Decided that the 914 that I've had in storage (outdoors) is not coming back and will be parted out.
Took off the SE front spoiler, the rear duck tail spoiler, the fiberglass rockers, and bumpers.
I then discovered (it's been in storage for a while) that it has factory sway bars...
I will have to get the front bar off another day, but brought all the other goodies home to refurbish for the 75' resto

I decided to let the pain begin:
Tar removal (luckily the rust is just decorative rather than serious)
This is the official launch to fixing ghetto previous owner wiring, and add the creature comforts that make these cars fun for a long road trip.
Sound deadening, heat insulation and fresh camel colored carpet to come.

This weekend I was able to replace all my brake lines soft and hard, bled the whole system. I also installed the 100 mm studs for my spacers . My next step is to move to the electrical items then, like testing lights and wipers. Getting closer. Hershey is around the corner.

Started it, wamred it up, turned it off. Then wished I had more time to fix the brakes.
Dumped half the res. of brake fluid on the floor of the carport for no apparent reason. Right off the master cylinder. Figure its the stupid hard lines from the res. They were a !@#!@ to get in.....or was it just me?
Revisiting the thread from the beginning, I saw your post and thought I'd share a similar experience.
I installed new calipers and a 19mm M/C in my '75 (the infamous Batmobile) back in early 2007. The drive train was removed in March of 2008. In the third quarter of 2011, we removed the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump and hoses, and during the process, we apparently disturbed the lines from the reservoir to the M/C. Further checking found that the inlet grommets on the M/C had deteriorated
Good thing we found the problem prior to putting the car back on the road.

Traced down an electrical fault that had left me stranded on my way home from school. Reverse lights harness was shorting out on the gearbox, and causing the no.9 fuse to pop. Took me three hours to get it figured out.. But I did..

Bumpers ... black or chrome?
All I accomplished today was some clean-up under the fuel tank area and installed some additional sound-deadening matting to the firewall. I came to the conclusion that the spray-on stuff wasn't going to cut the mustard.

From what I understand, its an asphalt-based material used in roofing applications. Bob from Appbiz provided me with enough to cover the firewall when I purchased a carpet kit from him. He said it was similar to Dyna Mat, but less expensive.
I'll be covering the 'mat' with the same material that the carpet kit is made from. I'm still searching for some aluminum channel that will attach to the firewall (just below the window ledge) that will secure the top of the carpet and give it a nice finished look
I can call Bob to see where he buys it from ...

Got it back on the road yesterday after replacing Starter, Ignition Switch and Voltage regulator. Broke the little tab inside the Steering wheel that the Horn wire plugs on to, so today I sodered a wire to the base plate and put a pull apart wire connector on the old and new wire, reassembled the steering wheel and BEEP BEEP. Gonna cuirse up to Sonic and get a Chilly Dog. 60 Degrees in Pa. Feb 1st who'd think it?.

that is always a magic moment too me. when you put the juice to a car that hasnt run in years and years. its like your bringing it back to life. i found a 58 european model beetle behind an old german womans house. it had 40k kilometers on it. hadnt run in 40 years. its cool seeing everything coming back to life.
