winter hibernation for now beerchug.gif

Did you put some sort of anti mice stuff in there?
potomacmidget
I drilled out my old broken driver seat adjuster, installed a new seat adjuster from 914rubber (very nice) and successfully had a locksmith cut my new key today (although for some reason he was some sort of nut and complained the whole time and even complained about the blank which was genuine porsche...oh well. Greased my seat rails and now I have a workin seat. Supposed to rain tomorrow so no drive time in the near future...

I got one piston off the rod so it's cleaned and has a new set of rings it. The wrist pins gave me a fit headbang.gif Tomorrow may be a couple more biggrin.gif

Use a propane torch and warm the piston, pins will then slide out w/ no drama.

I bought a new propane torch today biggrin.gif since I could not find mine mad.gif

Swapped out my leaking heat exchanger with the repaired unit. So much quieter but now I hear some minor leaks at the muffler mount. Probably just need some new gaskets. aktion035.gif

Mark, why the heat shrink on the SS fuel lines?

As for my car? hm, I checked the FedEx tracking number for the metal bits to fix the passenger long area.

WOOT! Wait, are loose swing A-arms hussies?

Good on ya man.

That engine is comming out of the car again tomorrow, time to clean up the engine bay.
euro911
Hey Robert, you're back home?

The heat-shrink tubing was recommended to insulate the fuel lines since they share the tunnel with the electrical harness. $3. for a 10mm x 8-foot roll from Harbor Freight sounded like a worthwhile investment.. They also had some heat guns on sale for $10. blowtorch.gif
HeloMech
Mark, sounds like a good idea. I want to pick up a set of SS fuel lines. Was just talking to the guy yesterday about it. I'll have to stop by HF for some shrinky dinks. Already have a couple of heat guns.

Oh, and yeah, I'm home. Came home end of september. Have taken all this time off, started back to school. Just accepted a job offer last week. Guess that means the next year and 8 months are going to be busy. Full time work, full time school and a commute back to the OC again.

According to my tracking number, the long parts from RD will be here tomorrow and I believe morph is shipping my carpet kit today.
HeloMech
Hey Mark... just remembered I had an old photobucket account and was looking through some of the albums there. Remember this? lol

Finally put the carpet mats and center console back in. Had pulled the mats a few weeks ago after I left the car out in a major rain storm. Apparently I have a few leaks dry.gif

After stripping it down, having it powdercoated semi-gloss black, adding the repainted grills, added my new GT style engine lid. Added only one torsion springy thingamobob so it doesn't whack the targa bar when opened. Me likey.

I'll pick those up from Pelican on Monday

Drove ~120 miles on "Vic's Magical Mystery Tour" along back roads of east Tennessee.

Line up of all the Porsches at our lunch stop. My 914 and a couple of early 911s were outnumbered 4:1 by the more modern Porsches.

While trying to get my 72. 1.7. To start, I pulled the points, bent them into shape, cleaned and set them. This didn't make it start but it did fix the tach which was going crazy when I drove it. Fixed the starting with a new fuse under the hood.

Built intake scoops for my rocker panels to feed the rear brakes.
Built side intake scoops for my rear quarters to feed the beast with a little forced air induction.
Made an absolute mess of my garage with fiberglass debris, wax paper and discarded mold materials.
Got side panel marked for potential placement of air scoop.
Realized that I have a Vespa in my garage.
Realized that both of my bikes haven't been ridden in months.
Watched some Dakar Rally.

tonight, sand scoops, cut fenders and rockers.
PeeGreen 914
Nice smile.gif Sounds like your car is coming along Chris. I didn't know you were back.
timofly
Repaired the horn, put on better sail panel trim pieces, boxed up a bunch of parts for Bill, thought about all the other shit I should be doing, said "the hell with it" and took it out to run the "mountain". I think this was it for winter, since the morons in town started putting salt down for a 1/2 inch snowfall last week!

Man, this car loves the cold weather, but salt is a killer, so into the barn he goes, covered with plastic, tank with almost full fuel and stabilizer and 35 psi in the tires. Sigh...see you in April.

raw1298
Adjusted the valve using the Capn' method. Replaced a few connecters in the wiring harness. Chased down a couple of vacume leaks. Car is running much smoother now.
HeloMech
I pulled the fuel tank and relocated the dead mouse and dirt which were in there. Metal all looks solid in there. I think next for it is the por15 tank kit and some SS fuel lines.

@ Jon, yep, finally! More trips in the pipe, but getting busy on the 914. sawzall-smiley.gif

Today I removed the seats, backpad, sound pad, seat brackets, armrest, deposit box, whatever was left of the carpet, seatbelts, etc. Then used the shopvac to clean up the floor. Found a couple of rusty bits on the driver's side floor. Nothing too crazy yet. Next will be to heatgun/putty knife the floor to remove the sound deadening goop.

FedEx also showed up today with the long/sill repair parts I ordered from RD a couple of weeks ago.

As soon as I get the gasket for my dirtbike engine this week, I'll put that back together to free up garage and bench space, then, drop the engine and trans, tires/wheels and according to Joe, the suspension, etc. Then, rotisserie that biyatch! smile.gif grindy grindy weldy weldy...

edit: also, it looks like someone jacked the car up by putting a floor jack under the driver's seat area. Behind the bracing that locks the front of the seat tilt. That area where the large round plug comes out is all pushed upward.
dadaDaveed
Over the weekend I put a flipped H-gear into my tranny. Glad, I opened it up again to do that... I found my pinion shaft bearing was toast. All better now.

Today, I continued welding in the engman kit, and I pulled the crusty old tie rods off the steering rack. I've got my 1 year old daughter with me during the week... when she goes down for a nap... I go down to the garage and play. smash.gif

Not a whole lot today, but any forward progress is better than nothing.

Installed new rubber seals in the engine compartment, then moved to the interior. Removed the seats and carpet (found a little over a dollar in loose change down there) piratenanner.gif

Vacuumed and wiped-down the interior side of the firewall, then applied some rubber under-coating on it (for sound deadening) and installed a new rubber seal at the driver side door opening.

Question: Whats with the little electrical box and wires under the passenger seat? confused24.gif ... found a few of the terminal connections corroded away and wires are dangling dry.gif

Seat belt interlock relay IIRC. doesn't let the car start unless you have your seat belt safely fastened and all hands and arms are safely inside the vehicle at all times. Most have been bi-passed over the years.
