Did you have to fabricate the brackets for these lights?

Did you have to fabricate the brackets for these lights?

I used a piece of flat stock as an extender between the provided brackets and the factory bolt location. I just drilled a hole in each end to pass the bolt through on each end. Worked great!

Cool, Thanks! I think I have the same lights but haven’t tried to fit them up yet, but figured on having to make a bracket (or extension).

Fingered out how to clock the wipers out of the way

And did the arm mod. And while I was at it I baked
a ome paint on and polished the springs. When I got
the car in 82 the wipers and bumpers had been
painted black.

I did the the reverse park years ago on mine, maybe will get around to doing the wiper arms mod someday...
Pretty sure I posted the procedure, which I got from someone else, but I'll be darned if I can figure out how to search for it.

Installed engine bay "gaskets". They went in much easier that expected.

Also reattached the crossbar to the engine.

Install may be happening this week!

I removed the window “fuzzies” from my doors in prep for paint. I’d like to meet the engineer who designed these and give him a swift kick in the nuts! Wasted 2 hours getting these out of my pair of doors. What a great idea to put 3 plain steel screws in an inaccessible position to rust away and get to impossibility level 5 to remove.

Got my new AN fittings installed for the fuel line today.

I replaced the gasket on my fuel cell..............and dropped my socket down beside the tank. 10 mm of course. I'll find it when I have occasion to pull the tank, maybe never.

On Saturday I put new front rotors and pads, plus repacked the front bearings on Elwood.

On Sunday I installed the new ignition switch so now all the keys match again, and I put in a stock early breakaway park brake handle.

The metal on the bottom is the old rusted metal and the PO patched it with new metal. I guess it's time to cut it out and put in a new piece from Restoration Design...

So it wasn't technically today, but on Sunday we had a pretty big milestone. My son, who's been riding in the 914 since he was 3, got his first turn behind the wheel. Same car and same two people in both photos:

I replaced the injectors , hoses etc on the drivers side of the 76
Then I went to the passenger side….I need to remove many more things just to get in there to work.

Passenger side is always a PITA. Decel valve and MPS are always in the way when dealing with the fuel lines to the injectors and removing them is also a PITA with how they are mounted.

Drove 'em both as they hadn't been exercised in a while... good therapy!

BTW flipb- love the pix!! I'll have to find some of those myself! Hope I'm around long enough to see my grandsons (and grand daughter) learn to drive one of the 914's as well. Both my boys figured out the dogleg!!)

Well, not as much to the car, but related to it.

My youngest just turned 13, and basically climbed in and out of it on Sunday, both before and after acquisition of a Sparco EVO2 seat (not mounted yet). He thoroughly enjoyed removing the steering wheel, turning it full left and full right, etc.

I gave him a brief overview/lesson in internal combustion engines, transmissions and clutches, liquid cooled vs air cooled, how brakes and ABS work, etc.

Fun day ... new helper added to the pit crew ... and eager driver to be. My oldest is also on board. We'll see about my daughter ... she used to go Karting with my oldest, but now that she's getting her license, she's a bit timid.

For us outsde the US territory it is sometimes complicated to get parts for our cars.

Thank you guys in the forum for all the input and resources, I managed most of the requirements. With 914 rubber, autoatlanta, and a lot of Ebay, But there is a single part that has proven to be complicated to say the least.

My broken windshield. headbang.gif

Via 914Werke I located the part but had to be delivered via Houston Tx., so I needed to drive from Mexico City to Houston to drive the part into Mexico. The packaging I see in pictures will not stand the freight delivery, not in one piece at leat. I walked into Tijunana with the exhaust silencer and it was an adventure, but the windshield was a bit more complicated for me.

Some 6 months ago I went to the PORSCHE dealer near my home and asked the parts person if he can get me the part, he said he was going to ask “Planta in Puebla”. and he sent me a positive reply last week “We got the part number!, and I can get you the part for your 1974 car”. Which I really, REALY! appreciate from Porsche.

The price is a lot more expensive than what I can get it in Houston Tx., but the weekend trip and wife & kids shopping will be a lot more considerable, so I went to the dealer and put in a 50% deposit for the part.

Now lets see what we get in 5 weeks. In any case is promising. Now I need the frame clips and install kit from Autoatlanta jijijiji chair.gif (o and a new gear lever, it moves around its broken).

The fun side is, with the set of papers I got with the car, was a windshield receipt for the customs agent in 1981, to the previous owner to import and deliver to his office in Mexico City. But the part was not anywhere to be found.

Took her for a little ride to Grass Valley and back. It's only about a 60 miles round-trip; on the way home she turned over 98K miles. That's about 8,300 miles since restoration.

Had a two-fer. Got her out for a nice little round trip of about 40 miles, return with the roof off. Got a honk from someone said he used to have a '72.
For the '914 sightings', rolled the trip odometer to 914.6. One thousand miles since the last time in February 2017.

Getting ready to put the engine back in. My first time.

I got the hardware all set up and positioned the engine under the car. Read all the engine removal/ install threads I could find.

Have to get up the nerve to just do it tomorrow ...

Just finished pulling out the Tilton pedals to correct the throttle return spring being over rotated. Adjusted the steering shaft so it no longer interferes with the throttle pedal.

Looking at getting the DBW linkage, sensor, and stiffer return spring.

Possibly getting solid doors, Sparco seat for the passenger side, and pair of Sparco 6 pt harnesses next week.

Rear targa latches acquired, as well as wiper assembly. Looking for wiper motor and washer bottle.

Designed cage mods, rear firewall plans, and fuel pump/filter placement.

We went to the Diablo Region PCA Wash 'n Shine at the Danville Livery. Very nice comfortable location; had about 100 Porsches in the show. Good crowd of people with music and Mexican food. What's not to like?

Oh, and I caught Greg T. trying to smuggle Steve's daughter, Maddie, into the show:
