Pulled the driver side door latch off to start lubing/refreshing the door mechanism. One of the three screws that hold the mechanism was rusted so decided to WD40 it instead of stripping it. Will try it tomorrow.

Got my 2.7 case back from Ollies a week ago. They are somewhat back logged, and not cheap, but I am expecting good results when things come together.

Heard good things about Ollies- stopped by there last year when I dropped off a transaxle at California Motorsport, about 2 miles from them. A friend with me had his 356 case and heads there and he wanted to check on them.
I've heard from many people they do great work... looking forward to finding out myself.

Sorting through my collection of calipers preparatory to sending some off to PMB for my six.

We've got two rebuilt front at the upper left, they should be ready to bolt on.
The three rears right below them should be enough to get me a matched set of GT spec calipers suitable for vented disks.
The other four are a pair of A's and a pair of M's, and they're cores or hardware donors.

Thanks to this forum, found some easy fixes to a squeaky roof. Bought some $5 velcro and installed fuzzy side over existing seal (which the fuzzy had worn down). Also put some rubber hose over the latch.

Installed new AA 96mm pistons/cylinders on #1 and #2. All was going good until the new pushrod tubes/seals were being difficult. Give it another try tomorrow.

73, 1.7: changed the oil and filter again for the third time. Used least expensive oil from Walmart, filter from O’Riellys. Oil looked like coffee with way too much milk in it. Engine had a lot of water in the oil from m the last big rain we just had. Car sits outside. Rain gutter is missing from engine deck lid. Filled it up, dumped it out. Filled it up, dumped it out. Filled it up, dumped it out. Also removed and cleaned oil strainer. Had a ton of gunk and sludge in and on it. Went for a drive by the bay under the palms. Had lunch, watched the boats quietly pass. Listening to Rammstein, Eiesbrecher, Hank Jr., and Waylon. Good times!!

Bought and assembled a HF 12-ton shop press. Used it to push out my rear hub bearing and install hub bearings in my son’s go kart project. It took a minute or less for each one. Wow! Where has this thing been all my life??!!

Since my LE is finally in the queue for paint I've been working on Steve's '71. Back in late spring I posted HERE about meeting a new owner and cleaning up a few DAPO issues finishing that post with "Next thing to sort out is fuel pump toggle switch hanging under the dash and slop in the shifter." That led down the slippery slope of "while we're in there".

Turns out the fuel pump circuit in the ECU was dead and  @GaroldShaffer had a good used one. Replacement of the front shifter bushings stopped the popping out of 4th and some of the play but it was still a tail shifter with internal wear.  Someone had the gearbox apart in the past as there were beads of RTV on the joints and a leak at the mainshaft. Looking thru my parts stash I had everything to do a side shift conversion except one part. (Thanks again to Garold) So when the cold weather got here we pulled it apart. Note to DAPO: this is what happens when you catch the seal during reassembly.

With the engine out the area behind and below the bolted in angle iron battery tray had this hiding under fiberglass cloth. A new inner fender well, engine shelf, battery tray and support and rebuilding hell hole was next. Also ditched the firewall mounted ecu in favor of the original brackets.

The engine had a few uglies too. At some point the engine was apart and the cyl heads installed on the wrong side requiring this custom access to the head temp sensor. The manifold gasket was cut from 3/16 rubber sheet and sealed with plenty of RTV. The fan housing and all the tin ended up coming off for cleaning and paint. The butchered upper tin and the 3 missing lower tins were replaced.

A few more details and the engine's ready to go back in. And a pic of the car.

Lots going on but finally epoxy primed my only narrow-bodied 914. Will apply paint next week. (Orange)

I recently purchased this Subaru EZ30 SIX from a local socal member.
The plan is a light face lift, new interior and ENJOY. Very solid car driving.gif

A bit later this spring swapping to 5 lug conversion since I already have all components and wheels.

Tore down an axle for a CV repack and cleaned a bunch of rear suspension parts. Ordered new bearings and CV Schnorrs and a few other incidentals. The inner CV did not have any washers at all … CVs look bad. Pretty deep grooves in both inner and outer. Going to tear the other side down to see if I have double trouble before figuring out replacements.

I removed the shift forks and detent without losing any of the little pieces!

Top Tip: Dismantle the forks and detent in a low sided cardboard box lined with a rag, so when the balls or the pill try to jump dimensions they get stopped.

Thank you for the generous items we got from the zoom meeting we had last December.

your probably right about that, and also i think for a long drive, flip them aroudn with tips in back, but iall the pictures i see of them mounted have them facing forward.
- there is a clearance issue with them face up like they are not the stops stick out too far and touch the top, so i had to move them back, so for the trip down i will probably flip them over and backward.
