I walked out to the garage to install the used side marker lens I got in the mail today. I quickly realized the seller sent me the wrong side. I promptly turned around, went back in, and laid down on the couch.

Hey Mike!

I've been considering picking up one of the GT front bumpers, lower valance and inner shroud. What did they charge to ship the bumper? Does it come with brackets?

$46 and it does have brackets but not drilled for mounting bolts. I have the valence too and they are a pretty good match.

I like your fender flares! Did you do those yourself?

Thanks; they're Tangerine Racing flares as correctly observed above. ^^^

Looking for advice on recovering these. I will have my kit from 914rubber soon and need to prep them. There is some foam damage so I need advice on repair OR a beeter set of core seats to purchase for recovering.

I've got that same interior in my 76. Lets us know how well the material matches.

I replaced the pushrod tube seals on the driver's side tonight. With any luck, I'll do the passenger side tomorrow. Then I'll be able to reinstall the exhaust & heat exchangers, and get it off the jackstands. aktion035.gif

We got back from a long trip to AZ (in the Tundra) late Monday night. Didn't get a chance to drive the 'BB' yesterday, but I drove around town for a while and picked up a few groceries today. A lady walking by as I was getting out, commented "there's an oldie but a goodie". I think she was referring to the car? confused24.gif

i contacted Mark , and he suggested getting similar density foam from an upholtery shop locally and gluing it on then trimming it back smooth-- has any one else done this and documented the proceedure?? What kind of glue? what density did the factory use?

I'm going to give this a try. I'm going to use carpet underlayment to pad the sides and back and very high density foam for the seat cusion. I want much firmer cusion than stock. The foam is from joann fabric, the carpet underlayment from home depot. Look on youtube. Many people use an electric carving knife to shape the foam, I bought one on ebay for $15.

An automotive interior supply will have all the different foam panels you need as well as the spray glue. Also, use a piece of 3/4" - 1" memory foam for your top or final layer. Your trimmed final shape will not be as smooth as OEM but once the cloth or vinyl is stretched over it will smooth out. I made the seats in the plane I built and it is not that difficult. beerchug.gif

i was thinking about the memory foam idea as well. and i am pretty sure we have the same fabric store chain here so i will check them out this weekend. I am going to try and get these ready so that when my kits come from 914rubber i am ready to cover them.
I wonder if the side bolsters material could be made with an inch or 2 extra so that i could add extra thick foam on them. idea.gif

I drove it to the county clerk's office while the new owner of my 1976 VW Westy followed me for a change in ownership (of the Westy). Hated to see the Westy go (I've owned it for more than 25 years), but I never drove it anymore, it sold it for $9k, and that gives me a nice lump to invest in my 914 (and other air cooled German sporty cars).

Long live the air-cooled 2.0l!

I drove the piss out of Speedy today, and I must say that I really like the rear sway bar. Having just the front one in is better than without it, but with both installed, in my opinion, the handling is superior. The jury is definitely "in" on that one, and I freaking love it.

Who said rear sway bars weren't any good? ….Hello?

Wrong.

Wrong.

I suppose it would be easy to pop the lower links off where they mount to the shock bolts to quickly compare the difference between having just the front, or both. I never drove my car with just the front but the difference with bars was pretty substantial.

I swapped out angle drives on my speedo drive in the rear and the speedometer finally woke up. I can't seem to figure out what is/was wrong with my original drive, I can't make it "not work" off of the car, but for whatever reason, it won't work on the car. Weird.

I started to put metal back that had been "moved out of the way." The surgery started months ago with removal of the driver side jack point and continued with removal of cancer along the driver's inner long. After repair and replacement with good steel, an extra layer of (male) stiffness enhancing longitudinal from the donor car was overlaid, with its jack point attached. So now, back goes the sill piece and a small section of the rear quarter panel.Click to view attachment

And then, more stiffness enhancement from the donor car will be installed over the driver compartment longitudinal. The inner and outer firewall need about 1/2 inches of repair for about 8 inches inward. Some new floor pan, and the jack donut plate, and then the suspension stiffening kit back in the wheel well will finish just the driver side. Then repeat on the passenger side with a new battery tray. Hell hole solid, bottom of frame not!

I've been spending the last several weekends tuning with a friend. Mostly learning a helluva lot. ITBs are a challenge, but I couldn't get anywhere until we solved the O2 wideband sensor and PLX module issue with the Megasquirt. AFRs are now stoichiometric for the first time!! aktion035.gif And then a massive thunderstorm hits. dry.gif

Drove the /6 to Alices for lunch yesterday and flogged it hard on the backroads afterwards. The car developed a major chatter when taking off in first gear. Pulls good in all gears and shifts fine but chatters on take off. Car was hot. Oil was seeping backwards. Not sure if I got oil on clutch disc, or what. I adjusted the clutch today and also found that one of the transmission mounts bolts was loose by 3/16". Tightened the bolt and the chatter is still there. Thoughts? ??

I started the car this morning, for the first time in a month! piratenanner.gif aktion035.gif

In the past three days, I have replaced the rest of the pushrod seals (passenger side), readjusted the valves, installed the new exhaust and most of the heater parts and replaced the rear brake hoses and hard lines on the trailing arms.

The driver's side hard line must have broken at some point, but instead of replacing it with a new line, the DAPO spliced the hard line back together with a double-ended compression fitting, and that's what was leaking. I'm a little surprised it lasted as long as it did, glad it didn't fail on my trip back from Ohio.

Sure! Thanks! The build thread is over on another site that used to have more traffic but has died out over the past couple years. Well, except for Balljoint and his many personalities ... laugh.gif

Anyway, the build thread is on the forum at ClubNARP.com in the "Garage" forum, under the thread, "Start of a Beautiful Build" ... I've been meaning to convert that thread to some sort of documentation of my car's build since it is rather unique in many ways. shades.gif

Finally fixed one of the trunk hinges with the fancy J-west part. Getting off the torsion springs was fun part. Drilling 4 holes with a flexible drill extension was also fun! I fund it is better to get the both side springs off in the 1 st place in order to achieve decent trunk alignments. I was too lazy to change the other side since it is still holding up nicely so far. smile.gif

It is cloudy and under 100F in Phoenix so I took it for a drive to Saguaro Lake. A couple in a 997 Carrera S gave me thumbs up on the freeway. Don't think I've ever had a water cooled guy do that. Now it's back under the cover until October.

What did I do today? Abe (abes914) came by the shop to pick up a clutch package, so I figured that I'd hang out there for a while.

Found a bunch of other parts that I forgotten all about - some I'll keep, and some will be up for sale, so loaded up those (mostly 914) parts to take to the GR&B Swap Meet.

Maybe I'll have a chance to fire up the 'BB' tomorrow and take a little drive before all the holiday travelers get back in town driving.gif
