Installed SS HE and temporary installed this ansa/monza 4 tip muffler while waiting on the other muffler that I bought from our fellow member.
I think there is a better change on the power after removing the after market muffler (local muffler shop) and replacing 1975 Heat exchanger to early Heat exchanger and using a 4 tip muffler.

Checked my crank end play and ordered some shims, I used the feeler gauge method for now.
after my shims get here I think I'll get a dial indicator and check it a couple more times before I bolt it down permanent.

Okay I received this muffler this morning came from our member here, any idea can you share member(s) how will be the sound and performance compare to
Ansa/monza 4 tip? So far since I installed the 4 tip muffler the other day, I think it improved the power after replacing 75 HE to early HE and after removing after market muffler.
Please share if you have/had experienced with this muffler I got today.
Thanks in advance!

After I temporarily installed the 4 tips muffler, other drivers are looking at me and now I know they can hear someone is around. Chrome tip is around 2 1/4" diameter so it maybe loud specially the muffler is not a silencer type. But I hope it will not annoy my quiet neighbors. I just asked one of my neighbor yesterday if the 4 tips Ansa/monza muffler is not to loud for them and they said NO!

Thanks, first job for it is to install the -6 in the white car....should be my easiest engine install yet.....I'm OK with that.
Cleaned a bunch of parts today, dropped off the rims for the "driver" today....new tires tomorrow
picked up my -6 valve covers from the machine shop, all clearances and surfaced, almost ready to put the -6 together.

I pulled the gear stack out of my track car for the doc to regear and refresh where necessary. Normally I'd tackle a job like this myself, but with baby number two on the way in just a few months I don't see much free time in my future.

I played with some plasti-dip.
My ATEV wheels are now flat grey. No more chrome. I was surprised how easy it was to peel off the tire. In fact, the more over spray you have, the easier it is to peel. No masking at all.

plasti-dip is great...if there isn't enough overspray to peel, I found that goo-gone or some other alcohol based remover works great

Got the new tires on the driver, while I had it on the lift thought I'd check to see any obvious causes for the high speed wobble, was also going to check the passengers rear shock, that side was riding lower. Grabbed the passengers rear tire to check bearing play.....moved all over the place, guess I found the problem. Thought at first it was an oblong trailing arm mount hole, but when I got it apart what was left of the bushing fell out in pieces...that's an easier fix
I always wonder why people stop driving these cars......then I start working on them......oh...that's why.

Got my replacement caliper from pmb , I had brand new ones that I broke off the bleeder and was unsuccessful in extracting . Now I can get ready to blead. But next up is the installation of new front A-arms and bushings from Bruce Stone to go with my new front turbo tie rods and calipers rotors brake lines and M.C. all from PMB. This could complete the job and make her road worthy!

Wheeled the car out in the sun and started grinding away sloppy welds. Mostly on the chassis reinforcements. Just cleaning up the edges and leaving the rosettes.
Then I located the holes for the oil lines through the driver's longitudinal.
Also, I removed the grommet in the front where the fuel lines go through, so I can enlarge the holes for Tangerine's fuel lines!

No P-car work at all this week (except for taking delivery of some resto parts). Still bustin' my a$$ getting the Westy ready to go camping in the middle of Cuddeback Dry Lake on Wednesday.
Spent a few hours constructing a fake RV hook-up pole to amuse and confuse my fellow campers
It's powered from a 120V inverter in the Westy, has a night light and a small pond pump buried in the bottom of the bucket

Decided to take a break from studying on Friday to become a hooligan for a day.. so I installed these again.
I forgot how loud they were..
the exhaust volume attracted the attention of an STI on a twisty road.. It's always fun to see them try to keep up on tight corners
Oh, and I reinstalled the stock banana muffler that evening.. I don't even know what I'd tell a LEO if he pulled me over for running these.

When I was a 914-kid
I ran a stinger tip... took off from a light headed out of town into a wooded area. Hard
Loved to hear the exhaust echo through the trees.
pulled me over FOUR DAYS LATER. Asked about that particular episode and then said, "You need to put a muffler on this thing."

Adjusted the valves.
Ended up replacing one of the #1 rocker shaft mounting studs after finding it was stripped.
Got everything back together and took for a test drive
After just a few minutes, ticking got louder and louder
Turned around, coasted downhill with engine off when I could, parked and let it cool.
Pulled passenger side valve cover to find #4 rocker assembly nuts off the studs and (thankfully) in the valve cover. Not sure what happened though I did have that assembly off so must not have tightened those nuts down properly
Anyway, now back together and running fine

Spring time! Took the afternoon off to find some curvy hills to climb. Found what I was looking for nearby at Bald Peak. I've been in Portland eight years now and I still find ridiculous winding mountain roads to run practically in my backyard.

Getting ready to head out to the garage and do a ton of little things:
- finish shift rod bushing replacement
- seal up selector rod and replace o-ring
- seal up speedo angle drive
- adjust valves
- set timing and dwell
- replace plugs and wires
- check for vacuum leaks
- if I'm diligent and lucky, go for a lovely SoCal evening drive
Tomorrow I plan to replace front wheel bearings and of course, more driving.
My 914 is new to me. Just acquired it from a guy who owned it for 30 years. I got a decent deal on it as it needs lots of little stuff. I have been doing that as time allows. I finally have a totally free weekend and plan to finish dialing in my 'teener!!
Great site and community. Happy to be a part of it. Off to the garage!
