647]Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentRoad bicycle rack finally completed. I had a bunch of parts laying around and finally got around to fabricating a bike rack. Now I can ride in both of my favorite forms of transportation. Basically used metal brackets from an old garage door opener, aluminum plate, aluminum angle, and lots of allen head screws. Still need to trim off the angle and rattle can the entire thing black. Looks like Rube Goldberg, but I did a test run and its pretty sold. Oh, yeah, the bike cost about the same price as the car.

Turned the Key to On and Fuel pump kicked in, EM Brake Light Flashed, Oil and Temp Light came on. Turned key to start and heard a click and everything went dead, tried Start again and nothing. Waited ten minutes and it did the same thing. Disconnected the Positive battery cable and removed the yellow tack wire from the Negative terminal at the coil, reconnected the Battery and she fired up and ran. Backed out of the garage and saw oil dripping from the Oil Filter. Put it up on ramps and took a oil filter wrench and gave it a 1/4 of a turn to snug it up. Better but still dripping. Coming down from above the filter. Only leaks when running. Drove around to my other garage and parked it for winter storage. Going to look for a good repair shop after Holiday and Income Taxes in the Spring and get everything fixed.

Got my car back from the body shop today as it was in for minor repair work after my neighbor backed into the bumber. Car came out much nicer and got to repair a few other areas of the car too and didn't cost me a dime!! Very happy !! Took it for a run at night time and it was so fun !! Car is running and looking very good now.

I had a slight exhaust leak so I used it as my excuse to buy some new ceramic coated and polished headers. Also installed billet fittings that mount on the block. I used plubming fittings because I cold not find billet fittings but learned that Mezzier sold them.

Car runs cool, fast and sounds much better with no exhuast leak due to the crappy headers I had on. beerchug.gif

Well...while I was laying on my back, working on my son's '65 Notch,
I looked over at my '74 on the jackstands and noticed a few places
that I didn't terminate when I welded the rear stiffening kit, and that
I need to ...

oh, yeah, I forgot that I didn't connect that side, because
I didn't finish that section, there, ...not there, ... over there !
( JFC ! )....NEVER MIND, hand me the 17mm box...

... I need to get back to MY project, ...just after the K Ghia.

... Somofabitch ...Goddamnit, you hit me in the shin with the
fuckin' floorjack...Shit ...quit kicking the floor jack while I'm under here !

...anyyywaaay, I left a hand print in the dust on my hood, recently, and just a few
months ago, I sat in it.

Pelican has the the 12 point tool. I ended up finding mine at a local VW Bug shop... a quality tool at a great price. I would recommend anyone looking for parts/tools to search out a good classic VW shop.

Last weekend: new rear rotors and rear brake pad clearance adjustment. Where can I get the caliper adjustment gear caps with the 4mm allen hex with the copper washer? The original aluminum onse are stripped to hell. I thought I saw someone selling them here at one point... in steel? Eric Shea?

This weekend: bleeding brakes single-handed. No way I'm asking the wife for help (divorce is expensive in California). Wish me luck.

Yep, Eric's got 'em at PMB, super fast shipping with USPS Priority Mail, too. I've just mounted up "speed bleeders", works like a champ.

I pulled the "A" arms, struts, pedal box, brakes, master cylinder & gas tank. However I coulnd not get the steering rack & crossmember. It is loose but hung up on something.

So I pulled the interior to remove the tar/sound deadiner and white caulk stuff. While the frt end is removed I want to clean some rust before it gets words.

i just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys do day to day on your cars.
what did you do to your 914 today?

I cut off and rewelded the pivot point for my shift linkage for the 930 trans/V8 package. I raised it a bit to get out of harms way, readjusted the Corvette Z06 shifter & linkage and took it for a test drive.

It was GREAT shifting now and I filled the tank for the New Years Day "hang-over" fun run in SOCAL.

I'm Ready!

Thought it would be a good idea to pull my oil pan (SBC) and fix some oil leaks with a new Felpro 1 peice pan gasket. Got it all together and oil poured out of the front pan seal worse than before. Turns out Felpro makes several types. Thick front seal / thin front seal. $35.00 later I bought the thick front seal, one peice gasket. got it all together, full of new oil and she's ready to run.
Took her for a run around the block, no leaks, all is good for now.
Any SBC's or V8's out there I recommend the one piece gasket, they seal like a champ and very easy to install, so easy I did it twice av-943.gif

I added a battery tender charger to mine today.

I beat on mine with a 10# sledgehammer and jumped up and down on a crowbar until the fender released it's grip on the ruined tire....

Update:

Pulled fuel tank, no leaks! Pulled out the fresh air box, put in new used fresh air box from Tomas- it works, tested contacts at the fan cleaned the contacts on the sliders don't but for some reason I can only get the fan to work on the middle setting speed #2. Better than nothing like before, but I am not satisfied. The contacts touch. All that i will reevaluate another day. All that took so long I never got to figure out my window washer issue, or replacing the c.h.t. ah, but there is tomorrow!
(I i've had the whole week off but only spent a few hours on the car. )

I forgot to add- after I got the fan in and tank back in place -they with the help of my 19biggest y.o. son, we left the kids at home and I took my wife out for a drive! Only the 3rd time on 2+ years we've been able to do that! And pulling thru downtown, slow in afterwork traffic, I am amazed at how people will stop and look, and point st these cool cars.
