I don't have a 914...stop teasing me....

okay I do still have a 1:43 scale 914.....which I placed up against my new-to-me blown up wiring diagrams for a '73 which I just had plotted out at Staples, less than $15 for both, 22"x18", laminated.

Why '73? Well that is the car that I made an offer on and should know tomorrow if he still wants to sell it not.

Nice diagrams! Good luck on the car purchase! Get them while you can!

Did you double-check against the trouble-shooting links on Jeff Bowlsby's site?

really too much to write - everything- BTW its D-jet, 75 2.0. , last issue we did i.d. a back MPS, but never really figured out what was making it so lean that with a bad MPS it would actually run(with the vac hose off). replaced that and spent a week driving and tuning in another mps last 2 drives were showing the A/F right on the money, - TPS set, FI harness was new couple years ago from Jeff B, and mechanic tested all the connections and wires for conductivity etc. i guess the list would be long but fuel pressure- 28-29, fuel is there; a few weeks back when it was at bobs shop and he was sorting thru it for me i had had the same thing happen and i could not get it to start, so i trailered it over to his shop. SO it was exact same issue but at some point the mps failed, we replaced it and it ran- but i still think there is a bad connection somewhere in the system, he also must have messed around enough that it was not doing this . - fyi something similar happened about a month or so before that - one day would not start, same thing, walked away, came back a few hours later and it fired up on first crank! kind of forgot about it because it didnt happen again for over amonth until that fateful day.
-
since coming home from mechanic i have not touched anyting except reset the TPS because he had it set wrong, re-tuned the mPS and put in the new temp sensor- as you remember when i did that (it had quit running i could barely get it to run replaced that and suddenly it ran)-but of course the abient air temp sensor would not do that so i believe it was just a coinsidence - most likely moved the harness enough to cause whatever was shortingout to reconnect so it ran- for a while---
- what i forgot to mention is this week saturday when i whent to drive it and it didnt start, - it almost started at first, but was missing bad, could not keep it running, it died and then i could not even get it to fire at all - and since will not start - that episode, what it reminded me of was when one of the FI ground connections came loose a few years ago and was causing it to fire on one set intermittantly as it was hanging there and barely touching- that is what it reminds me of, but ive rechecked those and they are on their ground connections and ive re-checked the harness connection to the distributor f.i. points as well.

Wow, LINGO. Your wheels look great. I just gave my four-bolt Fuchs a cleaning too but they didn't come out looking that nice. I fear the anodizing is ruined on mine. What product did you use to clean yours?

Sorry for the delayed response. Well I tried a lot of non abrasive cleaners because I was concerned about what I read from others about potential damage but nothing worked until I said the hell with it and used Meguiars Hot Rims Chrome Wheel cleaner. I was stunned at the results after spending hours working with the other cleaners. Went over them twice front and back. I would recommend it to anyone. I never imagined I could get them to this level. I used some simichrome to finish them up with a cloth. I sanded down the brake calipers and painted them red to really give it a fresh look.

I fought a week long no start condition that turned out to be a cracked ignition switch and a worn out key tang inside the switch. New ignition switch and wrapped the tang with aluminum tape and it works fine.
Gonna have to look for a nice tang for a 75/76. Its the little part that goes from the key module into the ignition switch. Its only the OEM part so I guess it just wore out. mad.gif

Had a busy MLK day off work- finally had time to put the new tuna can deep deep sump on, the new replacement taco plate and vdo oil temp sensor. After that changed the oil and filter. Took it for a drive , came home and put new lug nuts on and one of the fuchs I painted a while back.
Realized that my tag was not up to date - I paid the tax and the dmv is supposed to send the new tag in the mail. That was a month ago and it still hasn't come- tag date was last month so now I really need to get that tag updated, should not be driving outside the neighborhood with out that.

I received a package in the mail from France today. It is a NOS MoMo steering wheel from 1991. I switch up my steering wheels on my car once in a while to mix it up a bit. I either run stock or a 350mm Prototipo but sure am excited to try out this 370mm wheel that has just the slightest dish to it. It was reasonably priced considering some of the earlier flat Prototipos can get into the thousands. Pictures of it on the car to follow once I get it mounted.

You may wish to consult the rulebook for your local PCA regarding those belts. While they look fine in terms of attachment, our tech requires any car with harnesses must have them installed with a true racing seat where they pass through it. On a 914, they might still work since the headrest is so narrow. But wouldn't want you to get all the way there and have to pack up because it doesn't pass tech. Have fun!

Yea that was one of hence things I was concerned about but I got the car pre-teched locally and since the performance numbers are so low they just see it as a safety upgrade better then stock, also the TT and DE I'm doing is much like a stock class so it was good to go. Thanks for the heads up!

Is it really that cold up there?
lonewolfe
Wow, two heater fans? I've not seen that before. Does anyone know if the late plastic bodied heater fans are better than the early metal bodied fans? Is one more effective than the other?
BeatNavy
Yeah, I've thought about installing a second fan as well. I actually have three fans (for my two cars) now, courtesy of grump (Bill) and another one I bought here. Pelican has an article by a guy that did it. It's not terribly detailed, but at least tells you it can be done: Second Blower Fan.

The other day I realized I wasn't getting any heat, meager or not, out of my driver side vents. Pulled off the heater flapper and realized it wasn't opening properly. That helped a lot.

I have two early style and one of the late style. Not sure if early or later is more effective. I think it certainly matters what kind of shape the fan is in, and they are all getting older and complain louder when they work now. Like me. dry.gif
