More done on the '73 restoration- checking 12V power to starter- all ok and engine turned over and made oil pressure for the first time in over 3 years! Installing relays in the headlight wiring for stronger H4 lamps- power to the high beam circuits... and fog lights work. SLOWLY coming back to life.
Only issue this weekend- stripped exhaust stud needs to be replaced- wish I'd found that when rebuilding engine
Driver side header went on fine- a little "delay" on the pass side...
Hope to have it running by the fall!

Had the paint color matched with a digital camera and a spray bomb can made for $25.00. The match is very close. Touched up and blended a black spot on the door. I am happy with the results... a five foot fake out for a driver not bad.... finally buffed the rest of the car and it looks great for a 25 year old repaint.

Installed a long overdue catch can from the oil tank. Previously, there was just a little filter on the vent connection which would end up dripping oil all over the inside of the engine compartment after a drive. Been driving me crazy for years....
Now I can clean up the engine compartment for good!

Put some bling on the car (imperfectly since I was impatient - ah well, I learn … slowly). Added some bling to the garage - one thing on the car, three things on the garage walls. Those who've been to my house (Joe O'Brien's old place) might notice the two new-old things on the wall, and the one truly new thing. EDIT: well I guess there are only three things total on the walls in this pic, so what the hell … give-away. Who cares, it's bling.

Yeah thanks Mark! It's a great piece I'm very happy with it! B) If one were to look closely there are a few imperfections due to my amateurish install skills but eh... Adds character. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Check with Joe to see if shortening them will affect your jetting? Probably won't make much difference if you don't cut them too short.

I have digital fuel injection, so I don't think the exhaust pipes off the muffler make a difference - maybe in sound, but with those ITBs I'm already used to intake sound at WOT drowning out all conscious thought.
The exhaust pipes just stick out too far and I'm getting tired of banging into them with my shins (part of the reason) and they look a little odd (most of the reason).

Today I started fixing the surface rust in the trunk. Sanded it down, then treated the bare metal with a rust conversion coating just to add a layer of protection. Now I need to wait 3 days before I can prime and paint.
Also, painted the seat adjustment handles. Some of the black paint was chipped.
Then, drove down the coast for a couple hours.

Took my '73 out to Rocky Neck Park to test out the Weber's that were worked on... no white smoke, car ran really well once east of New Haven and out of traffic. Not painted yet... way behind schedule in that department. Forgot to take a photo when out there... oh well.... finally getting some mileage in.. 130 RT.
Oh yeah, car is much smoother when frozen struts are replaced with ones that move up and down..... much more comfortable....

Well, I left some HAM radio equipment on in the Tundra for a couple of days and drained the battery. So, the new battery I bought for the 'BB' got redirected (since it my wife's grocery getter)
Gonna see if the Tundra battery can be 'saved' (it's been on a really smart charger for a day now) or if
it needs to be replaced with a new one as well
Hoping It takes a good charge so I can swap the new battery into the 'BB this w/e
Then I'll clean all the dust off and maybe drive it up to see a friend at Big Bear Lake

Finished installing the new battery tray in my white car.
Boxed up the rear calipers so they can be sent off to PMB.
Engine is on the work table for a oil pump reseal
Added new Magnecor plug wires.
Started rehoseing the engine fuel injection when I found one of my NEW (less than 4 years old) fuel injectors had a memory crack in the attached hose. So off all 4 came.
I had them rebuilt thru GB Manufacturing 4 years ago. They perform great. But once the engine goes back in they'll be forgotten.
So I'm going to send an order to Chris at Tangerine Racing for a new set.
We also did some research on the plumbing of the fuel pump to a new 2 port. I really like the way some folks have it in the front spare tire wheel well. Gas tank is out and on the other table.
All in all, a good day. Drove the 911 home so I can AX this weekend.

It' been long overdue; the speedo under reads actual speed by enough to get pulled over and warned. Packed up the speedo and sent to North Hollywood speedometer. After the speedo is out I marked off 1/100th mile on our street, that's like 52 feet and 9 /2 in
Then roll the car through the measured dist and count the number of revolutions the speedo cable makes; mine is 8.

Kathy and I drove them to Werks Reunion. Great day overall. Kathy fried her alternator on the way home but only a mile or so from the house. That could have been much worse as we were way out in Carmel Valley attempting to find the quickest route home as traffic was tight after the event. It sure would have sucked to break down 75 miles away from home. Great to see every one from 914world as well.

Click to view attachment So my day just got a whole lot better. I thought that I had an issue with Kathy's alternator as her car died close to home when returning from the Werks Reunion yesterday. We left the event at 4:30 and didn't get back until into San Jose until 7pm. Kathy's car died coming off the freeway and would not start back up. The starter would not even kick. I pushed her car to the side of the road. Thinking it was a hot start issue I pushed her and she started the car. It kept wanting to stall out and voltage was low. I drove it home keeping the revs up to keep it from stalling out. The volts kept dropping and the car started to putter and back fire as I pulled it into the garage at my house. The battery was dead. I charged the battery overnight.
Assuming that the alternator was toast I started using the boards search function on changing the alternator. I even started pricing new Bosch alternators etc. One of the threads from the search said to also check the voltage regulator as it is cheaper and could also fail. Here is where the story gets much better.....The voltage regulator was not seated in it's socket all the way as only one of the two screws were in place and it was tilted backwards. I must have knocked it loose when wiping down the engine bay prior to Monterey. I pushed it in all the way and tested the charging system with a volt meter. All is good! I will buy and install the second small screw to hold in the voltage regulator today. I then will buy a lottery ticket as I am feeling lucky.

I got a second Heuer stopwatch for the Dual dash set up. So now these are mounted where the radio was, and now I just have a hidden amp that goes form my iPod/ iPhone directly to the new speakers. So I finally get to listen to some music when I drive!
I also had some damage to my front valance which was a piece of crap anyways, so I pulled the trigger on making a front splitter/spoiler air dam. I wanted the more vintage style one, so I am pretty happy with how it turned out. it does not hang much lower then the valence itself since its a road car.
