Loooonngggggg weekend. Got my teener off of jack stands after of week of tackling several projects, all of which were more or less dependent on the gas tank being removed. All three projects finished up today:
1. Replaced the master cylinder. After bolloxing up the one I bought I managed to use the one in my project teener, which I think is also a 19mm. After a power bleed everything seems to be working well. Wow, this project was a real PIA, and I learned a lot the hard way.
2. Cleaned up the fresh air blower that had never worked and managed to get mid and high speeds working (but low just gets the resistor hot and smokes and the fan doesn't move). Wow, this project was a real PIA, and I learned a lot the hard way.
3. Got the electric windshield washer pump installed and triggered off the column switch (924 wiper switch). Up to now the car has not even had the stock windshield washer solution, so it's good to have something in place. Wow, this project was a real PIA, and I learned a lot the hard way.
4. As a bonus, while the car was on jack stands I put new, wider tires on the rear to replace the OLD, cracked, pitifully thin tires that were there previously. This was not a PIA. It was easy and satisfying.
After all that, it felt REALLY good to fire it up after a week and take it for spin. Thanks for everyone's help and encouragement as I got through this. I managed to check off a lot of "to-do's" but boy were they a PIA!

Since it was pushed out of the garage for play time, I figured I would tinker with it. I have been scared to start it since it has been in storage for 20 plus years. I changed the oil, hooked up jumper cables, added fresh gas. First key turn, motor spun. I was happy it was not locked up. Second turn, spin and sputtered. Surprised would be an understatement. Third key turn, motor started and had a good idle. Completely shocked. I let it run for three mins then shut it down. It was just the thing I needed to make me keep it. My dad and I had talked for years about "getting it running". He passed away a year ago. My new goal is to get it road worthy, drive the dragon like we said we would. I will just have to do it with my lil girl in the passenger seat. Time to make new memories with the "tiny red car that winks" as she calls it.

Good luck. I'm sure there will be more "challenges" ahead, particularly after sitting all that time, but you've come to the right place. I started a little over a year ago on my '72 1.7L (red BTW, with the headlight that also "winks") that had been sitting for a LONG time. It's been a lot of fun, and this place has been invaluable. What year/engine/etc. do you have? And yes, your daughter is adorable. My 14 year old daughter LOVES riding with me in the teener just spinning around with the targa off. Hopefully you'll have a lot of memories with her.

Installed 17mm brake master cylinder today. The infamous feeder lines and rubber grommets were fairly easy to go in. It took me 30 min to figure out (but had to spend few hours to read numerous threads in advance). The easiest way for me was to install grommets in the MC first, then lubricate the fluid feeder lines with WD40. Finally I forced them to fit with my fingers followed by a pair of pliers to conclude. As I was advised, made the fluid reservoir loosened on the above. Click to view attachment Question: how do you reset this sensor switch? My old one has a nipple to play with but this one doesn't let me

You guys have been busy.
The time I thought I had earned from all the 'honey-doos' got put on the back burner - again We had another skunk take up residence under the house and took us almost a week to get the bugger out. One of our dogs found a way under the house too and guess what? ...
Well, after giving Kiddo a bath, I started refurbishing and making new crawl-space vent screens all around the house. Only have two left to go, but those are structurally sound, so they can wait until the rest of the trim gets painted next summer. I think we've got all the possible areas of entrance protected now
The weather is supposed to start cooling off (been in the high 90's and 100's) so hopefully (geeze, I get to use that word a lot these days) I can get to the shop later this week for some fun with grease and grime for a change

Playing around with the cars this morning.
Picked-up a set of wheel dolly yesterday from Harbor Freight to be able to rotate and for easy to move the 71 1.7 (with rear suspension console damaged). Borrowed pedrini wheels from 71 and install it to 75 1.8. Wow pedrini is the right offset for our 914 even 205x65x15 really has more fender space compare to the riviera with only 185x65x15 tires that made me pulled the fender a little bit. Hoping someone will buy the red one soon (74 1.8 FI), still waiting if the member is still interested with it.
Rear view with 205x65 tire is way better than 185x65 as long you have the right offset like pedrini wheels.

I know I know this carb is the worst choice EVER!!! but I went through every orifice and cleared each one. Also replaced the accelerator diaphragm and power valve diaphragm on the Weber dgv 32/36 that I'm using to get this beast back on the road. Also picked up the phosphoric acid stuff for addressing the rust concerns. in the hell hole and other spots.
I did a test drive but not befoe changing out the starter. Nice drive NICE 914.
