I spent all day trying to figure out why it was running rough and hunting at idle. Triple checked valve settings. New plugs, cap, rotor, wires. Used a laser temp thing to see that cyl's 3 and 4 were not firing. Pulled the plugs and verified spark. Pulled the fuel injectors and verified fuel although was not sure how much I should actually be getting. Ran through my mind 100 times why #3 and #4 would randomly stop working at the same time. Gave up hope and then came across a posting from Bruce Stone in 2007 stating that the grounds for FI 1&2 and 3&4 were tied together. Unplugged the grounds and plugged them back in and low and behold it ran perfectly. Reset the timing. Wondered aloud why i have been trying to fix this for three weeks and not driving the car. Thanked my lucky stars that it was an easy fix. Cleaned the grounds and put everything back together. Drove it to work in amazement at how something so small could make such a huge difference.
Thanks to Bruce for sharing some simple insight back in 2007 and thanks again for the pedal set I won at WCR in Lake Tahoe!

Yesterday I won the B Mod class at the Florida State Autocross Championship at Sebring. My fourth time winning my class.
I had all kinds of stupid problems; starter, battery, carb, trailer winch, and the mount for the monster wing cracked at the weld. Plus second gear seems to have moved from where it used to be. I hoping the cone screws are loose.

Finally got sick of the noisy Monza exhaust. Ordered new gaskets and nuts and dropped off the original muffler at Finishline Coating for ceramic thermal barrier coating in a raw steel finish.

Had to run out and grab some chemistry supplies, so I took the top off and cruised around the Walnut/Diamond Bar area.. stopped for a bite to eat, and drove into the sunset back to school. Not a bad evening at all

Began the prep of a "new to me" 1974 2.0L for regular driving. Changed oil and filter. Verified the cooling flaps open when warmed up. Still trying to figure out of it is running hot or not.
Next up:
1. Take some pics
2. Install new sending unit and vdo gauge
3. Change tranny oil
4. Install new vacuum lines
5. Figure out the rough idle after engine warms up.
Hoping to get it sorted this weekend otherwise I might as well

I got some critical parts taken in the theft; car is starting to become active again and not a "boat anchor". Got a DME and front bumper which will allow me to get it running and licensing in Oregon; more parts coming thanks to the 914world members. Will soon have enough to put it together and start upgrading for the objective of final painting.

I had auto shop class tonight, so I drove the old 'BB' again. Finally got access to a lift and found a loose cone screw at the shift console. Took the cup off, lubed it and reinstalled it, tightening the cone screw as tight as I dared to (didn't have any lock-tite handy, so I hope it holds)
Also checked the front cone screw ... I can report back that all was OK there. Added a little grease to the shaft there too.
While still on the lift, also adjusted the clutch pull and leveled the front suspension (was listing on the driver's side a tad, even without my fat ass in the seat).
Cleaned out cylinder # 2's idle jet AGAIN. Why is this one jet always clogging?
Put fresh air in all 4 tires before leaving and it ran a lot better on the way home. It sure is nice to have 1st. and reverse gears at my finger tips again

Well, I lost my nuts!
Seriously, no matter how organized I try to be, bagging and tagging, and boxing I still manage to lose nuts, bolts, brake stuff.
I learned today, a good place to find metal objects is on the speaker magnet.
Installing my brakes lines.

Finally bought 5 tires (Kumho's), mounted them on the chromies. Will be cleaning suspension pieces as I install. Should be back on the ground by Friday, for the first time in over 6 years!
Fuel tank and injection parts will need to be replaced but have everything to do so (all new, except for the replacement tank). Getting ready to order Tangerine lines and will have to farm out most everything since I'm getting older.

Had a local guy do it. Took him a couple of attempts to get it that good. It's not perfect but better than the cracked up pad it used to be. Said he never wanted to see one again
I know he could have done even better, but this was small potatoes and he didn't charge me much so......
The bottom dash came out great and it's a nice touch to have the stitching modernize the look. There's a couple of extra pics in my resto thread

What did they charge you to coat it? I had to drive up to Cedars Sinai Hospital in West LA yesterday. All the freeways were boogered up, so it was surface streets - up and back ... and a lot of shifting gears
Need to adjust the clutch cable a little more.
