I've always been bothered about my driver-side headlight flopping around and making a scraping noise when going up and down, so I took the assembly apart.
There was an abnormal gap in between the inner and outer pivots and rotating support bar. A PO kluged together this nifty home-made outer pivot instead of obtaining an OEM part.
Click to view attachmentNow, while I truly appreciate one's resourcefulness, this was clearly not an acceptable fix
... The correct pivot has since been installed.
Click to view attachmentTook the passenger-side assembly apart as well. Cleaned up, painted the inside headlight wells, and before reassembling everything, sanded and painted the headlight surrounds with a textured paint, as they
were looking pretty shabby.

On the way back from shopping in York Pa. I took a side trip to find out where TRANSLOG (www.transloggt.com) is at in York and found them. They were working today so I met Tony Miller and he gave me a tour of the shop. Now I'm set up with a good Porsche Independent Shop and will be taking my teener to them to inspect and advise what they think it might need to have done. Right now it's running and handling great but never having owned one until I bought mine in September I'd like to know if it's needing anything. When we were leaving Tony asked if I would like to come to a Tech Session on 914's that they are having there next Saturday morning.....Hell yeh! So looking forward tofurther my education about the 914's.

LSD clutch inspection since I was in there anyway. Matt at Guard told me the specs and after 1.5 years on the road and all is well. Finding out I don't need to rebuild the clutch-pak is just plain fine with me.

Pulled off the passenger side rocker cover for the first time in the year that I've owned it. ( Mostly because I was afraid to know) I was pleasantly suprised by the lack of rust or rot. sanded and cut a small bit of rot out then welded in a patch then added some paint. Added a light refresher coat to the cover and will put it work on the other side next chance I get. Will probably use screws instead of rivets to reinstall because I want easy access to clean and inspect. I know there is and was rust here but the po has creatively hidden most of it well and that's fine by me for the up coming season. Still need to freshen up the dash with a new head unit and speaker pods. New carpet (black) refinish my non sunroof top, finally get the turbo cup wheels mounted once the custom adaptors come in. Get some spare parts like the extra set of weber 40 idfs sold sell off the never used empi 8 spokes with new tires plus a few extras. grrrr so much to still do with little time and little extra money at the moment.

I haven't chimed in here for a long time till today on another post asking about installing the 911 SC hubs, brakes and shocks so this seems like a good thread to say hello. I had a little "off road" experience with my car last summer so it's been sitting as pictured for the last 8 months or so. First accident I ever had in that car in the 19 years I've owned it.
Seemed like not only a good time to repair the damage but to do some upgrades and maint. while it's apart. So today I spent a couple of hours grinding out all the fractures and stress cracks in the fiberglass and gellcoat with a Dremel. The Sheridan body shattered into 4 pieces and broke in a couple more. I pieced it all back together with epoxy and once all in place started laying new glass on the backside so I could resurface the front. It's going back together pretty well all things considered. hope to have it all back together and down to the shop for paint this Spring.

what did you do to your 914 today
Drove to the OC in Sonoma to install my Boxster calipers only to find out that my rear rotors are too wide.
Well, looks like that some creative machining of the rear calipers and slightly shaved brake pads might do the trick. Oh well ...
On the upside, i got to drive my 914!

Spent 4 hours undoing my brave but misguided attempt to stop a window rattle, by unwillingly learning to completely disassemble the window assembly and pull the window. I removed the window felt I installed in the front track, which dislocated the narrow track the window rides in. But I didn't know that at first,or second. So finally discovered the track sitting at the bottom, reseated it and bam, it worked. Next had to clean the glue and gunk out of main window track. Up and down takes a bit more effort but the window is where it is supposed to be and seats well against the car. And the unexpected surprise, the rattle is gone. Hope lithium grease was the correct lube because it will be a long time until I tear into it again. Was amazed that the window merely press fits into the sliding track, thought it needed to be glued or something.

Got my gearstack back from Dr. Evil and reassembled my trans. Degreased case, replaced all seals, painted it and made it look purdy! I used a very light coat of hi-temp aluminum paint. Just enough to change the color.
Next up, finish putting the engine together. Already a long block, just need the fuel injection and tins repainted and installed.

Drove it to work today, - yesterday put in a new rear window/engine deck seal- old one came out in a thousand pieces.
- blew a fuse today not sure why? #8/9 lost the tach, fuel level, cigarette lighter, console volt meter and oil temp. so what i dont know until i can troubl shoot this at lunch is whether there is a short or loss of ground connection that caused the fuse to blow or just a fuse issue---
fun fun fun.

Retrieved my motor yesterday. Started mocking up parts. next step, transmission and engine cradle.
Engine: Subaru Japanese spec 2.5L sequential turbo with 300hp and 300ft lbs of torque from the factory. I will probably go with a single turbo to get the car on the road.
From the car side, got my front hood fitted, now I have to get the headlights in and finish fitting them.
On the rear deck i have to finish up the duck tail and get everything welded into place.
Take the doors to get welded and then media blasted. then back to my house for primer.
Shoot the two lizard skin components in the cabin and firewall.
iron out a few wrinkles and re primer, cut and sand then ready for paint.
