After mocking up my stock 3.2 airbox with an aluminum pipe to be sure it all fit and worked (it did) I then pulled it apart and made a SS pipe and had my cousin Phil tig weld a stud onto the bottom for an additional mounting point then had it all powder coated semi-gloss black. I used three 6mm rubber isolators for the brackets to bolt to that support the MAF and air intake tube; it's nice and secure. Got it all put together yesterday and drove it. This morning I am going to a Cars 'n Coffee in Danville. I think in the next week or so I may take a nice ride to Oroville to see Harvey Weidman. That will be a good ride, about 300 miles round trip, to really make sure everything is tip-top. I want to be sure it is 100% for the WCR in October.

Looks great, very clean!

i found them locally at O'Reilly auto parts but Summit carries them as a 9" long rolled flat or angled end. 2/14"ID, about $19 a piece.

Great job mounting the 3.2 air flapper box without cutting any stock sheet metal at the trunk and clearing the latch for the engine decklid. I did my fittment 19 or 20 years ago when I installed the motor.

@Cairo94507

One of the tightest fitting areas is the air cleaner snout bumping the forward firewall and you have to get the airbox low enough that it does not hit the inter-web of the engine deck lid from underneath.
Are you able to remove the air cleaner easily after unlatching the outer portion.? That can be tight if not positioned correctly. I also took a quarter wall aluminum tubing and machined it down to the correct size for the intake system extension.

Again, great job positioning everything..!

Thanks. Yeah, getting the lid and filter off is easy. The snorkel would be a tight fit. I am going to get a clamp and clamp the snorkel (to make the opening oval shaped) and put it in the oven to get it warm and re-shape it so it will fit easily. It will fit right now, but it is just tight and not to my liking.

Cheers,

Two Words.... Heat Gun. You can do just the snorkel that way, without melting the whole thing.

my son texted me that there were two 914s at cars and coffee this morning so went out there and ended up meeting the owners and a couple of 914 World members. Seeing those cars inspired me to go home and replace my leaking injector with the FJ67 replacement I purchased last year. took it for a spin and it seems to be running pretty well. I still haveabumch of stuff to sort out but I'm getting closer to being able to take on trips more than a couple miles from home .

They do look great - they're one-piece alumin(i)um with painted centres and diamond-cut rim to give the 'alu-steel' look of the 904 wheels. Come in 6, 7 and 8 x 15 with factory offsets, along with a 'trick' 7 which has the ET adjusted so they fit under SWB 911 rear fenders.

Kevin Hines from Beck 904 I believe is reproducing those wheels in aluminum. I don’t know if they’re the same manufacture but he also sells aluminum “steely” wheels.

Over the past couple of months, I've been collecting the interior trim pieces for the car. Bought new where available but, as we all know not everything is. I was able to get some good quality pieces from @bdstone914 and @914werke as well as others. Nothing perfect, minor scratches, nicks or cracks, things like that.
Just got them back from a guy here in town that restored them for me. They look pretty good (despite the bad cell phone pic)

those look great!! they are the 5 pieces of interior trim that are not being reproduced by anyone at this point. usually the pillar pieces are cracked around the mount holes, or end up getting cracked due to age upon removal. also the only pieces in my car that i probably have that are original and in ok shape, but not mint.

Those will look great mounted.
can we ask what he charges fore the restoration? i would be glad to pull mind and send them to him. if he is accepting work,

@drphil914 Like I said, they were in pretty good condition so, the guy didn't have to do a whole lot. He fixed the cracks that were there and then re-covered / re-wrapped them for $237.00'ish
All in all, not too bad, I don't think.

Well, made a little progress today. Since the right strut on 'HOWARD' is bent inward and the tire is flat, I jacked up the front end and placed a couple of wheel dollies under both front wheels ...

... then started winching the car rearward up onto the mid-rise lift with a heavy duty ratchet strap secured to the left trailing arm.

Once I got the rear wheels lined up with the ramps, repositioned the front to line up better, then dug out the Parkit 360 motorized trailer tug to drag it a bit further back. Worked like a champ mueba.gif

Fortunately, everything else looks OK, but I'll take measurements to make sure it's still straight. EDIT-1:

Hit my first stumbling block dry.gif I'm having a rough go at getting the damn grease cap off so I can pull the rotor off. I removed the big O-ring, tried spraying PB Blaster and employed several pry tools, then wiped it down and tried heating the cap with MAP gas - all with no success. I spent a good part of the 80's in SD at the beach. I wasn't so lucky. I'll be using parts of the 72', and most of the tub from the 74'. I'm pulling parts off the 72 and cleaning up as I go. Collecting side shift parts, still need a shift console and the front engine support bar. I hope to get the tub here soon. I've got lots of welding to do. I hope to have it as a car again with in a year. Hahaha...We'll see. If you hear of any good deals on the bar and console, keep me in mind will ya. Be safe.

Hey, Paul. This car spent most of it's life in Palm Springs, an excellent preservation environment.

How's your car coming along?
I spent a good part of the 80's in SD at the beach. I wasn't so lucky. I'll be using parts of the 72', and most of the tub from the 74'. I'm pulling parts off the 72 and cleaning up as I go. Collecting side shift parts, still need a shift console and the front engine support bar. I hope to get the tub here soon. I've got lots of welding to do. I hope to have it as a car again with in a year. Hahaha...We'll see. If you hear of any good deals on the bar and console, keep me in mind will ya. Be safe.
I think I have a spare front engine bar, Paul. I don't have any spare engine mounts for it, so you'll have to source those from someone. You can have the bar for shipping costs ... or ... I might be able to drop it off during my next trip to AZ idea.gif @Shivers.

* Another option, my neighbors here in CA have a place right in your neck of the woods. I can find out when they're going back out there popcorn[1].gif

Thanks Mark, that's great! One less thing. What ever is easiest, if you want to ship it let me know the damage and I'll send you a check. Thanks again

I didn't do anything to my 914 today but I did manage to score two FI testers at a VW swap meet.

Getting ready to reinstall the engine/transaxle in the '71 after a tranny rebuild and engine head work... of course, by the time I'm done it will be 110 in the shade!Click to view attachment
