Doug, MrBubblehead

Doug wanted me to mention that he and I thought it would be important to recognize the ground post that could be utilized for the third brake light wiring in this instance without cutting into the stock harness. It is located in the engine compartment below the circuit board on the drivers side. Not necessarily easily accessible for all (Doug is running a dry-sump) but it would give you an opportunity to clean the grounds there and add a little dielectric grease while you are there adding the additional ground. Good PMCS (Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services. I give my military background away sometimes.)

Thanks for posting the details of your 3rd brake light as well as the routing. That is a huge safety feature! Especially when considering that all cars have a 3rd brake light as standard equipment. Younger drivers might not think that we are braking without it.

I am still on the fence as to how I want to proceed but a 3rd brake light is definitely in my cars future.

beerchug.gif Thanks again & safe driving! driving-girl.gif
Thanks for posting about that ground post. I forgot to mention it. mine is conveniently located under my oil sump. headbang.gif headbang.gif
I see your a believer in dielectric grease also. Thats one thing my car doesnt have are mysterious electrical issues. When I buy a keeper the first thing i do is go thru with a wire brush, contact cleaner, and a tube of dielectric grease and clean every electrical connection. It only takes a few hours to to the whole car. Time well spent in my opinion. I also solder and heat shrink every splice. I'll be damned if Im gonna leave my precious on the side of the road and walk. If I can help it anyways...

Finally put my "new" gas tank back together. Refinished everything (that was fun!). All new fasteners, new sender, deals, etc. Only thing left is to find the interior "fabric" nipple seals and we're ready to put it in the 914.
euro911
Yeah, I should have addressed the engine compartment grounds when the drive train was out headbang.gif ... it's a pain getting to that one dry.gif

I drove it, yesterday that is. We had a big rain storm that melted all the snow and cleared the roads of salt, so I took it for a good spin. Better than letting it sit.
Mr.242
Started mine. Short drive (5 miles). Put it away. No rain day in Seattle with 53 degrees was all I needed for a SIX FIX.

Oh...picked up my daughter, so she was surprised I pulled up in the SIX. Made her day too.
euro911
Nice that your daughter likes your car. One member here picked up his daughter from school in his rather nice '6' conversion, and she told him she was embarrassed - because it was an 'old car' blink.gif

I woulda slap.gif her silly

Put in new carpet set, tried to get bolts off rear shocks but can't seem to find right sized wrench. Back and forth to Sears twice and still haven't found the right one.

Drove it to work 3 days in a row!!!!!
Michael N
Drove mine to work today. Met a guy at Mc Donald's who was waiting for me to come out after breakfast. He told me that he is a second owner of a original /6 in black. He lives close to my work an will bring it by in the next several weeks to show me. He was wearing a 356 club hat and also has a speedster. I will post pics we he stops by my work.

Spent the evening making a start on a new air box
Have to make the trumpets tomorrow when I've worked out how to use my new roller correctly

euro911
Are you going to build a single intake filter housing?
edwin
At this stage I'm going with 2 like the 356 or 912
Standard chrome filter cage and filters under these so as simple as undoing the wingnut and slide the cover off
Want it to be water proof more than anything but also a bit quieter for long trips
euro911
Definitely don't want to 'rain' on your parade, looks cool and you've got the talent to build the covers, just wondering if you've you looked at CB Performance's enclosed top covers? (in their 'turbo' section)

I'm thinking your covers must be larger to accommodate filters inside? ... not sure if CB's covers allow for that or not confused24.gif

Started Install of a Boxster S six speed Transaxle in my LS1/914.
Got one side of the mounting done before I had to go back to work. It looks like I can use 930 cv joints with a standard length 911 axle.

Bob
edwin
No probs there euro
I've seen the cb covers and I don't think you can use a filter inside those hats
I've been wanting to have a play with making these for a while. It's a good excuse to pull out the tig again and brush up on my skills there
Also shipping to this side of the world is stupid

made it into a 914 RS lol-2.gif

I picked up new seals for my Boxster tranny from Parts Heaven.

BTW, did you know that Parts Heaven sells parts to AA? I saw the invoice today and got a good laugh. Maybe you guys should call PH before you call AA?

Drilled out the nut plates that hold the rear deck lid in place. Put some new bolts in there and tacked them in thread side down. My deck lids are notched, so I can loosen the nuts on the underside, and slide the deck lid out very easily now. Don't know why I didn't think of this sooner!

I can add some pics this weekend.

Watched Joe (KaptKaos) drill out the nut plates that hold the rear deck lid in place and put some new bolts in there and tacked them in thread side down. laugh.gif

Jeremy and I cleaned up some 912 engine tin and heater parts (I hot-tanked them and Jeremy bead blasted them).

Received some packages containing 914 parts and tools from a few different members here aktion035.gif

Finished some basic air boxes for the throttle bodies yesterday
Was goin to have a snorkel type opening as the 356 and 912 did but went for a test drive as they are now and they sounded fantastic
Have no induction noise at cruise and similar to open when the throttle is planted
Planned these as more of a rain shield than anything as we can get sudden storms that I didn't want to have filters in the open for
Simple to remove as its just the wingnut and they slide off leaving the standard filters in place

Please excuse the sideways photo. Am without a computer for a while and these are straight off the phone

I cut and shaped the gaskets for the windscreens.

R and R front trunk seal after cleaning out old gunk, treating rust, and repainting. Got the seal from Stoddard and it fit like a glove, and with a bright light in the trunk, in the dark, no light escapes - finally water tight.

Also placed a Dry-Z-Aire thing in the cabin to remove moisture to keep it from smelling like the old funky car that it is.

Cut some foam for the windscreens. The mounting screws will hold them in place and they will stop vibration.

Put mine on jackstands again and disconnected everything. Plan on dropping the engine next weekend. Then need to do a top end rebuild.
edwin
Sump gaskets arrived which meant that the sump extension kit I got from jonesy went on
Fitted easy on my test engine but the oil pickup on the one in the car was really tight. Ran a 12mm drill through the bottom of the oil screen to clear the mounting bolt

I hot tanked and blasted some 912 engine tins and the doghouse. The weather is supposed to be nice and hot for the next few days, hoping to prime and possibly paint the stuff in that time frame.

914 content: Stocked the shelves with some parts that were delivered during the past week.
Dasnowman

Stripped the rest of the under coating off the bottom and did a few other things to hopefully to get it finally to get media blasted.

I like em Joe. They look real good. Did you paint them or powder coat them?
euro911
They look good on there, Joe thumb3d.gif ... a lot better than when they were mine laugh.gif

I missed AS class on Tuesday night ... did you sand blast and paint them?

I got one of the windscreens mounted today. Tough job but someone had to do it.
