Good decision, the wheels look really nice aktion035.gif

Well, almost finished up with the front yard project. May not look like it was a big job from the pic, but it took my friend (Mark) and I 5 full days de-rooting (hate magnolia tree roots) and installing a new sprinkler system. We filled 6 35-gallon trash barrels with roots and installed a 4-zone sprinkler system with 18 heads.

Got the other side taken apart today, seems all the pistons on this side were hitting the exhaust valves, no visible damage to the heads, but all three had small marks in the piston tops, also #6 has a broken ring, a chunk of piston missing and quite the gouge in the cylinder wall. Guess that's why it broke down at Parade. blowup.gif

Found most of the ring pieces, not sure where the chunk of piston went.
Can't wait to see what I find when I split the case.

Started a 10 day staycation yesterday.
So yesterday, I finished the hose plumbing on my new 2 port fuel pump relocation. And sprayed some RustOleum on my new battery tray.
Was about ready to drop in the gas tank when I decided to turn the outlet pipes on the tank 180 degrees. stripped one of the threads taking it off.

Black stuff in the hell hole is seam sealer. Decided to add some to that flange lip.
It got it painted later in the afternoon.

Today I'll will be running new fuel pump wires in the tunnel from the back. PO had them under the car in a fuel hose. Been that way for ten years. Time to get it done right.
Plus finish up prepping the 911 for tomorrows PCA AX at PIR in PDX. Just finishing up installing a Seines Shift Kit on it. That is a pretty cool gadget.

Got my '73 restoration project running this afternoon for the first time during reassembly. Moved under its own power for the first time in 4 years!! Gotta get the rear suspension to settle some now...

BTW, I've got my old Simplex Challenger go-kart (which I got in 1961!) and recently found a rebuilt West Bend 580 just like it had way back when. Gonna restore the kart someday as well!!

On staycation. Finally getting to play with my cars.
Stopped at the dealership to pickup a couple shift knob crush sleeves. Ran into Mark (914 Rubber). Had a good chat.

1st. I rehosed the fuel lines on the engine. Installed Chris's FI elbows. They are a thing of beauty. Hose to the regulator might be a tad short.

2nd. Rewiring the fuel pump. Built a taped up 2 wire cable to feed thru the tunnel.

That's were I'll start this am. After I pickup the Nissan spindle nuts to tidy up the fuel tank threads. Plus stop a NAPA for more fuel line and fuel injection hose clamps.

I got rid of my kart before I started college in the early 70's, but I kept my old West Bend 2-stroke 5HP motor aktion035.gif

About 20 years ago, a friend who worked at Hughes Helicopter and I started a 1/4 scale RC helicopter project that was going to get the motor, but my friend moved up to Seattle and we never finished it dry.gif

I'd love to have another kart, but I doubt it will happen. Maybe I can toss it in a Taco Frijole minibike though biggrin.gif

Fixed the horn thanks to Mark (mepstein) giving me the base plate and wiring. Now I don't have to yell "Go!" at the soccer mom in the Minivan or Escalade in front of me that doesn't seem to notice the light turned green. A short honk should be sufficient to politely communicate my desire that they move forward in a leisurely fashion (or at least get the hell out of my way). Thank you, Mark!

Installed an AFR gauge. Found my car was running more than a bit rich across the range.

Ended up weakening the dynamic to bring up the WOT reading, and leaning out the static. The Itinerant Air guide is very helpful, but a lot of guessing is eliminated with actual numbers.

Well the staycation is coming to an end.

1. Got the engine back in and she fired right up after the fuel system got filled and pressurized. A couple fuel lines needed to be tighten, but still runs like a new car.
Even with one of the lines at the charcoal canister left open.

But then I found the return pipe on the fuel tank was dripping. wacko.gif
That's the one I had the thread issues with. So out came the fuel tank, again.
Looks like I could have used another 1/4 turn. But doped her up the Permatex with Teflon thread sealant. We'll give her a week to set up.

2. Then installed the JWest fog light flasher.
Works really cool. But now I'll have to buy some new fog lights from Camp914.

3. Then I stepped up and went after installing my new updated fuse panel. wasn't the Jwest one. Pretty easy to install. The center section that covers the fuse box on the backside is pretty thick. Which makes getting the wires spread side to side is pretty tight.
I may take it out and open up the factory taped up wire bundle and separate them four connections at a time. I also might add a couple 1/4" nylon spacers to give it a little more space for the wires. But she looks nice and tidy.

All and all a good week ...................... too bad it's almost over.

Adjusted the valves while engine was still sitting on the table. I do need to buy one of those stick on 1'*1' mirrors for under gearbox to see the flywheel.
I use the go, no go method. On the 2.0L adjust for 6, then test that the 7 won't go. Same with the 8 with 9. It's an anal thing
I only needed to adjust 3 intakes. Two loose. One tight.

Did run to Ace and bought some new lock nuts for the motor mount bolts.

With everything I tinkered with I was a little paranoid (electrical) on the start up.
But other than those couple issues she ran like new car.

Waiting for the thread sealant to set up on the gas tank. And the rear calipers coming back from plating at Eric's. And a couple rubber bits from Mark.

New fuel pump in the front trunk worked great. Only down side is its really quiet
It's a Performance Electric from RockAuto. I moved it to the trunk so it could be changed on the side of the road. I will carry an additional pump, filter and two fluid line clamps on long road trips.
