Replaced a CV gasket
At which time several of the balls fell out blink.gif
So took the whole stinkin CV apart
Cleaned and re-assembled
Then replaced the circlip on the shaft. smash.gif

Which reminded me how much I despise CV's dry.gif

Then installed several of Erics brake lines. Here's my process for doing it.

Hold the lines up to the MC
Say to myself "there is no way these lines will fit" confused24.gif

Then think "Eric you sent me the wrong lines" headbang.gif

Mess around a little more until my old brain figures it out. idea.gif

Then finish off thinking "what a great product Eric sells, no way in hell I would
want to spend time bending these things !" lol-2.gif

Drove mine for about 45min just running around town. Good to get it out of the garage. Front drivers side tire has a slow leak. Which left me with a flat tire when I went to go. Pumped it up & drove it but will need to take it to the tire shop to see why the slow leak.

Wow, nice looking drive trains thumb3d.gif

914 stuff:
New Falken Ziex ZE-512 tires mounted and balanced on a set of powder-coated EMPIs. These are going on my wife's car (until I get her stock 'steeles' powder-coated) ... then they'll probably go on the 'BB' until my other (better) set of ATS Classics get refurbished (Al Reed ? ) smile.gif

Received new brake hoses from Bob 'bulitt' for her car (have almost everything for her restoration now), a German loop (tan) carpet set (for the 'BB') from Mark 'Mikey', and Mike Bellis sent me a bunch of those nifty split rivets, so hopefully they'll do the trick of holding the FG rockers on the 'BB' smile.gif

'67 Bug stuff:
Checked crank end play: .120" blink.gif ... uh, no wonder why the RMS was leaking.
Picked up an assortment of shims, a new o-ring and a RMS to correct that issue.

The PO literally threw this motor together and failed to install a lot of the required cooling tins too dry.gif ... Located and hot-tanked the needed tins and painted some of the visible stuff.

The MC reservoir was leaking where the lines connected - fixed that and readjusted the front bumper (while I was down there). It was pretty crooked.

Scrubbed and painted the wheels and threw the bling accessories back on laugh.gif

Other stuff:
Blasted and primed some rusty Honda Mini Trail wheels (we're also building up a few basket-case bikes that have been sitting around for the past 10 years).

1. Installed new spark plugs (had done new coil and Clewett wires a few weeks back).

2. Installed 9.5mm to 8mm SS adapter fuel line and installed new fuel lines from firewall to the SS lines that go up through engine bay (both supply and return). PO had re-used an old tapered hose that started to leak on me.

3. Rattled canned my headlight surrounds in Semi-gloss black (thanks to another member here for getting me a new right side surround that had been broken by a rock or something).

Plugs looked OK.
DRPHIL914
Installed new rotor , caliiper, brake line and e-brake cable, also new c.v. went no as well.

Two things going at once.
Track car finally got FG trunk painted and installed today. Installed new dash
(always good for a laugh) fixing broken wiper switch removable steering wheel and trunk.
Also started project that has been sitting for two years ..snowflake

Did you sell it or scrap it, Garold?

If scrapping, is the windshield trim good?

Did you grab the front fuel line grommet?

It is still on the trailer waiting for a day ABOVE 0 before I go to the scrap yard. I sold the grommet already and the chrome, if good I would have saved it.

Almost done with the oil cooler setup in my car.. Unfortunately I can only work on it a weekend at a time, so usually every Sunday I have to make it driveable then take it all back apart thursday night when I get back from school.

Anyways, made an exhaust duct for cooler finally, here's the mold made out of cardboard, covered in aluminum foil tape, then 3 coats of mold release wax, two coats of PVA, and another 2 coats of mold release wax. I'll have a picture of the final product when I head out to my car later today.

I did edited the video by deleting some seen to minimize video size for you tube requirements. And yes just for an 11 miles drive (18 mins) I did get several pulls into my lane without signals. Maybe they are not aware that a 914 is on the other lane. That's why when we drive our 914 we double our defensive driving habit.

Falken 195/65-15. The guy I got them from said they were on a 914 with wide tires, so I just assumed they'd be OK.

The Falkens were really inexpensive ($45. each, no tax and free shipping from AZ), so we'll see how they work out.

If too wide for the car, I can always sell them to a VW guy (or girl) on The Samba ... or throw some skinnier tires on them confused24.gif

Drove 15 miles one way to Greg's (racergreg) house to pick up few parts. Saw his new toy Cayman S. Really beautiful red body paint with beige interior.

Installed gold PORSCHE letters on my engine grill.

Fedex and USPS delivered my ordered turbo tie rod, various exhaust and muffler seal/gasket and some few bulbs.

Thanks Joe, but it's all good. I sold the polished EMPIs and tires that were on Dianne's car, gonna pack them up in the next day or so. I put two stock steelies with tires (that I got from Bruce) and Dianne's spare on her car tonight. I have one more wheel to change, so I'll just stick a spare Riviera with an old tire on there for now.

I have three of these white Rivs, so if someone has one just like this and wants to complete their set, let me know ... they'll be available in a short while idea.gif

I was hoping the PC'd EMPIs would work, but rather than pulling the tires off again, I'll just try to sell the tires and wheels to a VW guy confused24.gif

I'll eventually get the other set of ATS wheels down to Al Reed and on to her car after her paint is done.

Also, finished up the '67 bug motor tonight. Re-shimmed the crank, installed new rear main seal and all the cooling tin the PO never put back on. Next task: bleed the brakes and stick the motor back in. Would like to sell the bug before registration comes due in March popcorn[1].gif

This weekend I did some of the nastiest tasks on any 914: scraping floor tar and painting interior details. I also refitted and painted my fiberglass front spoilers for the track. Boy am I sore - I think I cracked or bruised a rib! Not to mention the paint fumes and fiberglass dust all day (of course I had a good mask and air circ.)

Public Service Announcement: When doing a racecar, do as much as possible BEFORE installing the rollcage, race seats, and harnesses! Obviously I could take out the seats etc. but that's extra hassle. The cage is welded with door X-beams...

Just posting mine so my teen can say hi to another teen with riv wheels. Nice view along the beach. I remember when I'm still in college and drove my dad's classic Benz on the same distance to the seashore, the rear tires got stock half of the wheels after a few waves dig a hole under the tires.

Went back to the shop, pulled the 1 remaining EMPI wheel off of Dianne's car and packed the set up for shipping off to Maryland (2 boxes, 63 # each) blink.gif

Then turned my attention to the Bug again. It looks like the PO installed a new M/C and the right rear wheel cylinder, but they don't work well without pumping the pedal, so I started bleeding the brakes. Got the rears all done, but can't get the fronts to grab mad.gif ... I'll try bleeding at the M/C and see if that fixes the problem idea.gif
