Went to the swap meet at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim. Wow, I bought some cool stuff and there were hundreds of beautiful Porsches of all types. The 914 contingency turned up about thirty cars. Speedy ran great and is a real trooper.
Wished I could have made it. I woke up around 5 and my back was still bugging me, so I went back to bed yellowsleep[1].gif

I got up again around 10 and drove the 'BB' to get my 'late' morning coffee. Much later in the day and after medicating, I [carefully] loaded a bunch of boxes of car parts into the Vanagon. Most are parts for my wife's '71 restoration and "have no business sitting around the house" (at least that's what she said) laugh.gif

Going back in time, G e o r g e came by the shop on Friday to take the tour and pick up a seat. He also helped me loaded up a cherry-picker hoist to bring home. There's 4 engines that need to get over to the shop, (1) T4, (1) 901 and (2) 616s), and having the hoist here will allow me get them loaded up into the Vanagon easier. I can borrow a hoist from a neighboring shop to unload and hoist them up onto their respective engine stands smile.gif

Then the fun begins ... tearing them apart and/or reassembling them chowtime.gif

Took mine out to Home Depot yesterday To buy fertilizer and de-moss'er for the yard. This crazy damp PNW winter has moss growing like crazy. Car running amazing and cool weather for top off.

Today I am taking it to a meeting. Dressed in a shirt and a tie.
When was the last time you drove your 914 wearing a tie? Pinky up! I hope I see a 911. driving.gif

Perfect day to dig her out of the Garage I keep it in during the winter.

I had to cut a path 200 ft long, 6 ft wide, in the 10-14 inch high snow from the garage to the road. The path is unpaved lawn, with Ice under the packed snow. It's 50 degrees today and things are starting to melt quickly so today was the time to do it before the lawn under the snow and ice turns to mud.

There's a slight incline and I thought if this was front wheel drive car it would be an easy drive. So, I backed it out in reverse the entire way! Worked great to my surprise.

She fired right up with the second turn of the key and ran perfectly for the first time since being stored last fall. I only drove it a short distance to the other garage we have which is attached to the house. Can't take it any where yet cause the roads are salted and there's lots of run off of the melting snow on the roads. But once the melt is over and some expected rain hits us this week things will dry out and the salt will be gone.

Ready for Hershey, I put new Sachs Boge Shocks and Struts on her over the winter and can't wait to see how much they improve the ride over the KYB's I took off.IPB Image]My Webpage IPB Image]My Webpage

Good for the soul. Yesterday I drove 550 miles in 8-9 hours, first 3 hours topless. No head cold, but did get sunburned since I forgot my driving hat. Only got 31mpg.

Topless is always good for the soul.

Drove it. In the rain! Only had it since Jan and had not been out in rainy weather yet. So I wanted to see if she leaked anywhere. Other than needing new wiper blades, all dry on the inside. Frunk a little wet, Trunk dry as a bone, engine compartment a little wet (I am running rain tray).

Today was my birthday. I took the day off work and drove to Alice's in Woodside for lunch. Then I took Hwy 35 to Half Moon Bay before heading down Hwy 1 to Santa Cruz. Along the way to Santa Cruz I stopped to check out the surf and views. While in Santa Cruz, I stopped at Marianne's for some 10/20 ice cream then headed home to San Jose.

The car ran like a champ. What a great way to spend the afternoon.

Crawled under to take some exhaust measurements and noticed a few drops of brake fluid on the floor. Found that I had never tightened the inverted flare nut properly and 2000 miles later it began to leak. headbang.gif

Chad told me that it took him all weekend... but it's hit or miss. Mine only took me 4-5 hours. Depends on how much rust you have and how stuck everything is.

The tool is awesome. I also loaned Chad my set of toe plates so he could get the steering dialed in. IMHO, they're worth investing in, even if you don't do your own alignments.

Painted another wheel today.
Last one took forever to cure and harden so this one i thinned just a little and I added a curing agent, japan dryer. 2 down and 3 to go.

I taped off the back holes, leveled the wheel over a basin and poured the paint in until it was up to the level of the original paint line.
I will post more pictures after its dry
.

so after 6 days , these are still not dry, i have a feeling this will take a month for the enamel to fully cure. just too thick in the outside area - spraying will take longer to tape off but pouring them makes it too thick to dry fast. - the first one i did took over a month to cure and harden, but that is ty pical of an oil based enamel.

i was hoping i could mount it before the cars and coffee next weekend but i dont think it will be ready.

- btw as someone suggested, i did clean out the holes where the lug nuts seat so that they would be metal on metal smile.gif
they do look pretty good though!

It's that spanner wrench in the backround on the ground. There is a member here who laser cut some out from some HSLA steel.

I borrowed one from a local member here so I could do mine this month.

It was 95 degrees here today, so I didn't feel compelled to work on a black car screwy.gif

Instead, did some more prepping for my desert camping trip next week. Had to locate more camping equipment and deal with a flat tire on the Z50 I'm taking. I disassembled the rear wheel but couldn't get the bead to lose it's grip on the wheel WTF.gif ... ended up just swapping a wheel from another [non-running] bike.

Since components of the uncooperative wheel are apart, I sanded and painted the hub with Dupli-color #DE1615 (Aluminum) to see how close it matches the original color. Looks like a good match to me smile.gif

While rummaging, I ran across an envelope with some cool suspension wrenches that Doug (dlee6204) made. One of them was already starting to rust, so I filed the sharp edges and threw a heavy coat of Rustoleum Rust Reformer on it. I'll do the same to other one later.
