Well, still waiting for the Odyssey battery I ordered for the 'BB' to be delivered
- was hoping it would show up today, because I dropped the Vanagon off at Automeister this morning.
I spent a couple of hours checking things out at Randy's shop and was happy to find out that Randy can re-tumble the rear hatch lock to match the door/ignition key
I didn't want to keep the guys from making real $, so I removed the rear panel and lock mechanism.
Anxious to drive the 'BB' again, it's been a few months since I parked it and removed the old battery ... kind of miss her :teary eyed smiley: ... she's much quicker than the Vanagon
Oh yeah, I ordered a new chromie tip for the banana muffler from Parts Haven ... just need to remember to run a couple of short sheet-metal screws through it (with a little red loc-tite) to help hold it in place

Hope you sprayed it with a clear coat, Mark

... Actually cleaning up the cap (inside and out) will make it work better, by improving your spark path (no carbon trails to ground)
Dropped off some more little parts for the Vanagon suspension work. Looking good so far

Yeah it's pretty small, especially when compared to the Tundra battery I tried to stuff in there. It's what Odyssey calls out for for a 914 though and it works great. I want to fabricate a plastic waterproof cover for it, so I left some headroom in the bracket.

Drove the 'BB' to a doctor's appt., then down to my shop to grab some Vanagon parts, then over to Automeister to drop off the parts off and check the progress on Eileen.
The front suspension upgrade is completed, they were installing new evap and fuel hoses while I was there and the fuel tank was ready to go back in today. The rear suspension upgrade, rear main seal and tranny seals are scheduled for next week ... and an engine analysis and performance tune if needed.
As I backed into the driveway, heard some strange noise coming from the rear end
... It only appears to make the noise in reverse
Guess I need to get it on the lift this w/e to see WTF is going on

Not so much TO as WITH. First day above 50 degrees in the last 2 weeks (and probably not many more for a while..). Finally got my insurance card with the new coverage, so I took her out for a little run. Started slow around the neighborhood, then a couple mile run up and back on the freeway. I almost forgot how much fun a cloverleaf is with these cars. Just long enough to get both our 'blood' flowing good. Hoping for at least the upper 40's tomorrow and get her out again.

Took the "new" '73 to Cars and Coffee in Carlsbad today for it's first public introduction. Then stopped by TC's Garage in Vista and picked up some parts. Then spent the rest of the day removing paint overspray. The car was painted in 1986 by the previous owner, and nothing was masked off. I have quite to project to clean this car up. Today, cleaned the paint off the latch cups, the front hood latch, the rear trunk latch, and lots of little other misc items. Also, replaced the plastic and rubber targa top holders with brand new ones.
The pix with blue paint on the parts are "before," the cleaned up ones are "after."

I checked a few 'to-do' things off of my list: All lights work, but the horn(s) don't and the fogs never got hooked up. Oh, I need to fix the gas gauge wiring by the sender. Why were they cut in such a shi**y place? I need to catch up financially, and move forward. Dang, these cars are expensive for such cheap cars. My girl actually went to dinner in the 914 with me. She likes it, but she is more of an Aston-Martin girl. Car is running very well, finally. Dumb luck?

Spent the better part of the day chasing this RUF around the back roads of San Diego. I had no chance up hill and in the straights but my little 914 held its own through the really twisty bits!
Had a great drive with the SD region PCA today, I have not been able to really drive the car hard through some really curvy roads, and I must say I was shocked on how well the car handled! I thought I would have been lost in the dust or holding people up, but once it really got curvy and winding around the canyons, holy Sh*t do these cars perform! I flogged the motor and rest of the car pretty good this weekend and did not have any issues, so we will see if any thing pops up after the beating. I was a huge fan and loved the car before, but after today it's at a whole new level.

Hey Andy, that front bumper and valance look great with the oil cooler setup. Are the bumper and valance metal or fiberglass? What type oil cooler are you using? I've been trying to decide whether to mount an oil cooler in the front like yours or putting it in the rear above the transaxle with a thermostatically controlled electric fan. I'm considering the front because my car came equipped with an aftermarket A/C so I already have a big hole in the front trunk floor and hose routing from that A/C unit. Have you posted any pics on inside the trunk?

No noticable change in temps but next summer will tell. I don't think I'll have an issue with oil temps, I made a few runs out to Slits in 90+ and it never past 180deg.
The front and rear bumpers are glass and from Getty design with a Setrab cooler from Patrick motorsports. No need for fans up front and lots of pictures in my build thread.
