And after the picnic at Doheny, I set the dwell angle and put a slight advance spin on the dizzy to get the beast back in working order.

The backfire and rumble are a (temporary) thing of he past and the lovely wife (who went on the test drive up Newport Coast Road) is a happy person... it is amazing how a slightly out of tune ignition system makes for some really bad tunes / top and backside..........

We met a devout BMW couple at the picnic that said the Cars and Coffee in Aliso Viejo on Saturday at 7-9 is devoid of 914's... not one......... therefore, Susan and I will be there this coming Saturday at 7:30ish. any takers? Larmo?......... anyone?...........

Regardless, it will be another potential start to a Saturday morning drive... Start at C&C, meet some nice car-people, then depart as a group to a drive from Aliso to points undetermined at this point.

Eddy's machine would be a hit with the crowd at C&C. Weight to power ratios and all...........

I took the wife out for a nice cruise. Went by a furniture store (for her) and then to lunch at Martin's West for Scotch Eggs and Lamb burgers. Yum!

And then... dry.gif

Engine stalled out in Redwood City. Would start run and then dump into limp mode. Over and over. It made it about 6 blocks, stalling all the way until it gave up the ghost. I checked the ODBII codes and had a misfire P1639. After a few minutes noticed my battery disconnect switch was malfunctioning. Then I lost all power.

Looked for tools and found a pair of channel locks and a saw blade. That's it... sad.gif
I used the "tools" to remove the battery switch and hot wire the cables together. MacGyver style... It started and ran great! Hauled ass 40 miles home and parked it.

Need: New battery disconnect switch, Positive battery terminal, tool bag in car!

Well ... the hydraulic clutch system didn't work as well as we hoped dry.gif ... so Kent & I removed most of the components and attempted to revert back to the OEM designed system.

We were almost finished, but unfortunately, the clutch cable tube decided today was the day to bust a move bootyshake.gif

If that weren't bad enough, the cable frayed and caught on something in the tunnel as we attempted to pull it back out. So the 'BB' got to meet 'AAA' ...

Odd, my wifes grandmother came by the house last weekend saying that her car kept dying randomly. I started it up, and let it run, went to check the battery cable and moved the box covering the battery and it died... The positive battery cable had the bolt completely removed and half of it broken off, it was just sitting on top the terminal...

Your story reminded me of this smile.gif

Hey neighbor! Are you painting the car yourself or prepping the car and having a shop paint it?

Crappy gas and not driving it enough = 3 totally plugged accelerator jets. . cleaned the idle jets while i was at it. . Starts a lot easier now. . .
Yeah, I know. . I'll start driving it more often rather than doing so much Concour stuff. .

Rewired H4 100w/55w headlights with 2 12gauge wires coming from the battery into a small 4 terminal fuse box. Ran all new 14 gauge wire from separate relays to the headlights with ceramic plugs. Soldered all connections. What a pain in the ass! head_hurts_kr.gif

I have been thinking of mixing up the look of my car as I am getting bored of the same after 9+ years of owning it. I have no plans of painting it any time soon but think I am going to try a Brumos tribute look for the car. My thought is that the stripes are completely reversible and will not keep me from changing it again in a couple of years. Today I bought $5.00 worth of vinyl tape and ghetto tested the look. I think I am going to order 12" wide with a 1 1/8"gap in between the two stripes.

Does the spacing and stripes look correct for sizing?

With the advice and coaching from several members I finished the mock-up of the front hood fuel door. It's a Mustang 6 1/4" door mounted to a plate that is attached under the hood so the fuel door appears flush. The plate the fuel door attaches to is bonded to the hood by 6 small rare-earth magnets. Real strong.

Color matched the fuel door cover; waiting for rubber trim, and exploring a better underhood support.

Thanks to iamchappy, Larmo63, Forrest Haag, and 914Geezer, you guys rock.

I took a 914 work break when I had a request from a member of "Street Outlaws" for another car they are building. It's for a Grand Marquis , similar to the Crown Vic. Special set of fakey Zoomie exhaust headers that will stick out of the hood.

A few days ago, southbound on I5 just past Weed, CA (motto: I Love Weed!) my car starts to get buffeted by a semi I was passing. Then it started to slow down big time, losing speed and rpm's. After a few hundred yards (seconds at hwy speed) I pull over to have a look. Tire blowout but I did not hear or feel anything, even with the top off. Maybe the earbuds with Bob's "Punky Reggae Party" was too loud.

Yes, tilting the car on it's side made the tire change quicker.
