I see you're already prepared for the impending oil change on it in the morning biggrin.gif

I picked up the 'new' [to me] 2056 from FedEx this am. Got it over to the shop and hoisted it up onto an engine stand. That's about all ...

Sir Mark, if you're available tomorrow morning, to hang out with us before Thomas and his wife live and drive this car to Ohio.

Well, my new 2056 is scheduled to be delivered to the local freight terminal later today smile.gif ... so in preparation, I started fabricating a template for a rear engine mounting bar. This is what I came up with (so far) ...

I still need to determine exactly where and how to mount the side tubes - weld them directly to the bar, or weld the tubes to adjustable plates bolted to the bar (allowing for fine-adjustment) confused24.gif

Even though this mock-up is in the '67, I decided to install the T4 motor in my '66 912, and the '68 912/616 motor will go into the '67 (after some underbelly repairs) sawzall-smiley.gif & welder.gif

Earlier in the day, I shot the [recently extended] J-pipes for the '68 616 motor with some of that 2000° BBQ paint.

I promise to do some work on a 914 soon rolleyes.gif

Mark, you should probably be posting this over at Type4 Forums. There have been a lot of Type 1 to 4 conversions documented there. One very clever one using 7/8" turn buckle adjusters. No welding required.

Yesterday morning pick up Thomas and his wife from their hotel. Then started to do the change oil/filter, adjust clutch, install speedo angle drive of the 73 1.7 they bought here in SoCal. Few nice 914 owners or member came to join us. Jim, Abe and Bob. And finally I was able to drive for the 1st time a 914-6 of Jim's car, a real blast car!!

Yesterday afternoon, the couple started their journey to check some SoCal places and drove to Vegas for their 1st nyt stop. And this morning they are currently in Arizona area. This couple will do a few days trip heading home to Ohio with their newly purchased 73.

Take care always Thomas and Karah-Lyn!
Enjoy and God bless your journey/trip!

Excellent. I personally do not appreciate the BUBS and love to see these cars correctly converted to early bumpers.

Eric and his crew do very nice work. No surprise really if you know Eric and have seen his cars.

Congratulations on having this work done. Your car is going to be a head turner.

day before thanksgiving 11/26/15

my 74 2.0 teener is silver. I love it.

2 weeks prior to taking off muffler i oiled it everyday so bolts/screws would not break.

took off muffler because it had been painted installed on vehicle a couple of times.
I took it off and sanded it, wire brush. patched it in a few places (especially around the seam and edges.)

it is an original. i wanted POR-15 high temp paint but.. settled for VHT paint in a spray can. it worked and looks awesome...

I also took off the rear bumper and bumper top because it was starting to rust and did not look beautiful. they are both being Powder coated. On my 356 I had my luggage rack and original ski rack powder coated chrome... and looks awesome.

so the bumper parts will be "black matte" and will look absolutely awesome.
(can you tell I am a Boston person)

when i get those back I intend on taking the front pieces in and then I will take pictures and share with the group

I just got my nails done for thanksgiving but my autos are more important.

enjoy your holidays.

Hey. I am new to this 914 thing but loving it so far. My son and I are working on a '74 1.8 that was stripped by the POs. Solid body. Driveable but needs lots of TLC. And a registration ...
Today we reinstalled the speedo drive with a new seal and o ring. Filled the transaxle with swepco 201. Got it back on the ground but no luck with starting. Funny because a few weeks ago it ran fine. It is getting cold in MA so maybe need to reconnect the e-choke??
All good fun.

On Thanksgiving day I ran the 914 over the hill to Santa Cruz with my kids. We sat 3 wide in the car stopping to see the butterflies at Natural Bridges, a stop at Steamers Lane, and down the wharf since parking was free.

Nope! But I bought them off a user on this site who sold them because they did not fit his Gia, so I was expecting to have to roll or mod the fenders . But they fit, even when I put on the bilstein HDs and adjustable coils which lowered the rear a bit, still no rubbing. confused24.gif
euro911
Glad to see they worked out for you. The rears rubbed on my wife's '71 - go figure WTF.gif

... and I didn't purchase the Ghia until a couple of hours after you bought the wheels headbang.gif ... laugh.gif ... Oh well, worse things have happened in my life screwy.gif

I installed a new Bursch exhaust system on a 912 motor and set it aside to perform some prep work on the 'new' 2056 FAT motor.

I removed the '75 style head pipes, cleaned them up and hit them with 2000° BBQ paint. Then reinstalled them backwards to see how well they fit and figure out what needs to be fab'd up for a 911 banana muffler installation.

When I pulled the head pipes, I noticed there weren't any air deflectors under the cylinders, so it looks like I need to pull the heads dry.gif ... luckily, I have some spare deflectors that are already blasted and painted, sitting on the shelf.

I need to rethink how to mount this motor in a 912. The original method I planned on won't work with the minimal clearance between the case and the fan belt sad.gif

If I can shim the crank pulley and move the 911 fan away from the case another 1/2" or so, my original plan will work. If not, I'll have to fab a cradle type mount, similar to the original 912E mount.

My roof was looking a little tired so I repainted it with Black Plasti-Dip. It came out looking great! The color is even and the texture is close to the sail panels.
I'd used Plasti-Dip on my Audi grill in the past and really like the stuff.

Thanks to Noel's help, I made it home last night after Karah-Lyn and I traveled the 2600 mile journey home from LA.

Still trying to get my new to me '74 1.8 single carb conversion started. Was going to check points and learned I have a Pertronix setup. Sounds old fashioned that it was a surprise, I know. Anyway, will try again tomorrow. bye1.gif

I sold out by picking up the 6 conversion from the shop which installed a real 6 tranny (not the modified 4 it was running around with) because it needed a new ring and pinion. Getting the lash correct is an art form - and since I suck at art....

Also found that the driver's side heater flapper box was toast which was replaced. Now warm and toasty and my ears can stop ringing.

I will be replacing the front pads on the early S calipers to hopefully get more bite and less squeal.

Drove the '73 down the coast and back with my 16-year-old daughter. Beautiful day. As always, met a few peeps that wanted to talk 914.

The '74 is stalling out when warm and coming to a stop, like at a traffic light. Maybe just cranking up the idle will help. I'll give that a shot.

Lawrence (Larmo) stopped by the shop for a while today - grabbed some fiberglass flares & rockers to try out. Also gave him a good 911 2.0L head for the motor he purchased from me a couple of months ago (they found a water-pitted head upon dis-assembly).

Then I set out to fabricate a new mounting bar template for the 2056/912 project. This one would use the original lower mount locations, but after having to cut to clear too many obstacles, I didn't feel it would be strong enough, so I scrapped it dry.gif

I went back and remounted the first template I made last week, added a spacer between the fan hub and the crank pulley, and moved the 911 fan assembly further out from the cradle it sits in. Looks like the fan belt clears the bolts holding the mounting bar much better now mueba.gif ... will get some longer bolts for the pulley and put that issue to rest. Next ... cut a new bar from 1/8" mild steel aktion035.gif
