Drove Betsy over to help install a motor in a friend's 914. Plan to driver her over again tomorrow to try and start his with the new motor. I also put in a smaller battery and then stuck 14.75 gallons of gas in her.
Black22
Decided to drive her to work at 5AM. Got on the on-ramp to the freeway and SNAP! Accelerator cable is toast! WTF.gif headbang.gif

Pulled to the side and sat there for a minute, then remembered some threads I read here a long time ago. Jumped out, pulled the remaining cable out of the tunnel and rigged it to the remainder still attached to the throttle body. Routed the cable around the oil filler and out of the grill above the relay board. Cable was long enough to reach into the cabin from the window. Drove to work in 42 degree weather on the freeway with the window down and a pair of needlenose pliers for an accelerator! piratenanner.gif dry.gif .

Going to install the spare cable before I take the trip home. biggrin.gif

You won't notice a difference, unless your originals are shot. They're about an 1/8" shorter in height than 914 OEMs, so they slightly tilt the drive train (a fraction of a degree). You'll need to elongate the mounting holes in so they'll align with the mounts.

I spoke with Allan (Headrage) this afternoon. He's going to try to make it down to Joe's jsharp.gif

WTH nice hell hole repair, eh? They used sheet metal screws to screw tin on, didn't cut rust out, doesn't look like they rust proofed it, no seam sealer then looks like they put duct tape over screws and some kind of filler then stray painted every thing..to be honest I think the repair looks worst then the rust would have.

Finally got the euro '74 to the house and started tearing into it. Looks good from a distance but floor is rotted, door panels are shot, lots of DAPO stuff. It has been idle for about 10 years so lots of water damage from leaks into the cabin.
There are still lots of good parts that I will use on my LE such as exhaust system, engine tin, front and rear deck lids, and other odds-n-ends.

Does anyone know if driving lights were installed from the factory on euro cars? Or are these aftermarket? There is not a factory fog light switch on the dash.

Yeah, it's a euro... no VIN on the A pillar, the side marker lights are actually installed about 1/2" too low, the holes to mount the bumper tits are in the wrong place, and it has a GB engine.

I really wanted to save it but one project is enough. If anyone is interested in the rolling chassis, let me know. The floor needs replaced but the HH and a few other areas have been patched in the past. Pictures upon request.

Those are the euro spec driving lights, H3, yes factory, you see GTs with them as well...worth some $$

I hoarded up a pair of those in the early 90s but haven't ever put them on because now they are so rare...

I began tearing down a spare 1.7 motor today. It was in rough shape but I found out it had high compression pistons... cool! I'm tearing into spare motor #2 tomorrow. smile.gif

Put the white car on jack stands last weekend, took the bumpers, valances, and rockers off for some paint and new bumper tops, and took the wheels off to get my new tires mounted.

Got the new tires on, today fixed an oil leak and tightened up a loose muffler bracket, then put it on the ground and went for a drive driving.gif
Love the new tires.....no more sliiiiiiiding around corners.

Progress! After pulling the car off the road over a year ago to fix a bad rear wheel bearing and massive oil leak, today I got the car off the jackstands, out into the driveway, and proceeded to power wash every thing in the rear of the car. The previous owner lived on rural property down a long dirt road. Mix that fine red clay dust with fresh oil and you have a petrified mess! I also decided to pull the trigger and go 5 lug (Eric Shea group buy). So back into the garage and back up on the stands. I'm excited again to be working on the car!

Went to Mikes (kg6dxn) Saturday, picked up a new cowl piece for the black car, picked up the seats Mike picked up for me from Geoff (strawman), for the yellow car. Thanks again Mike, and Geoff beerchug.gif

Then I got home and the muffler I bought on eBay was here. biggrin.gif
Picked up a new bursch for $109, sometimes you gotta love ebay.

So today I took the old rusty bursch off the white car and put the nice new one on.
What a difference, didn't realize just how bad the old one was.

Now back to work on the bumpers. smash.gif welder.gif headbang.gif smash.gif

In honor of our COTM winner (Al Garcia), I decided to spruce up my gauges with some LEDs. evilgrin.gif

I had no idea what the hell I was doing but it came out pretty damn nice...and bright as hell.

Rubbed some rubbing alcohol on the insides to clear any oils and grime then stuck the led strip right behind where the glass circles sit. Taped them in with heavy duty masking to let the adhesive set.

Plugged the light holes with vacuum plugs, grounded the LED off of each gauge ground and spliced the wire into the lighting wire. Not too shabby

I really should have sourced some glass circles instead of reused the scratched plastic crap I have, but thats an easy enough change later. As you can see on full bright the scratches reflect so bad its just a bright light...doesnt look as blinding bright in person though.
