Amazing it is Mark. Took me around 15 mins to get the rear parts off and attempt to memorize how they went back together and how they all work together. The shifter area I had been in before so I knew what to expect while in there. Took around an hour the next day to install and button up the rear as well as install and button up the shifter area. Feels sooo much better to drive now.
I can now get back to teaching my newly 16 year old daughter how to drive it. If she can drive it, she can drive anything biggrin.gif And I have a salvage title Boxster she can drive if she does what she's supposed to!

Last night at auto shop class, mounted and balanced a set of new tires onto a set of TRD wheels I recently picked up for the parts hauler.

Went with a narrower tire this time, should help to provide improved fuel consumption. Toyo Open Country AT/S 225/75-16.

Just finished cleaning up two, will get the others done mañana FERG.gif

I put a 'For Sale' sign on the 'BB'. A few people have stopped and asked "how much?" … told them "a lot" laugh.gif (I knew they were just tire-kickers)

Dropped the '73 off with Jeff at Checkpoint Auto in Marrietta to check out my recent hot start problem. They think the solution is to do the relocation of the fuel pump so we'll be doing that today and changing out some of the original fuel lines. Also asked him to check out the rear sag.

Your rear springs are probably tired. Replaced mine with 100 lb springs and she looks good. Got them from Auto Atlanta in Marietta.

Thanks, Terry. I suspect I'll need to go that route. We need to get a cars and coffee in ATL. Just talked to another guy (Dee) who just completed a deal on a driver six that is being shipped from california. Harve is here and I know I've spoken with 4-5 others.

Finally got some finish color on the rear deck lid. Went well with minimal problems. Nice to see the finish color. Really motivated to finish up the rest of the bodywork and get it all shiney. Shot satin black on all the fiberglass parts a couple of weeks ago. Click to view attachmentClick to view attachment

I got a gallon of EASTWOOD satin black rubber coating to black out the center of my Lindsey wheels. I like them better than full polish. Click to view attachment Click to view attachment

Stopped by the shop to pick up a set of tires/wheels that I need to drop off in Oceanside Sunday morning. Decided to stick around and gathered up parts to finish putting a 616 (912) motor back together.

Unfortunately, the parts I needed were in different boxes in several different places in the shop, but I finally found everything. Also sorted some other parts I ran across. Still don't have everything separated properly (by car) yet, but I'll eventually get that task done.

Need to order some O-rings for the head bolts and cut new intake manifold gaskets to finish the job. Also found another set of Italian Weber carbs … maybe I'll toss them on my wife's new Ghia happy11.gif

I handled some 914 parts at different times throughout the day - does that count?

Installed new clutch cable and adjusted (correctly). Finally no more grinding of gears for reverse and third.

That little snap-on clevis thingy to attach the cable to the pedal is a real beeatch to install - if only because it is in a terrible location and impossible to see.

I bought a set of wheels for the teener! Should have them in a week. I've been wheel less for 2 weeks and have missed some beautiful weather. So a nice set of 16x6 fuchs are on their way . piratenanner.gif

Picked up some C2 wheels with almost new tires for 425. They were on Ebay and the seller was 10 minutes down the road- I texted him and an hour later they were mine!
Oh, and had my knee replaced on Wednesday...

What are C2 wheels? Pics? (of the wheels, not the knee, but good luck with that).

I've downloaded the '914 Engine Removal Made Easy' pages from the Pelican site. It's a national holiday on Monday (so called King's day) and that's the perfect moment for a quiet day under the 914!

I'll keep you guys posted - with pics, off course!

They're from a '92 964- he'd replaced them with some Speedlines that look really great with his black car, tan leather interior. Good deal I just happened upon.
And you don't really want a pic of my knee... barf.gif

Alas, my car sits most of the time as it's not really streetable and I have not been doing as many track events lately as in past years. But today I did actually touch the car! First I popped-out the door that some $^!@#* caved-in with light contact at the last event I did.

Then I installed this sweet Wevo shift knob. I sure hope I like it cuz I think it would be impossible to get back off! It's a crush sleeve type and very tight on the Rennshift shaft. I usually prefer set-screw knobs.

Installed the brass shift rod coupler bushing after my other one disintegrated completely. Had it in for state inspection Thursday, which it passed, but maybe the mechanic didn't know how to shift a teener - he may have manhandled the shifting. Not long after I got it home I suddenly only had two gears. Pulling back the rubber boot on the coupler and nothing but crumbs fell out that had once been a bushing.

Getting the pin out was a MAJOR PITA! A couple of days of heat, PB Blaster, multiple failed attempts with vice and hammer. Wow. It finally broke free in the vice using the floor jack handle for leverage.

Picked up a "free" 1.7 of unknown history, the PO tried to turn it over by hand, but it seems stuck pretty good....I got it mostly for the engine tin and accessory bits....I am supposed to be buying a 1.7 from McMark and I think it is missing the engine tin and some other bolt on items.

The wife and twins went along for the ride to pick it up.

Luckily a neighbor was around to help me get out of the truck and place it on the welded up poly box

I took my targa bar pad off for the first time today. I bought restored rear clamps from Bruce Stone, and replaced those. Everything came off, and all of the new parts are installed. Actually, the hardest part is putting the pad BACK ON……………... Seriously, that was the real challenge.

It almost cost me....see those white towels on the left side? Guess what?

I forgot I put my girls white sweaters in the back and placed the motor right on them....yep...dirty and greasy!

I walked into the house and showed them to my wife and she just said "let me spray them and see if they come clean?" She got them clean and I didn't get yelled at!

Met up with 6Freak and then drove to the meet the other PNW Teeners before going to the Porsche Car Show at the XXX Drive-In. Overall a good day.

No 914 stuff today … grabbed the boxes of stuff out of the Ghia to see what all came with. Bought some small parts we needed on the Samba and still researching where to buy some new rubber seals.

One of the headlight rings isn't correct, and I found a rusty one in one of the boxes.

Don't ask why, but I spent a half hour sanding it with 150, then painted it with silver rustoleum screwy.gif

I blew up something on the '74 today ("Sharky").

From the responses I have received, sounds like air flow meter.

Elliot would like this picture with his two loves, 914's and flying.

Trying to get my teener back on the road. Got another engine for her, trying to get all the parts back on, tins, fan, fan housing, ect.. Noticed I'm missing the wire keepers for the valves. Need to find a pair plus the energy to do all this work.

Finding every day is tougher to just get up, getting old sucks. Hopefully get my son to help with the engine replacement.
