I installed the ignition key switch and housing that I received from fellow forumite Cabinetmaker. Things went smooooooothly with the aid of the Pelican Parts' 'How to...'

I took an iPad into the garage and followed the step by step guidance.

One advice though, not mentioned on the Pelican pages: behind the steering wheel, there's a cover holding all electrical parts. It's secured by a allen screw. The housing itself can slide forward and aft for about 8mm, 1/3 of an inch. When securing the allen screw, do a trial fit with the steering wheel to be sure that the contacts of the s/wheel and the housing touch each other.

The car as it was this morning:

IPB Image

I'll be adding side decals tomorrow: matt orange 'PORSCHE' with a 'Heuer Chronograph' decal in the same matt orange color. The car needs a respray in the future. Until that day, I am going to make use of the car's flaws and adapt an 'outlaw'-ish' style.

Not sure about the front and rear bumber, though... body color or also matt orange...

Menno

I have to tell you, I wouldn't do anything to this. It looks clean and pure. Great looking car.

Thank you for your positive comment. Point is that the paint on the car looks good from at least this distance! Come closer and you can see the orange peel, the sanding marks under the paint etc.

So for the time being, this is how I want to use this 'disadvantage' as a vantage!

Now with matt orange side decal - until the respray is up (can take a few years)

Had a great day for a drive. On the way home I had 5 "thumbs up", and several more rol down their windows to say nice car and one more who pulled up next to me to say nice car and "what year is that", and another who pulled up to tell me great 914, and he races 944's come by the shop some time.
I have not had the car draw that much attention before in one day! Must be because I put the W.A.S. Top on biggrin.gif

driving.gif Took it out for a spin through the foothills. Other than being totally gutless on the hills, it was pretty fun on the twisties through the canyon.

Now, I'm thinking of sending to the guys at Patrick Motorsports for a 3.6L conversion! idea.gif

A friend came by the shop to help fix some broken stuff welder.gif

He welded a set of new rear stabilizers on my trailer (the PO must have driven off with the original ones in the deployed position ... can see where a set used to be) dry.gif

... and fixed a tear in a 911 rear engine mount bar

I also had a set of 912 J-pipes extended by a local muffler shop a few days ago, so since I had the grinder handy, cleaned up their [uh, not-so-perfect] welds wacko.gif

drove it and parked beside this very classic car! Was not able to sneak on it since all windows are open and If something was stolen, they
may blame on me. See there is even a police car parked infront of us. Is this grandpa's car is a bait for someone? hhhhmmmm

Finally got the rear trunk shox installed today.

I was kinda scared to put the torsion springs back in there so this was the only solution.

I don't have to carry my grandma's bloom in the trunk anymore...

Had the starter in my '74 replaced today with a high torque starter. Hoping it will fix the hot-start problem I have been experiencing. The "original" starter turned out to be a Bosche rebuilt starter.

Changed the head light relay since the 40+yrs old one(date stamped 2 72) has been dead since last year. The new relay from the bird has an extra contact(#30) so needed a wire mod. Also added a fog light flasher module I guess it's from J-west. This is so cool! Now the fog lights can be used no matter where the head light switch position is. Furthermore, it can be flashed with the hands still on the steering wheel.
DavidSweden
Started the modifications to the rear swing arms to mount 911 E brake.

Started fall project of replacing control arm bushings and installing turbo tie rods. I actually removed the control arms over the weekend, along with crossmember. I finally
got the driver's side inner tie rod removed from the steering rack. I'd like to beat the engineer who designed that tie rod with said tie rod! In the end, a big ass screwdriver was the king..... smash.gif .....only one more to go!

I don't know how the discoloration got into the fenders, but they wouldn't come clean no matter what I tried on them confused24.gif

So today, sanded the rusty head-pipe and hit it with 2000° black BBQ paint, then sanded some of the plastic body parts and painted them with Rustoleum Sunburst Yellow (white was too boring)

Painting the rear fender tomorrow, but the last item, the fuel tank, is going to take a lot of prep time before it gets painted.

Then the motor will come out, the frame will get stripped, reinforced and repainted (low-gloss black) aktion035.gif
