And once I got the speedometer back together and installed, spent the next 2 hours under the dash trying to figure out what the 30 yr old me had done with some of the wiring. Lots of loose connector ends just hanging there, I think from an extra gauge set I had installed at one point.

Lastly, pulled the trip odometer reset cable, it has bound up for years. Broke it trying to get free it up, so guess a WTB in the classifieds is up next.

Went to Kent in Temecula picked up a tranny for my cousin (Live in Martinez, CA) after an overnight stay with family friends in Carlsbad.
Forgot to take pic of us with Kent and his 3 beautiful 914s! Wow that 75/76 white project is so clean and solid!

Having spent 70 years in Iowa, I don't miss those days! And I remember many of those days, driving from Road America back to Iowa on a late Sunday afternoon in either my or my dad's 914... a little later we did enjoy the AC in his 944!!
You just need to take the 928 out on those days... smile.gif

Messing with some wires for the fan box.

Once we have the circuit board up and running I would like to take the atmospheric pressure sensor and mount it under the bottom of the fan box and see if it really makes a difference in the air pressure under the car at speed.

Don't know why I keep trying to take pictures in the dark. More of the wire organization in the fab box. Even though I know you won't be able to see it.

You made this project possible Doug. Here's a huge Thanks! to you and Rusty Acres!

Not today, but on Thursday and Friday I removed all FI parts, then I pulled the engine. I also had all the bodywork/rust repaired, primed, sanded, then two coats of base and two coats of clear. Will wet sand, buff and polish soon. Once it's completely painted, I'll share a picture. It's the original color, Adriatic Blue.

Hey Noel.....no,.....those wheels were for another project that I sold. They look great on your car though....did you go with 205's?...and how did they fit? I never mounted tires on them.

Tires are yokohama 195x60. 205 might be too tight for 7”.
It looks just right but probably on sharp turn it will grind the inner lip
fender. Maybe after alignment and good rear higher spring rate will keep the height stable.
Note: fenders have been pulled a little bit from previous ownership.

Drove it to my local "go to" tire shop and had the tires and wheels balanced and rotated. Turns out the guy that runs it is an old VW guy who built is first engine when he was 15. He was pretty stoked to see a 914 and even had his crew look up the torque spec on the wheels, and they used a torque wrench to tighten them instead of the air wrench. I thought that was pretty cool.

Then I drove it home and replaced the vinyl on the roll bar. Not perfect, but the trim should cover up my imperfections. Big thanks to 914 Rubber for selling me the vinyl w/o the sail panel pieces.

Craigers17
Drove it....then installed refurbished latches and covers courtesy of Bruce Stone, as well as a new targa roll bar pad from AA. The fitment of all of the parts was pretty good. As has been discussed before, Automobile Atlanta's roll bar pad is made of a harder material, and the finish is different, but I was quite pleased. Obviously, I'm the furthest thing you can get from a concours guy.

Tightened the clutch cable. Had been a little hard to get into first. Installed it not many miles ago so assuming it had stretched. It definitely helped. Still not 100% on how to set the pedal stop. My leg is not long enough to cause it to bottom out. Will try moving it down a bit.

I cut the rear wing open for the location of the servo and drilled a chase for the wires, also I'm trying to work out how much flap to give it.

Now that I'm looking at it I have figured out how to hide the servo wire.
I think a little less Gurney flap. What you see is 2", I am thinking about 1.5".

Live fast or get Passed...
I did this yesterday. The white paper is a pattern for the end of the fan box, it has too many holes in it.
The relay gives regulated power to the ESC's. Just about ready for a test to see if it will all work together.

More electrical work. I need more wire, it should arrive tomorrow.

Works the same as the first one, ignition switch turns on the relay, which powers up the regulator and that gives regulated power to the ESC's. By powering up through the regulator the delicate little ESC's should never have to survive a spike.

Started the breakdown of the engine lid for repaint/refurb. First step .... "de-nutting" of the lid grill. Sure...it sounds bad, but no engine lids or grills were injured in the "de-nutting" process.

Preparing for more wires. Josh tells me that he is almost finished with the Arduino board (has to keep making changes at my request) , but he is mostly complete. When he brings it over next time I will have about 10 more wires to run for the sensors and power. I can't wait because this is one huge Elephant Bite and will be something else unique on the car.

1st time in 12 years that the wheels are back on my 74 car that was going to be my V8 but I changed direction and this 2170 RAT Eng. that Oscar had before is now going in this car and then off to PMB Performance to finish

After nagging the poor guy at Auto Atlanta to death for nearly a year, their reproduction muffler for the 75-76 2.0 finally arrived from Europe. Let me tell you, it is SWEET. The old muffler (winner of the Bastardization Award) sounded like a cow standing in a pond passing gas huh.gif The new stainless muffler has the perfect sound for me. I did not want a "sport" muffler... I leave those to the teenage kids driving their Honda's. This is as close to stock as I can remember. Thanks George!Click to view attachment

Yesterday @Abes914 a local buddy dropped his car to me for various items he need on his car. He got 99 boxster as service car (well so I have space in my garage).
Few weeks ago, we did a compression test on his car, #1, #2 and #3 has around 150 compression and #4, the needle of the compression gauge hardly move.
Abe is already trying to check used engines but we waited till we do a valve adjustment.
So today, I was able to adjust #4 intake and exhaust which is totally no movement or very tight. Now it has 150 compression and #1 to #3 has 148 and 149.
Since engine is good, I went ahead to removing the HE and muffler and tomorrow going to install his 1.7 headers (Heater box removed) and triad muffler.

Working on the wiring for the Gurney flap. Running a circuit from the bus bar in the fan box to the servo in the wing. I'm trying to get it done with only 2 connectors. One at the servo and one at the base of the mount of the wing.

Picture shows the 3 wires coming away from the bus bar and out of the fan box. I thought that hiding the wires going up to the wing would be a problem but I believe that I have found an excellent path to cover it.
The Gurney flap will be controlled through the arduino board.
