h. Could have ruined my valve train.
A friend lended me a spare from of one of his engines and I could move on. beerchug.gif

washer fluid bottle installed yesterday. it’s wired up but i am going to add the relay so it’s done right.

i mounted the new motor under the bottle next to air tube, the 911 bottle top with hose ans valves came from SMC, it’s diameter was 1mm too beg to get into the stock cap, so i shaved it down , also had to cut off 2mm of the bottom so that more threads of the cap are exposed to thread it onto the bottle. now i have the bottle to able to vent, and i have 2 choices for supply, either the bottom stock location, or cap that off and use the new supply from the top. right now i have the bottom hooked up to supply and too is just for venting.

this wire diagram is how it’s wired up, using a bosch type relay. not necessary, it could be wired direct but i will have the relay so why not put it in.

They are a game changer on the 74, can't wait to light them up on the 75. SOOOO CLOSE!
Going to take it to the electrical shop in the next couple of weeks to have the wiring tested, and fixed where needed. Not sure how extensive it's going to be but, I've been planning for it for a while now.
Not much to look at right now but, just as stoked knowing they're here:

Thanks John, I was surprised to find that all the lugs that were on the car were tight. Only 3 on each wheel. She hasn't been on the street for a few years but at this time she has all her lugs in place and tight of course. The wheels on the front wing are another story though. But that's for another thread.

After mocking up my stock 3.2 airbox with an aluminum pipe to be sure it all fit and worked (it did) I then pulled it apart and made a SS pipe and had my cousin Phil tig weld a stud onto the bottom for an additional mounting point then had it all powder coated semi-gloss black. I used three 6mm rubber isolators for the brackets to bolt to that support the MAF and air intake tube; it's nice and secure. Got it all put together yesterday and drove it. This morning I am going to a Cars 'n Coffee in Danville. I think in the next week or so I may take a nice ride to Oroville to see Harvey Weidman. That will be a good ride, about 300 miles round trip, to really make sure everything is tip-top. I want to be sure it is 100% for the WCR in October.
