After owning the car for 12 years and it sitting idle for the last 7 I drove my car for the first time with a 2.0 back in its home. I got it to my shop and replaced the clutch cable, replaces the shift rod bushings and adjusted the valves and gave myself a hit list of items to get the car back to being a daily driver

No clue why both photos uploaded upside down, and no idea how to fix it. I apologize everyone

beerchug.gif very nice!! is that original white or off-white/cream?
mmichalik
Thanks @ValcoOscar and @DRPHIL914 It's been a long time coming. The white used is supposed to be the original color but, to me it appears to be a bit more off-white than I had expected it to be but, it was done by Auto's International so, I figured they know what they are doing.
Either way, it's a really nice looking combo.

Been real busy sorted out some "must finish jobs",got my pilot driving lights working as mentioned in a separate thread, got my euro front indicator conversion finished with the DIY kit a bought a long time ago from member Martin Baker, had some fitment issues as the reflectors had no holes drilled to locate them, sorted that and soldered/wired up from dual top filament holder down to power lower lamp holder for parklight as per euro spec.
One thing I noticed was because you have to cut off the contacts on the 5 watt side on the top dual filament holder, the lamp has less contact and tends not to contact as well leading to a working not working issue ,replace both lamps and sorted as the lead contacts on both old lamps were worn down.

Always had a problem with my amps gauge reading low so worked out there was a voltage loss running the power feed from old centre console wiring to dash, pulled the gauge and jumpered to switchable supply from fuseboard and got nearly .6 volt more showing and real close to full charged battery voltage...another win aktion035.gif .
Well my LED conversion turned out to be a waste of money due to regulations in my country, when I bought this kit there was no mention of this being an issue, but now they are deemed non-compliant due to beam scatter and brightness,I normally don't agree with these regs but in this case they are right.
Onwards again with my H4 lamps and TBO are pretty good, got the headlights basically aligned to body and pretty close without a beam setter.
Cheers.

Taking the '71 to a local C&C tomorrow- today I helped a friend replace the brake light switch on his '66 E type Jag. Porsche isn't the only company that puts parts in places "almost" impossible to access... but we did get it done, and even with Lucas electrics, they now work!!

Anyway, it worked.

So ... I tend to work on my car in 30-45min intervals after dinner on weeknights and a few hour-long stretches during the week. After one of those sessions, I wrote the above update - pretty psyched about approaching 0 deg camber. It took me a few days to realize that I was supposed to be targeting -0.5-1.0 deg. My enthusiasm got the best of me and I shot right past my target ...

Got the chance to pull my project from the corner of our garage. Was able to check several boxes of purchased items I keep placing inside the car.
Still have few more small boxes not able to open that are inside the interior floor and from garage shelvings.
Like most of the members, I ended up also having 2 or more same parts in my inventory.

Took it out for its first real drive after 1 year of ownership - mostly sitting in my garage up on the quick jack. Spent all weekend polishing and detailing and decided to drive about 10 miles away for coffee. Never been on the road for more than 10 minutes at a time since I purchased it. It's almost like having an additional car biggrin.gif

Replaced front wheel bearings, reset rear bilsteins to raise rear end just a bit, rebuilt rear shift linkage from firewall back. Also new coco mats. Front end noise gone and car shifts wonderfully now! Took my daughter out on Carmel Valley road for a short blast. I love this car!
May display it at Werkes Reunion in August, we’ll see. A few more things to do. Didn’t get a chance to install the Blaupunkt Frankfurt I bought at G&R’s swap meet a month ago.

Mounted some new wheels and tires while I spend some time refinishing the original steels. I think it looks pretty good, the car is very original so will go back to the steels once I get them sorted out.

Also removed old tint on windows

Fixed the engine lid, would pop up while driving smile.gif

Radio stopped working, so will mess with that this weekend.

installed a new MPS but I think it is for a 2.0

Been thinking about it. Ill have to swap with the 308 for awhile as I have no extra room.

I love tinkering with it.

Engine was running hot (Pegging the indicator on the 123 dizzy “dashboard”).

Went one jet size larger for primary and secondary on the Weber 32/36. Ended up setting the 123 to top out at 28 deg overall, which I think is the spec (?), and flattened the curve a bit. It was at 30. I know I shouldn’t change multiple variables at once …

Definitely running a bit cooler. No more backfiring on decel. Do not plan to go further with the jet sizes. She is running a tad rich (dark brown ceramic on the plugs), but better than hot - right?

Thinking about dropping the engine to remove any mouse nests above the cylinders. And getting new engine gaskets while I am at it.

So it rained her most of the night and was still raining this morning. I am not afraid to get my car a little wet, I have driven her in the rain before. But it was raining hard this morning and I was more concerned about getting on the freeway and having some fool crash into me because of the rain. So we left my car at home and went to the PCA event.

As soon as I got there I felt I had made a mistake- slap.gif there were many money fine cars present. There were 2 Bumblebees parked right next to each other, both finer looking cars.

OK, next year, my car will be there regardless of the weather. I met a lot of nice people who had beautiful cars. Rocklin Porsche emptied their shop to fit as many cars as possible. Cool location and well handled by both Porsche and Zone 7 PCA. beerchug.gif

Did a quick check of the valves and found two a thou over but otherwise fine. Was running a bit hot and read here that overheated heads can mess with the gaps. Figured it worth a quick check.

Overshot the RR camber and need to add back 1 mm to the shims. Lift it up, loosen TAs, add shims, tighten back up, spin around the block to settle the suspension and measure. Alignment is tedious. Now I see why Ray Scruggs says it takes a day and a half the first time.

Thinking through how to make the minute toe adjustments in the rear accurately. That is next.
