I went to a 911 party last weekend. shades.gif

Today, on my '74 I replaced a badly trashed up fuel filter with a generic $5 new one and the car seems to be running better. Also replaced the fuel level sender with a new one and now my fuel gauge works!! That's a real plus! And I replaced the passenger side headlight that died a couple weeks ago. Was a good day and now with beautiful weather on the horizon this week, i'll be doing (hopefully) a lot of open air driving biggrin.gif

Drove it to Cars & Coffee in Carlsbad, CA. Was wearing this shirt.

Later went to watch World Series Game 4 at a local bar. Surprisingly, quite a few people noticed the shirt and started asking me about 914s.

I sure hope Andy doesn't sue me for wearing this shirt. smile.gif

That's a nice shirt!

The gas tank has set for a week drying as per POR15 insructions. It sat for the week with a hair dryer blowing on medium heat. So I stirred up the sealer as per instructions. Don't shake, it causes air bubbles. Put the holes plugs back in and we're ready to go.
I used a funnel/screen to pour it into the tank. Screen caught any air bubbles that I created by stirring.
After flipping and twisting for about a 1/2 hour everything was coated to my liking. Took some doing to get the funnel baffle coated just right. Then I went to making sure all the excess was drained out. I read all the failure horror stories. It wouldn't all come out the bottom, the holes in the funnel baffle are too high up the sides. So I went to flipping it over. It took some doing to find the exact angle so it would drain out. And I still had to run my finger around the filler bung to pull the sealer over the inside bung rim 4 or 5 times. I did put the bolts back in so the threads didn't seal up.
Final result. Now it will sit for 5 days with the hair dryer blowing on medium heat before being reinstalled. Time will tell if it was worth the time, effort and $$.

I also painted the rear brake pistons as per Eric's video.

I have the rear splash guards drying after a little welding and primer. Can't decide on the color? Black, brass or silver.

I'm on vacation this week. Need some R&R before the impending Albertsons/Safeway merger explosion. So I'll be over here this week.

Lonewolfe. Glad to meet you.
Yes, I am just up the street a bit (164th). I purchased a rubber windshield seal from 914Rubber, but the fellow who installed my windshield chose to use his own seal, which appeared to be a little more flexible than my piece. I believe it is a generic that all the windshield people have access to.

QUOTE(lonewolfe @ Oct 25 2014, 10:44 PM) *

Hey Pneuhyde!

We're practically neighbors as I'm in Oakland close to Mills. Anyhow, where did you find the rubber windshield seal? I've not seen one of those before. My windshield was glued in with aluminum trim pieces around the outside.

And traveled underneath the car to install my new E-brake cables to match my new brake lines.

i TRIED to drive it today but headbang.gif it didnt want to start, partly because i think the battery is getting weak, but it usually cranks up on first turn, but it was like it was missing or not firing on all 4, like if i had bad points but i have hotspark module-
Saturday it ran fine, after putting in new coil, drove for 15 miles for test drive, ran perfect, came home, idled in driveway for a few minutes while i was monitoring temp and checking A/F readings, then parked it. That was just 4 days ago, so confused24.gif . almost started, was very rough, died, then would not get going.
didnt have time so i gave up and drove the other car to work. sad.gif

i'll re-check grounds tonight and maybe switch out the points module and/or FI points and see if that makes a difference- but if feels like a spark/electric issue not fuel.

Check the connections to your fuel injectors. 1 or more might have become loose. When I bought my car the PO could get it to run right so decided to sell it. I bought it then drove it a couple of blocks away, stopped re-connected all the wires to the injectors and it ran perfectly after that.

After sitting for 31 years with a little gas in it I decided to pull the fuel tank to clean it out. After disconnecting everything, I couldn't get it out, it was wedged in tight.
So I kept scanning the perimeter of the tank looking down from above to see what was hanging it up. Of course thats when it decided to let loose flying up into my cheekbone at warp speed.
So now I have a big welt, but its out!

Went to pick the body up from the painters...get there and finds that he hasnt painted the insides of the sailpanels.....he thought those areas would be covered....

Fixed most elusive, but major, oil leak on top of engine (-6). It gets blown
everywhere. The breather cover simply would not seal to the vent hose.
I think that the pitting and corrosion of 40+ years is too much.

My thought was thread the breather hole and get an adapter for 1" hose barb.
Of course nothing like that exists locally and I need to get this fixed while the
weather is still good. So this is the reason I like to have some spare aluminum

Adjusted the rear brake clearance. Everything went ok, and put new 5mm allan caps on. But found the right parking brake cable is not working correctly. Pulled it of the teener, and yep, no movement. So now going to order new cable. Tomorrow I'll be putting new front rotors, seals, bearings.

With the threat of rain on Saturday dry.gif ... I installed Perry's Umbrella Cover, just for good measure shades.gif

Talked with my friend Randy from Automeister (not Motor Scheister) ... discussed some performance upgrades to the stock wasser-boxer in the Westfalia (in lieu of a Subi conversion) while retaining smog requirement compliance. Also, gonna drop it off next week for some minor maintenance (leaking rear main seal, compression check and performance tune). I might have them install a set of taller Go-Westy springs I bought a few months ago too (1-1/2" lift) confused24.gif

What did I do to my 914 today? I bought it...

I thought picking it up would be the highlight of my day, but 5 miles or so down the road we stopped to fill the kids with some KFC. As we got out of the tow vehicle, a guy in a (sweat) Datsun 240Z caught me and asked permission to take a photo of my 914. I hadn't owned it for 10 minutes yet; it made my day.

I'll be trolling here for a while. I anticipate making slow progress on the car (with 4 kids I don't have much "ME" time!)

Whoa, that must have been great "fun." Thank goodness the tires (and the tranny itself) were the only casualties. Let us know what the root cause ends up being (and whether you had to swap your shorts after).
