Nothing to the 914 today....too hot in the shop, 102 today, but I did do something for it...bought an air conditioner/heat unit for the shop. Installing it tomorrow morning, while it's cool.
euro911
HA - I know what you mean Jeff. It was only 90 something here, but hot enough for me. I rigged up a little 5K AC unit under the roll-up door and used plywood and cardboard to block off the sides. It actually did help a little bit, but it was still hotter than I'd like. beer3.gif … I'll wait till summer ends and buy a bigger unit when they go on sale idea.gif

I replaced the antiquated security alarm panel at the shop and added a long-range wireless paging transmitter. When the pager activates, I can look at the CCTV monitor to see what's going on there shades.gif … My friend Fred is going to bring me some additional motion detectors next week so we can cover more areas of the shop aktion035.gif

Went to start the 'BB', but the battery was dead dry.gif
JStroud
I was thinking the same thing Mark, but then I thought about Craigslist, found a 14k unit with heat under a year old, 20 min from my house, (if you been to my house you know there's not much within 20 min).....for $100 w00t.gif couldn't pass up that deal.
Now I'm set for summer and winter.....no more excuses shades.gif

Gas-fired unit? $100., nice score thumb3d.gif

No it's a thru wall 220 electric unit, I've got a 75k propane shop heater, but now with this having heat too, who knows when I'll install it, might leave it installed in the garage. Got it installed and power run. I ran it for about an hour, definitely a big improvement, I think a couple of properly placed fans will help with circulation. Now maybe I can start getting things done, still need to finish the ring job on the tractor, then get the 2.7 tore down and in the machine shop.

I had a busy weekend, but in a good way!

Started the weekend with a great drive home...

Turned the trunk in to a toy box in the morning...

Then drove it to my favorite parking spot.

Then Removed the radio and mounted an ipod direct to speakers amp under the dash, so I could make room for a Stopwatch dash mount in its place. Manage to find a same year (1970) Chronograph Heuer Track Stopwatch...

Hey, I did something on my 914 last weekend! Shocking I know. blink.gif

It's OK though, I didn't break anything. I just put spacers on the front. Oh, and cleaned/replaced spark plugs. One of the old ones broke - I got most of it, but figured the rest would just come out the tailpipe. Eventually.

Oh relax, I'm kidding!
Now you need to install that nice gold VW emblem on the rear deck shades.gif

Yeah, thanks Mark! That will go on this weekend - having the glass guy show up to replace the windshield on the FJ this Friday, so when he's done I'll have my garage back and plan to install the bling! shades.gif

It stopped running after a 2-hour drive home from Porsche to Ohio. At least it got me to about 5 miles from home. Towed it to the shop (Autobahn Garage in Findlay OH). Turns out it was the coil that failed. Should have a new one in tomorrow.

Finally back home after two weeks in Vegas working. Took the 914 out to run my son to the auto parts store. Fired right up cheer.gif I figured the battery would be weak if not dead.

Then, at the parts store... wouldn't crank dry.gif Usual issue so bump start and off we go.

Today I put on a new passenger side turn signal lens (thanks Rhodyguy, perfect!).

Then, clay-barred the entire car, head to toe and waxed it with carnauba paste wax.

Then, went for a drive along the beach.

Put on your sunglasses and behold! smile.gif

Drove to work. driving.gif Third time this week as the DC summer has been kind and gentle this year. I got to work early and found my normal spot at the far end of the parking lot. Later this morning I was amused by who decided to be "friendly" with me:

I'm not sure they know the real reason I park there: in case my starter doesn't want to work I can simply drift straight down the little hill its on for an easy bump start. Maybe they are there for the same reason I am laugh.gif

piratenanner.gif driving.gif after having smash.gif welder.gif , saw the bill and w00t.gif blink.gif icon8.gif but really after 2 weeks at the shop and lots of stuff tidied up got to drive it home!
-brakes finally bled and rear venting clearance set properly;
-they installed my new a-arms, tie rods and ball joints, also full alignment front and back
-new shift linkage bushings including the ones in center tunnel and shifter
-valves set and timing( mark was gone so i could not get this done - new mark at tdc)
now for some fine tuning of the A/f and should be good to go!!

HalfMoon
Finally got my wipers working again. I tried the 924 switch mod (CIP1) and that was a catostrophe. Rebuilt my stock switch. Easier than I thought, but now I have a highbeam out and my flashers stopped working.
Life of a 914. Fix one thing, two more things go wrong. Biggest piece of shit I've ever owned. Can't wait for the day I get rid of it.
If I knew then what I know now, I would have just bought a tub and started from that. Most if not ALL the work I've had to do is crap from my PO. Should have bought local so I could have known all the issues up front. Buying from afar is a for sure lies and deciet.
Think I'll let my car rot in the garage for a few weeks and go do something productive with my life.
Venting done.

I made a quick pit stop into the shop on Friday to grab up a pair of 5-lug rear rotors that will be going to New Joisy.

I'll be at the shop again Saturday afternoon, but there's some infrastructure work to do there - so not much car work will get done, if any at all dry.gif

Well if she is unhappy, just let her know that there are a lot of guys that would love it if they had someone to share their car interest with. Besides you know she is all in if she will work under the dash like that!

Finished up the front sway bar install. It really is not that difficult, and the tutorial on PP makes no sense as far as getting the bar into the bushings. Pushing it thru after installing the outer flange? Please, no measure of lube (even combined with some sweet talkin') is gonna make this easy. Simply place the new bushings on the bar (they come split already) now in its position, and using some previously procured bolts of the same thread, but an inch longer, tighten the outer flange up against the wheel well. The bushing will work right in. Then remove the longer bolts and use the originals.

Tomorrow, gonna start the rear...
