Well. I opened the rear trunk for the first time in 30 years. All after getting the 914 out of storage after a guy I work with who is into 914’s told me I might be sitting on an LE. (I owe him dinner) and it turns out I am. My mom originally picked up this car in the late 70’s and at one point we blacked it out. 30 years ago it was parked. And the cable release for the rear trunk had failed.
I’ll be bringing it back. But it does appear I have some trunk repairs to do.

That is great, post the VIN for the historian. The rear trunk had no cable, just a key and a button. Just a few suggestions, don't put a battery in it, and don't try to start it. Check the electrical system first for rodent damage and other possible shorts.

Thanks. Yeah I was advised of Jeff Bowlsby and we have connected and it checks out. He suggests I get a COA, which I’ll be working on.
Years ago we would go back and forth between the FI and dual webers. The FI was finicky back then. I can only imagine what I’ll need to do now to get it right.
My father and I have a pretty extensive background with VW’s, had many variations and did some drag racing at Bug-In’s and Hot VW drags. We are preparing to pull the motor assy to give it a good once over. During which we will tiding up the body and refresh the interior. If we have one thing in our favor my dad bought a new dash upper pad for it in 1990 and we still have that new sitting in a box.
I want to thank this forum for being a wealth of knowledge. Thanks.
It looks great from 15 feet away dripping wet. But it’s going to need some work

Can't believe it's taken me almost 18 months, but I finally installed the quiet muffler I bought from Ben ( @mb911 ) back in 2020. Workmanship is pretty amazing--you can tell he really cares about what he's making. It's almost too pretty to hide behind the rear valance.

Thanks Ben! pray.gif

I finished the air box and fitted the 4 fans. I'm so jazzed, it's been along time coming. I still have to clean up the box and mount the fans. This is a milestone for me. With out the printer it would never have happened.

Went to car and coffee in Scottsdale this morning with my daughter, only three 914s today, last month we had SIX! Then picked up my son, went to lunch, made some minor adjustments to the car, and spent the rest of the day working in the 280z he bought a few days ago.

I'd been toying with the idea of a cupholder for a while--and that large sweet tea was the the last straw.

I found this adjustable/locking 2-drink unit by Spill-master (at O'Reilly's) and cut up a piece of zinc-coated sheetmetal to hold it in place:

The vertical part of the bracket fits into the underside of the holder:

Just enough room for the carpet/mat to hold it in place:

Bracket goes under the mat:

And the holder goes onto the bracket:

et voila! ("and walla!") biggrin.gif

The base of the bracket (the part covered by the mat) is 9x12-inch, so I don't think it's going anywhere...and I can always take it out if I decide to get a little crazy G-wise. I used the remaining piece of sheetmetal to make a 2nd version of the bracket with a longer/taller vertical part; it allows the cup holder to sit on the center tunnel instead of the floor:

The holder seems a little less steady there, so I've decided this version is going into my old Volvo wagon instead... dry.gif

in addition to putting the carpet in today http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=358776, I also installed the front glass and the chrome trim. I had installed glass before but it turned out to be all scratched up so, I grabbed a new one and replaced it today. Fortunately, the butyl came out pretty easy.
