Brought the '75 out of the body shop and into the light!!
All set to go to Calf Pasture Beach car night to show it off, and the alternator light was glowing..... So I didn't go.
I disconnected the battery for the night and will run it over to Tony's Auto Service in the afternoon...
Well, I will try to get it over to Dragone's for their Friday Night get together and see how it is received there....

Passed by the 'BB' several times in the past couple of days, and wondering when I'm gonna get to drive it again
Had a friend come by and help dig up a bevy of large magnolia tree roots and installing a sprinkler system in our front yard. Tough work in the blistering sun, so we're taking a break and will continue with constructing the distribution manifold and installing valves on Monday. I 'might' try to take a little drive on Saturday if feeling up to it

I like it, but one could argue that I am biased.
After 9 years my Optima 34R has taken a death dive & I had to order a new one
Can't really complain because 9 years is a good long life for any battery. Still, no wet cell in this car as long as I'm alive. The time for getting the car ready for Okteenerfest is now.

Thanks to Jim Hoyland's rapid shipping, I got my dash project done a day or two early.
Defrost vents filled and dash recovered. Fresh air controls filled on dash face. Now I just need a windshield....
That dash top looks sweet! How do I go about finding one for my car? I'm on the other side of town in Northern Peoria and would like to do this mod while my windshield is out as well. Would like to know more about this option.

Well, it wasn't today actually. It was last weekend. A friend was visiting from Colorado and we took the 914 down to Cars and Coffee in Tigard (tie-gurd), Oregon. It was a pretty good turnout. Lots of other Porsches, mostly of 911 ilk. A single mid-60's 912, and one other 914. It had a slant nose kit, wide fenders, wing, etc. Several of the steroid style late model 911 versions. I don't know what they call them anymore. Nine-Ninety somethings I am sure. There were four Volvo P1800's. More than I have seen in a single place in a long, long time.
Matt Hardigree was apparently there. He is a writer for Jalopnik.com and posted photos of quite a few cars. But not mine. Bastard. It rained after we had been there for forty-five minutes or so and many of the garage queens beat feet for home and soft buffing towels. Good show all around. Matt's photos can be found here:

Went through the carbs today, started from scratch, reset the dwell and timing, set the carbs to basic settings then synced them and adj the mixture till the popping went away.
Finally got it very drivable, went on a few short drives.
Driving to McMarks in the morning to let him fine tune it then should be good to go.
Felt good to drive my car again, been a few months.

Went to Supercar Sunday yesterday. Some dude with a VW bus t shirt on asked if I was selling my car.
Does anyone with a 914 (other than something rare) ever say No to this question?
So he asks me how much and I pull a number out of the air; upper atmosphere...13
He says "oh, no, more like 10"....really 10? I think I would be happy with 10. Is he low balling at 10?
So I looked a little put off and he gave me his card. Says give him first shot when I decide to sell. He needs to take a closer look at the rust spots and drive it.
hmmmm..........10k......I could buy.......?

Thought I had the carbs somewhat dialed in, started driving to Marks shop this morning, it started running crappy again. Ended up limping it back home, runs good at high RPM, but really stumbling at lower. Guess my RRC trip ain't going to happen, but with the time off I guess I'll get my 2.7 tore down and in the machine shop.

Got a new Optima 34R for my LE- $215 @ FLAPS or $168 shipped to my door. I think they're too expensive, weigh nearly 40 lbs., don't quite fit right unless you know how to fit them, but they are DRY. No chance for acid boil/spill over or rain mix damage with a dry cell.
Shaved the lips/edges on both sides of the battery using a single end/handle hack saw so it fits the tray perfectly & put it on a charger for 2hrs @ 6 volts high... nice steady, slow charge. I'll be pulling the battery for the winter & storing it inside- this past winter was a killer & I think my previous Optima might have froze, but I did get 8 yrs. out of it.
Now to adjust the valves & see about repacking my 1/2 shafts.
