Took the '73 for a quick errand to the nearby Safeway, found a shady spot in the back 40... noticed it was shifting funny on the way, trouble finding first. By the time I left Safeway couldn't get first or reverse which made it a little interesting gettting it back in the garage.
Started checking things- second thing was in back under the plastic cover- found the problem pretty quickly!

Pelican here I come...

Fresh paint. Testing my skills on the engine lid. Yahoo.

Working on this now myself. What a pain trying to get paint in all those nooks and crannies. How did you do it?

forrestkhaag
In my garage paint job, my son and I used a spotting gun for the little nooks and undersides of insides and outs. The smaller cup allows short blasts of low volume paint and at times upside down...

I learned a few things about painting two stage epoxy based paint systems: The car looks great from ten feet away but try driving it from ten feet away... The primer systems today are fantastic and do not come off of skin for days.. and....

Let a professional do it........

I did, however, get some more done on the 912 motor. Getting closer ...

Lost my car key some where at Rennsport. headbang.gif headbang.gif headbang.gif

Luckily enough we had a family friend pick up a spare key from the house in San Jose and drive it out to the track. Kathy and I owe her big time for bailing us out.

If you had one of these.....IIRC, you can pick one up at OSH

Than you could call me to find where you hid it poke.gif

I've already ordered replacement blanks that I will have cut at OSH. Maybe while I am there I'll get the hide a key. I do seem to be there often. biggrin.gif

New blanks and key chain arrived. Drove the 914 to hardware store and had blanks cut. The new keys work great. biggrin.gif

drove it to work again today. Done nearly 1000kms in the last month commuting in it. Behaving nicely.
A couple of weeks ago I got to slap my new shifter together. So far it is amazing. Need to adjust the lever position but it is great to have spring centring between the shift planes. Now that I know it works I'll make it properly in ally and beaten up the interior a bit.

got it a new stable mate. sold the 77 930 and bought an 07 997. Porsche engineers have been busy and effective in that 30-year period. The new one is a better fit for what I need and I always have the six for when I want to kick ass.

Watched the BB get a mother nature bath yesterday pat.gif

Got a bit more done on the '68 BIG-BORE 912 motor last night. Had to change out the generator (the one that came with this motor) ... it had the wrong (flat) backing plate ('pie pan') and the belt pulleys were out of alignment dry.gif Ended up using the one from the '66 with the dished/recessed mounting.

It's getting close to completion ... need to run the front J-pipes to a muffler shop to have some extensions welded on

Found out why my 1.8 was stalling at idle: a disconnected vacuum hose! Bought a new one at my FLAPS and voila! I am once again on the road.

Anyone else sell a precut vacuum hose kit besides AA?

Washed the road grime off after 1000+ miles from Colorado to Ocean Beach CA. First long road trip in the -6 in more than 20 years. Need to get some pics out on Point Loma to confirm knocking off the first of the post-refurbishment "drive it to the four corners of the continental U.S." bucket list.
Lots of blue highway on the way out, including Bryce Canyon and Zion, Lake Mead National Recreation Area and along to Colorado River from Vegas to Blythe, then south to the 8. But sad to see only two other Porsches on the road during two 500-mile days, a late model Turbo on the 15 west of Mesquite and a Cayman just after pulling off the interstate to head toward Lake Mead. And only one other late model curbside in OB. Guess the marque is more garage art these days.
What would Ferry say?
