At the end of three days, the color is finally on. It has been baking for four hours at 100 degrees, paint is curing nicely. @euro911 Thanks so much Mark, I stripped it to bare metal, it is in great shape. Hope you had a safe drive from here.

even on sundays.

today - woke up. birds singing. solid eight hours sleep for third night in a row.
no idiots out in the lane yelling at 3.00 am in the morning.

got up, got to work, cracked all three cars out of my restricted linear parking arrangement in inner city lane way japan scale batcave. fanged around in citroen xm for an hour and a half just to loosen it up and me too. got its hydraulic juices flowing again. puddles of green LHM liquid on floor where its been parked for 6 weeks. sad.gif
then......... busted out 914 and flogged it around here locally.
deserted streets. won't say how fast i had it wound out, you never know what the authorities are scanning for evidence. but lets just say it was responsible where i did it.
stayed within 5k of home - within the law (i was exercising dry.gif ). deserted inner city streets. heaven.

waiting to get pfizer or moderna option as i am 60. no way am i sticking astra zeneva junkyard dog vaccine in my veins. i want german/american tech in me. have to wait.

Yes i used the spray product. i sided it foe the rear valance too.
i prepped it after getting all the undercoat off , i used the pre-paint de-greaser and sanded it with a 400 grit paper, cleaned it etc, it should adhere well. i am going to do the other side rear next weekend.

Thank you.
DRPHIL914
pulled the motor yesterday, removed the tin and pulled the head due to finding loose valve seat on #3 intake valve. no head or piston damage , i think the valve is ok too, but
but that loose seat will need to be repaired. Can anyone recommend an aircooled head specialist on the south east coast?

Turned my running/driving -6 into just a running one. Brake pedal just about went to the floor when I put it away for winter last November. Finally got the time to wheel it out of the garage and get going on swapping out the master cylinder I bought from 914Rubber 4+ years ago. While I was at it, figured I might as well pull all the calipers and send them to PMB. Amazingly enough, just about all the brake line connections came loose even though I know they haven't been touched in 25+ years.
Did start and run her for about 15mins and carefully pulled back into the garage.

Well, after a year and 3 weeks, I got my engine back in yesterday. Woo Hoo!

Engine & tranny cleaned up, powder-coated tins, new alternator, Tangerine T'stat, proper cooling vanes, cleaned and repainted engine bay to original Malaga Red for future paint job to take car back to original. Installed all new engine bay seals from 914rubber.com. Also neatened and tidied up all wiring and much more. Also tonite finally installed the LED headlights I got a year ago from 914rubber.com.

George at Auto Atlanta graciously tested all my voltage regulators last year and found them all working fine, at no charge. Thank you George. Expecting no electrical issues for the time being.

So much to do now - hoping to get the car on the road this week. Having some problems with clutch cable not pulling up the pedal even when adjusted to where it was before dropping the engine.........working fine before I dropped the engine.....

Will post engine bay photo soon.....

Took it in so Eric at Pacific Power Motorsports could use his sniffer on the tailpipe. I smelled the exhaust and it smelled like it was rich to me. Turns out it was actually running lean. He had to relax the tension on the clock spring in the Air Flow Meter by 4 teeth and then adjust the fuel mixture. Now it is running clean and the engine is really running great. driving.gif beerchug.gif

I have had my car into Eric's about 4 times now and each and every time I go in Eric treats me and my car like royalty. I have seen him with other customers and he treats them the same. I give Pacific Power Motorsports a 5-star rating.

I attempted to install the right strut assembly in HOWARD, but it's not working out as a one man job. I'll have to get one of my mechanically-inclined neighbors to start the nut on the upper stem once I push it up into place laugh.gif

I also need an early pinch bolt to secure the ball joint - if anyone has a spare one laying around ... pray.gif

Dropped off the GT engine lid conversion, engine grills, engine tins and fan housing to be media blasted.

Do you have photos of the GT lid conversion?
I'm going that way if the AC gets installed...

Post #6 and post #7 on page one of my AC thread have pictures of the gt conversion. Also search for the GT engine lid thread that was started by Eric Shea. His thread has a lot more details and is the basis for what I did.

Are you going to be showing this work to the guys going on the Route 66 drive this month?

Excited to Ck it out.

Went to collect the 914 from my local specialists, Williams-Crawford, after having the rear trailing arms swapped and fitted with Elephant Racing poly-bronze bushes and shafts, new wheel bearings etc.
Then bolted up new Group 4 Wheels LMZ 'alu-steel'-style rims, shod with 195/55 Toyo R888R rubber. This followed by a full alignment – car feels so different! New 140lb springs next week...

Hit our local Burgers & Beer monthly night out yesterday.

Nice to get the 914 out for a run around town.
Forgot I had the fuel pump shut off at first....didn't run too good w/o it that's for sure.

After that the car ran flawlessly.

Great to see all the different cars last night.

Finally got the replacement right strut assembly installed on HOWARD. I was having a hard time getting the insert's stem pushed up through the upper mount to get the washers and nut started.

I finally noticed that the the stem had inside threads, so screwed in a 6mm bolt with some bailing wire and pushed the bailing wire up through the mount, so my assistant could pull the stem up enough to get the washers & nut on it.

EDIT: Found a 10x30 pinch bolt for the bottom of the strut in my stash of metric hardware mueba.gif

Ordered a case of oil and a couple Mahle oil filters. I want to do the oil/filter change this coming weekend hopefully. We are going to take her down to LA in about 3 weeks so I thought nice clean oil and filter would be good. I have about 2500 miles on this oil/filter after it was changed at 1K miles. I tried to buy from Pelican, but they wanted more for shipping than the price of the filter. Ended up ordering from Amazon and got free shipping, so I bought 2, but felt bad about it. Oh, after a lot of consideration, I ordered the "Heritage" license plates for my car. I think the black/yellow looks the best on the car. What do you think?

I had been looking for a shop to do my 4 to 5 lug work on my rear hubs. Wasn't having any luck so far. I made the mistake of mentioning to the wife I could just get new 5 lug hubs from Eric. Fortunately they are not much more than what I was looking at used. So I ordered hubs.

Removed my first wheel bearing - just happened to be the rear wheel bearing of a 914.

Had to use parts and pieces from an aluminum seal installation kit and front wheel bearing removal/installation kit.

Hoping to be able to successfully install some pre-2000 bearings soon, after I get the other side off tomorrow.

I was careful as usual and heeded Bruce Stone’s warning about marring the hub - the knick was there from a previous owner ( extensive service records from 1989 to 2001).
