Was able to weld my rear suspension console on my 71 1.7 yesterday and today finish installing the transmission from the 71 1.7 MS car to and 75 1.8 Ljet and now I have 1st gear after driving the 75 since 2011 without it. But I have problem shifting it to 2nd gear from 1st gear, there is grinding. When I had my old transmission, I'm having problem shifting to 2nd gear whenever I have a full stop, what I do before is to shift it to 2nd gear while in motion before a full stop.

Noel, is your clutch completely disengaging? You might try adjusting it a little tighter and see if it helps.

I got a late start priming, so didn't get to work on the 'BB' dry.gif

Thanks for your response Mark! Car move in about 1/3 release on the clutch pedal. I assume that is the right adjustment. All gears shift smoothly except when going to 2nd gear from 1st gear. Scary when you try to get the initial power from 1st gear then shift to 2nd gear but you will get that grinding! It can go in but very very careful but the momentum from 1st will lost already. But I will try tomorrow tightening a little bit more till maybe half way of pedal release before disengaging.

If your referring to my beast, my life is on hold due to a detached retina. Two laser eye surgerys later, it's now slowly healing.
I was told no lifting, bending, etc for several weeks now. I am so close to getting my car running. I was hoping to drive it to the Phoenix club, car show and swap meet, but that ain't going to happen again.

Pulled my front drop links, cleaned, primed and painted. In the process I found my fuel leak. Huh? I had smelled gas for a few weeks but saw nothing. When I filled up at Costco I noticed a bit of fuel beneath the car when I returned from shopping inside so I thought I'd peak beneath the tank. When home I removed the steering rack cover and it was dry as a bone. WTF.gif As I'm removing the drop links I notice gas dripping from the gas overflow tube. I had the car jacked up on the left side which brought the fuel level up to the "old" overflow tank gasket which is on the right side, as the tank was still pretty full. When level and not completely full it did not leak but smelled. Installed Mikey's new gasket and all is good. Also installed his rear trunk seal set.

Viagra!! Just kidding!! I was told that 20% of the people that get floaters could also get a detached retina. i guess I am one of the unlucky ones. It only detached a little bit, but they still have to laser it back on, so it doesn't get worse.

While attempting to disassemble the windshield wiper control assembly to clean the contacts (because it only has ONE speed), a whole bunch of little parts and springs flew out of the housing. I found them all which was a pretty big surprise in itself, but I also figured out how it's supposed to work. Now, if I can just get it all back together. The problem is that I need 4 hands and will have to fabricate a couple of special tools to do it dry.gif

Luckily, I had a spare assembly at the shop, so that's one less headache to deal with for the moment aktion035.gif

Installed the speedo angulo drive. I soaked it for a couple days in the acetone/PS fluid blend, and it turns real smooth. Dried it and packed in a little 00 grease, which is not very viscous.

Now I'm back in the house, watching the snow fly.... Sigh...

Someday, I'll drive the car again rolleyes.gif

I dropped it off to have the RD front and rear trunk pieces welded in along with both trunk hinge brackets. I have seen the guys work and it is very good and the price isn't bad. biggrin.gif The front was because at one time it was an AC car and was cut out and the rear half of the rear trunk just rusted out (I assume). The drivers side hinge broke and the pass side had at one time and it looks like someone like me tried to weld it. it held but looks nasty.

Glad you went Larmo, I couldn't be there with the green 914, but my father in law, Bill was there with my 14 year old son. They took Billl's 2000 blue 911 convertible, 996 I guess. Yesterday I installed a flourecent light over my new work area in the shop, and bolted my vise down.

Today I got the intake removed from the 3.2, took the engine wire harness apart and pulled out the wires I won't need. Rerouted the harness and install the new male 14 pin connector. Now the engine harness will just plug into the car female 14 pin connector, no relay board. Made a wire harness to connect the oil pressure and oil temp senders to plug into the car harness going to the gauges. Now just the wiring going into the cabin to wire, and the electrical will be done. piratenanner.gif

I guess they don't have Porsches in China?

Yesterday when I was at the harbor they were unloading fish from a boat. A Chinese fish monger guy came up to my car and kept staring and staring. He asked me in broken English what brand it was (apparently he didn't see the big "PORSCHE" across the side, or perhaps he can't read).

Anyway, when I told him it was a Porsche, he said he'd never heard of that brand and asked if it was an American company.

He was stunned to find out that it's a 42 year old car. He said that in China they don't allow cars more than 10 years old, and that there are no good mechanics there. I've never been there, so can't vouch for his statements.

Oh, I showed him the front trunk... no motor. Back trunk... no motor. He stared in puzzlement for a bit, then leaned over and lifted the rear trunk carpet and the look on his face was amazing when there was no motor there either!

Had a few hours to play with the 'BB' yesterday. In addition to getting the steering column housing out, I also pulled the gauge dash loose to see how big of a nightmare changing the gauges would be.

I never liked the plastic gauge panel on the 'late' cars and had picked up a rusty metal one a few years ago. Located it, sanded and primed it yesterday, then sanded it down again today. Now I have to decide what color to paint it idea.gif ... flat or semi-gloss black? ... or maybe silver hammer-tone? confused24.gif

I might finally get around to installing the silver-dot gauges that Timothy worked his LED upgrade magic on (well over a year ago) confused24.gif

For some reason, I decided to dig up some of the sound deadener tar from the pedal area. YIKES yikes.gif ... looks like I need to treat some rusty metal.

With many events coming up real soon, I don't have time to tear up the entire floor, so I'll just deal with the pedal area for now.

Woke up early and went to cars and coffee in Blackhawk. Got there at 7:45 and parking was already filling up. There were about 200 cars and 3 914's. Nolan and I went into the museum and were disappointed that the top level has now been changed to a old west and American Indian display and no longer cars. It seems that they have dropped the automotive off the title of the museum and it is now The Blackhawk Museum rather than The Blackhawk Automotive Museum. headbang.gif

Hey Mark,
Sorry I didn't see this earlier.
Been continuing to put the interior back together with a few new seals here and there, filled and bled the brakes and need to make sense out of the e-brake adjustment procedure.
And, JUST TODAY, dropped the engine out of my original (now my donor) and removed all the shifting hardware to be transferred to the 72. I guess once I install the shift linkage and get the electrical sorted I really wont have an excuse to not have a running car smile.gif
No pics today of the 72, but Pics are of the rust in my soon to be up for sale 74 roller
