Waiting for the phone call to pick up Eileen (Westy camper), so I'm just cleaning Toyota parts today, instead of being pretzeled-up under the 'BB's dash (to install a new ignition switch). I received the steering shaft bushing/sleeve a couple of days ago, so ready to jump in and get-er-done when I get the time.

Took delivery of a set of new shoes for Eileen, yesterday smile.gif

Are those Mercedes wheels 7" wide? What size and type tires did you get?
euro911

Very nice! Those tires should get you where you want to go!

Took a look under to see if I had any leaks on the tranny.

I did not want to fuss with a jack and stands, so I went redneck.

I hoping for no more than a few drops an hour.

What is the factory settings for engine oil drops per hour?

And tranny oil leaks?

Last week I freshen up my 42 year old wheel well on my passenger side. After doing that my driver's side (which I thought look okay) now looked like crap.

So today I freshen up the driver's side too with some rattle can paint. Now they match! beerchug.gif

Not sure why but I installed rain-tray, PO had removed. It was raining out today after all...

Can anyone tell me if I have the rubber "damper/stopper" in the right place? Just behind passenger seat, on rear of engine cover? Doesn't seem to really help, that side of the engine cover still flaps/rattles like crazy (which I HATE).

Supposed to be at the other side (driver side) and I think it is for early year like 71 and 72 engine cover.

Use the adjustable round rubber stops to eliminate the rattle. Unscrew them until they put some pressure on the lid.

Copy that ndfrigi.

I will move it around and see how it works out. I had assumed it was some sort of vibration inhibitor and that side of my engine cover (away from latch) has a lot of slop.

I doubt I will keep the rain-tray on all the time, seems to get in the way of servicing the engine (which is WAAAAY harder than servicing a bus with dual carbs).

Michael - That steering wheel looks terrific.

Thanks Michael, BeatNavy and Lonewolfe for the compliments on the wheel. I got a good chance to test it out on my drive to Santa Cruz today. I went to Steamers Lane to check out the surf. When I parked on the cliff I was immediately passed by a teal or grey colored 914. I think it had a 916 style bumper. I came home on old Santa Cruz Highway to beat the weekend crowds on HWY 17. Stopped in Los Gatos for dinner and took the photo with the lights on the trees downtown.

I took apart my door handles & mechanisms. The driver's door was getting very hard to open and I knew it had probably never been out of Speedy in 42 years. Well, they were really dirty and with some cleaner, a wire brush and, some light oil, the they work really well now. Really well. The key locks the door now (duh) and the action at the door handle is amazingly easy. This is a good weekend afternoon project to perform and wasn't hard to do at all.

I fixed up an old Ski Rack I have for the 914. The rubber straps were deteriorating so I made some new ones with some extra webbing I have. Not sure if I will ever use it but oh well.

40 hrs ago skis had skinny side cuts and were over 200cm long.

Now they be 175cm long and fat sidecuts. The fatties for pow pow can be twice the width.

Just sayin.

Mine had a lot of old thick sticky grease that made them stik. Looked like white lithium grease.
I found that brake cleaner worked awesome to clear it all out!! Amazing! Now they work like new and I didn't have to use a brush or scrub or soak .

I used brake cleaner too, the crap just poured out of them. It is amazing how light of a touch the stock handles/mechanisms have when cleaned and properly lubricated. Night and day.
