Maybe multi colors, but the rear trunk lid was rusted...the red one isn't, the passengers door glass didn't work......the red one does. The drivers door glass doesn't work either but I didn't have another door, so I'll have to fix this one...thats why it's not back on yet. But at least its somewhat driveable again, and the lift is free for the white car tomorrow.

Yesterday got both doors fixed and back on the orange car, the shift rod was rubbing on something in the tunnel, thought it was the clutch tube I installed, turned out to be to long a bolt on the drivers seatbelt, fixed that and put the front bumper on. Now just an alignment. driving.gif then I'll probably sell it. White cars already back from McMark....now just install the -6 and hook everything up.

Today need to move the orange car to the garage and clean up the shop to make room for the 73 914 with steel flares that's coming today....oops.

Finished installing new front shocks, balljoints, turbo tie rods, elephant rubber bushings, stock front sway bar, rear shocks and 100lb springs. Fixed the loose breather fittings on the air cleaners, and cleaned her up. Tanking her to the shop on Wed for a 4-wheel alignment then she'll be ready for Route 66 Albuquerque trip in 2 weeks.

I didn't have the ball joint nut tool but a brass drift and hammer worked just fine. I completely removed the A arms since I was doing bushings as well, that made the ball joint replacement easier in a vise. If you're installing turbo tie rods, I found it much easier to remove the tie rod end and slide the boot on the rod before installing. Much easier to fit the boot once the tie rod is in place because you don't have to force the small end of the boot over the large nut at the steering rack.

It took me a day for disassembly, day to clean, paint, and install new bushings and ball joints, and a 1/2 day to reassemble. I also did the shocks and installed a factory front sway bar. Good luck

Well, still working on my OT project (the Westy). Looks like my Mercedes CLK wheel deal has gone sour, so I took off the cheezy hub caps (that were on it when I purchased it), scrubbed the stock 14" steelies real good and painted them.

I was going to leave the hub caps off, but the Mrs said she liked them. I was missing one, they were 4-lug and cracked at the centers anyway, so I bought a new set of 5-luggers at Pep Boys. I had to drill out the centers on the fronts with a hole saw so the bearing grease caps wouldn't crack them at the centers.

It'll have to do until I get my dream wheels. I guess they don't look too bad ... confused24.gif

Since I was in a spraying mood, and the weather was hot, I painted the exhaust system with some black high-heat BBQ paint shades.gif

I drained the engine oil and refilled it with Castrol 20/50. The rear main seal isn't leaking as bad as it was ... just a small drop now, not a puddle like before. I plan to pull the engine and reseal everything down the road, just happy that I don't have to do it right now - got a week-long camping trip planned a week from now biggrin.gif

When I get back, I promise to work on the 'BB'. Still need to do some cosmetic things (install the rocker panels and repaint the side grilles), and a suspension re-bush and turbo tie-rod installation aktion035.gif
JRust
Changed my oil. Had to go old school with my floor jack & stands. Have my 75 I am stripping on the lift dry.gif . Need to get that sucker out of the way. It no longer has a suspension so I need to figure a good way to transfer it to my trailer. It's hell hole is absolutely horrible. It does have good panels & a perfect front trunk. Well the whole front clip is good. Not sure I'll bother doing a full cut up on it. We'll see idea.gif

This has been bugging me for a long time. Always thought they never finished the frunk.

I'll probably do another set with a little better materials now since I have the templates.

Yes, I am. Another couple of weeks preparing the body and thinking what I want done... then off to body shop to fix the problems. And lastly, back to restoring/refinishing individual parts.

Since 10 years have passed, I was worried that I forgot so much about how everything went together.

Several things have become apparent.

1) I did a good job bagging and labeling the parts.
2) In the past 10 years with the advent of cell phones with cameras, 914world has become completely full of a lot more photos and documentation of other projects so that even if I forget something, it will be easy to research and figure out.
3) Shop manuals and PetCD will come in handy once again.
4) Parts that were once NLA are now available from Porsche or are being lovingly reproduced by fellow members
5) I forgot I had a lot of stuff. For example, I went on a 2-day quest to find a source for the damn little metal grommets used on 914-6-GTs where the leather straps go through the door panel. In reinventory-ing my parts stash, I found a pair I had apparently purchased a while back and forgot about! headbang.gif
6) I could not find the brand new door outer handles and keys I purchased. I know I purchased them from Patrick Motorsports a couple of years ago. I called them. Their records show that I requested a quote, but never actually followed through and ordered them. Conclusion: I wasted 2-3 hours tearing apart my garage for parts I never actually had!
7) And most importantly... this is still the most popular smilie on 914world... piratenanner.gif
