Drove the 914 for the first time at night yesterday. Need to adjust the headlights! Happy, all lights worked, even the little fresh air fan light came on.



Wife and I noticed it'd been 2 1/2 weeks since the 914 was driven. All I've had time to do is drive it just enough to keep it off a battery tender. Really hoping that changes next Spring/Summer.

I changed the name of my build thread. This is the third time I've done it. Hopefully I won't have to do it before I get run the car.
When the car is sorted behind the installation of the Arduino board all the electronics she is going to an Autocross

I rolled it into the garage at the new house. I have several things to get done in the next couple months. I have to get it prepped so it is ready for RSR 7 next September then I have to finish the engine rebuild on the 944 Cab so it is ready in time for RSR 7.

Sixth in class in local speed hillclimb. PB at the end of the day, so happy with the result.

Had snapped off one of the seat adjustment handles when cleaning the car up for Luft8 (hadn't been washed in many months)...Of course the new ones look different from the old ones so you have to do both, 1st one took me like 45 minutes, the 2nd took like 10

Still need to reseal my Lexan back window but didn't want to take that on right before Luft, with the cage stuff in there I'm not sure if monkeying that window out is going to be easy peasy or a hellish endeavor

Flushed the trans and nut/bolt check tonight
Figured it was time after RRC and a local drive of a few hundred miles

Installed a new accelerator cable in preparation for the installation of new Tangerine Dual Carb linkage install....

You can see how easy it is to wrap one with the clutch cable ( I didn't leave it like that).....as well as how rust and grime builds up in the tunnel....

Luckily for me...someone has previously "modified" the pedal board for easier removal....

Speaking of rust.....while I had the seats and floormats removed, I couldn't resist peeling up some of the tar.....found some surface rust....but all in all...pretty damn solid.....removing all the tar.....project for another day(s).

3 Coats of clear caliper paint on fronts and rears

Did some more plating this morning. Had to get a larger container and mix some more electrolyte since these were too long. Three strikes of zinc....

and the dichromate dip. This pic has some dark shadowing, but in light the iridescence is nice. Much better than the previous black paint.

@914Sixer Did you use gloss clear caliper paint? That is all I have been able to find.

Yes clear gloss but it really is not that shiny. Had to order it, none of the parts houses had it in stock.

This brings up some questions from a noob: what are some maintenance stuff done on the reg?

every few hundred miles? etc?

Nothing to often
I try to do oil /valves once a year or 3k-5k

But I’m big on over maintenance Because of the race car

And that has paid off on road trips (knocking on head now)

Spent several hours moving stuff around at my shop like a big puzzle (not me but my Trusty assistance as my rotator cuff is totally ripped up and I cannot do anything with it for a long time) to get the 1974 with the 2170 RAT built eng. closer to the front so Eric and get it when my 6 comes home. Note that the rotissery is now carefully moved closer to the front door without scratching anything

Got the heater working

Took the 73 2.0 out and the seatbelt buzzer started up for no apparent reason, but the drive was great!

Worked on converting to Tangerine Cable Linkage....made a few mods, added phenolic spacers, but ultimately I'm gonna need to buy taller intake manifolds as I have clearance issues with the plugs.

Found a decent 'stuff' solution to keep the spare fuses, relays, DME relay etc that's not going to shuffle around in the car while driving, its meant to mount to the handle bars on a bike, works great when you have bars in your trunk

My brother and I took her to Greg & Sandi Taylor's for their 6th Annual Porsches on the Green. I did not count but I would say probably 40 Porsches arrived and all looked terrific. Lots of fun and plenty of food. Great hosts! Thank you Greg & Sandi.

I have been wanting to do something similar in our backyard, and end with a drive-in movie… maybe next year

leaking rear caliper so time for swapping this out and new soft lines i’ve had since Eric offered the group buy on them, got a Motiv power bleeder, hope that helps, i did this yesterday and then standard pump and bleed method and still had a slight soft feel so will go thru the whole system tonight not just the one side, but new pads lines an calipers cleans it up hard to believe i did those lines and calipers 8 years ago!

Been working on the rear of the car namely sorting tailight leak and fixing the resulting light surface rust as the OP's painters touch up was less that suitable in the trunk,now topcoated after using high zinc primer and POR15 for the worst area's which luckily were little.
Constantly looking @ my rusty muffler that is a bit of a dented mess underneath as came from a 911 but very sound otherwise,when fitted before first start after the engine conversion I give it a rough coat of zinc weld thru primer,rather surprised how long most of it lasted.
Selected Rust-oleum 2000F rated high temp exhaust paint for new coating but need to get all the surface rust off and that's not a quick job .

Went for a 2 hour rip! Had to try out the new speedo.
It works perfectly up to 160kmh as far as I could tell

The Arduino board is here, I watched Josh assemble the hole thing and test the circuits except for the flap. The motors sound bitchen. Lots of work in front of me but it's all installation and will be very gratifying.

The motors roar. I got an air flow meter, 2 biometric pressure sensors with temperature and humidity. The Arduino board also controls the Gurney Flap It puts the flap in full up during breaking.

Going Digital. If I get everything working it will be posted here first. I think that this thread is responsible for over half of the over 42,000 viewers on my build thread. I almost feel like I am bogarting this thread...

I'm moving stuff back to the car, the wing is in place although I know it has to come back out for cleaning and centering of the servo.

Took my neices 7 year old son Leighton for his first ride in Elvira. He said it was "The Best Ride Ever."

Raced it for three days in salt lake

Got #3 on the lift, building a new 2056 (with big valve heads, Elgin cam and twin Webers) for it and going after a bit of decay in the hell hole area. With 4 in the stable I have my work cut out.

Plan is one for each grandchild

I finally rekeyed my door locks! Easier than I thought, and now both doors open with my key.

Did you had a mph speedo? Or was it a one to one replacement? Mine has a mph and I want to switch to km/h, In Mexico is what we use and mine was a California car…
