A few days ago, southbound on I5 just past Weed, CA (motto: I Love Weed!) my car starts to get buffeted by a semi I was passing. Then it started to slow down big time, losing speed and rpm's. After a few hundred yards (seconds at hwy speed) I pull over to have a look. Tire blowout but I did not hear or feel anything, even with the top off. Maybe the earbuds with Bob's "Punky Reggae Party" was too loud.

Yes, tilting the car on it's side made the tire change quicker.

You're lucky that it didn't appear to cause any damage. I've only ever had one, and it sounded like a shotgun going off in my left ear (of course it was the L/F on the Vanagon with the window down)

Did you buy this after getting a Payday Loan in the office behind you in this picture? I imagine they have some real easy terms for that loan! Ha ha ha!

Funny! No for some reason the seller requested cash wink.gif
I requested 12 easy payments of 91.4$ but I've heard you miss one payment and they take you out at the knoeesthe

After McMark suggested I install zerk grease fittings today at the BBQ, I decided to bite the bullet and install them. Seems to have cured my hard bushing groan/squeak. Really the car was transformed...rides so much better...like I installed softer springs.

Don't know why I didn't do this earlier. Super easy

It's a good thing I don't have the 1.7 badge on the back, because she is back on her wheels as a short stroke 1911cc! Just a few odds and ends, and she will be back on the road/track. driving.gif

My kids were dragging their feet about heading to the beach tonight so I left them at home. Kathy and I drove over on highway 17 through Santa Cruz and then up highway 1 to Pescadero. Dinner at Alice's in Woodside. From Alice's to Saratoga I played with a Subaru BRZ up to the speed limit. Those cars sure do handle well.

But then a red 914-6 shows up on my tail...

So I follow him to his favorite beach hangout, and I meet George.

His is a 1970 that he has had for 30 years that was originally orange, now red. He upgraded to a 1973 2.4L six. Not a member here, but I told him to check us out.

I also saw a black 914 northbound on HWY1 around 3pm, but I passed by Alice's around 4:30pm, which was too early for dinner.

Nice day for a Sunday driving.gif

Drove it today with my wife.

Well my wife ask me if we can use the 914 for a few trips here in Orange county this morning. She told me also that she did ride with me on this car 3 times only since 2011 and today will be the 4th. Hhhmmmm she was counting how many times!!!

Well I told her okay since today was her last day from summer vacation as a teacher and yes we did went to few places and while heading home and half mile away from exit, a small stone (maybe) that came from a truck infront of us hit my windshield.

Is anyone can share a thread about a good home service windshield replacement here in SoCal and that will install back the chromed trim? Hope Sir Lawrence (Larmo63) who did a windshield replacement lately can share his experienced.

Thanks!

Yehey! Hagerty approved my claim for windshield replacement and for the chrome trim clip for a total of $297. No deductible on my policy.
Thanks Jim H for the referral of Rufino to replace the windshield and Lawrence for confirming the parts I will need.

Call Rufino at L & R Glass. He's really good and done a ton of 914s.

Thanks Sir Jim! Hoping I can reimburse/claim with my Hagerty Insurance which I don't have any deductible on my coverage.

I spent some time researching Hydraulic clutch components for the 'BB' over the passed couple of days.

CB Performance sells a CNC# 6076 7/8" slave cylinder specifically designed for VW T-1 transaxles for $65. I've noticed some folks on the board here appear to have employed them on 914s with success confused24.gif

Still not sure which M/C I'll need, but I've also seen folks utilizing Porsche 928 M/Cs, which are available new on ebay for $80.

The foot-well is already modified for an additional M/C, the reservoir is mounted and the supply line is in ready to hook up for when I obtain the appropriate M/C.

Any input from you guys who have completed successful installations will be greatly appreciated pray.gif

Kept up the tradition and drove my daughter to her first day of school. She's a junior and I only have 1 more remaining....unless I get to drive her to college too!

Been our tradition since I got the SIX finished. Worth taking the whole day off, as I cannot replace these days and will not miss them. Soon all the kids will be gone and the house quiet.

Also removed the barrels to check the pistons, rings and rod play.

Now, off to search for a couple of good used studs, two good two barrel nuts and a few new exhaust port studs*... (and my ring compressing tool). Then I can install the new lower deflector plate*, new push rod tube seals, new head washers* and new o-rings* as needed ... (* all of these items weren't installed when the PO put this motor together) screwy.gif

euro911
Yes. It's a cheap old T-1 VW stand I've had since the 70's. A 912 motor is similar in weight with a T-1, so it does the trick. I wouldn't use one of these for a T-4 sad.gif

After my windshield was hit last monday and made a crack in the middle, yesterday started removing the chrome trim and today I was able to remove the windshield and cleaned the left butyl seal. Now it shows the original copper metallic around the windshield frame. But I'm glad no rust and now ready for new windshield installation.
Also I have to order new chrom trim clip, lower windshield to dash rubber seal and double side adhesive tape for the rearview mirror.

Hi Guys,

I have been plugging away at my car and have taken the trailing arms and rear suspension off.... now sandblasted and painted... the arms not the shocks etc. I have since taken the CV's apart, cleaned them up and will begin reassembly this weekend with new boots for all. Felt good to get it done. Once I am done with this... I am on to the wiring... it will be a challenge to say the least.

I would like to remove as much as possible re Injection as it was a single carb before I bought it years ago and I now have a new Twin Weber setup for it.

I will have to add pics just to prove I actually got off my butt.

OK, after speaking with a tech rep at Summit, Wilwood's recommended clutch M/C bore for the 260-1333 slave cylinder is the same (.750")

I already have the slave cylinder on the way from another source (that was $20. less than Summit), so I just finished ordering the remainder of components a few minutes ago smile.gif

switch the tires/wheels of the 71 project with an older tires so it will not damaged the tires on the pedrini wheels while sitting inside the garage.

Well, I removed and replaced the shift rod, I hooked up the throttle cable, I re installed the breather, dismounted the old tires and mounted 4 new ones, then I let the LE down off the lift and fired that bitch up and driving.gif drove it for the first time in over a year. It used to have a bad wheel bearing, but apparently running without a muffler will fix the roaring of a bad wheel bearing.

Discovered Spidertown in the '74 when I took out the front wheel well liners. Did that to remove the front bumper, to swap in Pilot driving lights for the factory fogs. Swapped the stub/vertical bracket from the originals, but I'm guessing they'll still be too low - I found several threads, one of which included Demick's bracket doc (index.php?showtopic=140554).

Also ordered some Hella H4 55/60W headlights, which Amazon says will be delivered Monday - Labor Day - which will be... interesting. (EDIT: Sunday's delivery of motor oil did arrive around 11:20AM, FWIW.)

The lighting upgrades have me thinking about relays for both of those, and for the starter. Preferably something with a push-to-start option, which several have mentioned (pic of Tom's version: index.php?s=&showtopic=224542). I sometimes have failure to start - not always hot weather, so maybe an ignition switch issue... Either way, a secondary keyswitch-pushbutton would be nice.

Finally tapped the stripped oil drain hole on my '74. (index.php?showtopic=263579) - so far so good, we'll see if there's a puddle in the morning... unsure.gif

Also cut the head off a stripped headlight retaining ring screw so I could install one Hella H4. Will have to take more care with the second headlight - one screw's rotted away, and the other two are rusted and stripped, so I imagine I'll be using the hacksaw/Dremel and drill, and then carefully sizing replacements.
