Ross, is that original paint?

Looking at the house pix, reminded me of some lyrics in a song by the Kinks: Demolition ... "Then we'll build a row of identical boxes and sell them off at treble the profits"

Funny how the angle makes your garage appear wider than your neighbors' garages.

It is definitely original color. The paint is in such good condition that I think it must have been repainted. However, the hood, trunk and door jamb areas have definitely not been painted.

I'm in a neighborhood of duplexes, perfect for college housing. each house has a two car garage, and at least in my house, each of the three bedroom has its own bathroom. I feel like I am living in the lap of luxury! This is what the inside of my garage looks like after cleaning it saturday...

Saturday and Sunday. Took it to Packwood and ran the piss out of it.
26 runs on Saturday ( EVO Phase 1 ). Then 14 runs on Sunday. Oregon Region PCA AX.
So I figured I had 35-40 minutes at full throttle. Two spots on Sunday I ran at the rev limiter in second gear.
Real happy with the rebuilt engine and the MPS adjustments. Ran a little rich at the end on Sunday. But it was running pretty hot.

Jeremy and I hoisted the rails for the D7 lift into a trailer and transported them from the house (where they've been sitting for almost THREE YEARS dry.gif ) to the shop, in prep for the lift assembly party on the 25th.

Tony (arg) stopped by and helped us unload them. Thanks, Tony mueba.gif

I had to back the 'BB' out of the shop to move the rails in, so I took it for a quick spin around the block driving.gif ... biggrin.gif

Also ordered 32mm venturis and main jets from CB Performance ...

Give me a call. I left you a message about shop and those 145 jets. Not sure you got it.

Regardless, I had to re-order the Jets yesterday. I hope you didn't order same. I Ordered from Aircooled. The guy I ordered from before I left on vacation didn't have stock, and took it as a back order. Ugh... I didn't find out until I called him Tuesday morning to confirm delivery. I should have ordered from Aircooled to begin with and I should have the new jets by next week.

Shop class started again last night, fyi.

Talk to you later.

.PS I have driven my 914 to work since I've been back. Had to put the battery on the charger last night. smile.gif

The silver chrome band around my heater/air controls really looked bad. I thought it was corroded beyond repair but I took some rubbing compound and after about ten minutes of hard rubbing, it looks like new. I am pumped! beer.gif
euro911
Rubbing compound works really good on plastic light lenses too smile.gif

Thanks to Greenie, who told me that I really ought to block off those holes left in the tin where the hot air plumbing used to be... Put some miles on it in 80ish degree weather today and noticed much cooler overall engine temps!

Pic of completed mini-project:

Put on the manifolds, plug wires and started on the coolant plumbing. I also popped off the valve covers and gave the rockers a good shot of oil, and spun the engine over for the first time with the starter. Wheee!

Worked on idle issues tonight. I expect it will still run rough in the morning when it's cold, but before tonight I hadn't been able to start it for a couple of days so this is progress. Tonight's test run showed that idle was pretty smooth once it warmed up.

Swapped the inoperative original tachometer (mfg date 3/70) for a hopefully working unit that's much cleaner (5/72). Didn't test because of recent noise complaints from neighbor... dry.gif

Ha! Well I suppose I could've tried to simulate a signal without running the engine, but I didn't think I could whistle at the right frequency...

No, one night when I was putting the -6 in the garage around 11PM he came out to complain that I'd woken up his kids (whom I've never seen or heard, but anyway...). Houses are pretty close together here and apparently he decided that the living room, right next to my garage/living room, would be the perfect place to put their bunk beds. blink.gif

To be fair, neither the -6 or the -4 are Prius-quiet, and my driveway is at an angle from the street so lining up and getting in can take some moving and revving. If I just back straight in and cut the motor, like I did Tuesday night, I have to push the car down and back up the driveway three or four times to get it straight while avoiding the knee-high concrete retaining walls on either side... headbang.gif

I'd say something like, "Small price to pay for the weather and the cars," but I just noticed my tax assessment... dry.gif

Finally, after 3 years of fixing I got to drive the beast. What a GAS!
I had one finally problem, the import document showed the wrong VIN (see build thread fo why) and the insuracne company ICBC wouldn't accept it. I had to drive down to the border and have the document corrected.....done and I now have plates. driving.gif cheer.gif beer3.gif

Tracked down that the current fuel pump is not working and removed it. Also drained all of the 20yr old fuel out of the tank and then removed the tank. I hope to drop it off this week to have it boiled out and cleaned. Then I will reseal it and paint it. I also discovered car already hey stainless fuel lines installed.

There is 20 years of dust I need to clean out of here. Also plan to replace fuel lines and brake lines from the resevoir.

matthepcat
Harpo, You might consider removing the sound deadening in the little "valleys" on your floor boards. Water can get into that area under your dynomat and rust will begin. You will not loose any effectiveness of vibration dampening from doing this.

Replaced the battery that was refusing to hold a charge.

Cleaned up the engine bay a little.

Put in new bolts and lock washers to hold down the rain hats on the carbs.

Sanded and bondo'd the targa top some more. Going for that smooth look.

Added pics to the 44idfs I am selling in the classified happy11.gif

I fixed it!

I was having a starting problem, detailed in another thread. Turned out the connector on positive battery terminal was really corroded and the end of the copper wire was also corroded. I changed out the connector, and cut about an inch off the end of the copper wire (to the starter) and she fired right up!

So I spent about $150 to fix a $5 problem....and I'm happy piratenanner.gif
(I think that about sums up the addiction)

Adjusted the valves this morning... #1 was good, #2 exhaust was slightly loose, and both #3 & #4 had very loose intake AND exhaust confused24.gif
Tightened up a few of the exhaust nuts and FINALLY no exhaust leaks piratenanner.gif
Tore one of the valve cover gaskets somehow during installation so have to swap that out tomorrow to get rid of a major oil leak.
Running good and hope she continues to do so as I head to Illinois on Wednesday (600+ miles each way) driving.gif

Heres some painting in the rain pics, it started after the first coat and I wasn't stopping. All patch panels have already been painted but ground bare where welding took place so I had to repaint everything. I also must admit that this was 3 days ago but I just loaded the pics today so that counts right?
