Installed a new AFR gauge and and an upgraded stereo, plus ran a new 14 gauge wire for hi power relays to run 80w/100w halogen bulbs.

Click to view attachmentPut a little over 500 miles on her today. top off and cruising interstate and backroads of VA. Not a hint of problems other than the TPS which I will replace when I get some time. Nice to drive it trouble free as it makes me want to continue to poor money into the abyss. My daughter ran a facebook naming contest and "WICKED" was the final pick. So, my white 911 is named SUGAR and the 914 is WICKED.

Yesterday, I installed the new .60 idle jets and some freshly-painted side grilles.

Also refreshed the rear targa clamps ... and managed to fling one of the springs into the next world dry.gif

This morning, Richard preformed the timing and tuning procedures ... then I took it out for a quick test drive driving.gif

Runs smooth, great acceleration cheer.gif

It's back up on jack stands now ... need to stop an oil leak from the base of the oil pressure sender and readjust the clutch, and figure out why the fuel and oil temp gauges aren't working confused24.gif

I'll check the condition of the front wheel bearings and brake pads while it's up in the air again shades.gif
euro911
Painted my rear valance ... will install on Wednesday. Installed a carbon/kevlar patch to fill the gaping A/C condenser hole in the front trunk, wrapped teflon tape on the oil pressure sender to fix the oil leak, replaced a couple of burned out side marker lamps, installed the engine lid and targa top, then drove to my shop class.

Drained the break-in oil, put Brad Penn 20/50 and a new filter in and lowered the front end about 1.5" ... handles (and looks) much better ... eliminated a crawling yaw feeling while in a turn.

I can't figure out why the H/Es look rusty in all my pix confused24.gif ... they're clean as a whistle blink.gif

Also, replaced some burned out lamps in the dash & console gauges with Mikey914's LED lamps ... what a difference biggrin.gif

My Mahle wheel caps were pretty much beaten up. I replaced them with 914rubber’s solid aluminum wheel caps. Made a big difference. Also repacked front wheel bearings since I had wheels off.

Sanded the engine lid to bare metal and primered. Hopefully the car will be primered before it gets too hot down here to work outside.

More carb work today. Changed main jets again. It's tough getting this thing dialed-in dry.gif

Front valance was scraping too many speed bumps, raised the front suspension back up a little (pic is prior to raising it back up)

you need an A/F meter mark. it will make you jetting a snap. plus, i have a great procedure to dial it in sweet. but you need the gauge first. and then you wil be smilie_pokal.gif smilie_pokal.gif smilie_pokal.gif

Hmmm ... idea.gif ... I will definitely look into that, Doug. It has two different issues. Exhaust tips were dark black and it smelled rich, but the plugs indicated it was running lean with .145 mains, .180 corrections and .50 idles. We went to .60 idles, then went to .155 mains, then back down to .150 mains confused24.gif

It seems fine if I slowly bring up the RPMs, but sputters when I mash down on the pedal. I'll double check the float levels and accelerator pump jetting next.

I stopped to fill up on the way home from the shop tonight and the gas station attendant abandoned his post to come check out the car ... said he hadn't seen a 914 in a long time.

He had read the recent Hemming's article on 914s and thought my car looked to be worth $15k blink.gif
Here's the article, if you haven't seen it yet: LINK

idea.gif I'll have to stop in there again if I decide to sell it laugh.gif

Looks like our take off time for Havasu has been postponed (until around noon-ish), so I might have some to install the rear valance after all cheer.gif ... looks kind of naked without it

Going to get the car on the road today after a long winters nap..

Since my new muffler setup exits on the wrong side of the car for the stock valance, I had a rather large gaping whole on the driver side of the valance that was very unpleasing to the eye. so, I decided to weld it up. And while the bumper and valance were off the car, I went ahead and cleaned up underneath everything.Click to view attachment

euro911
I received the 6-fuse kit from Tom, and Engman's fuse box, but they're sitting at home and I'm on vacation here in Havasu piratenanner.gif

I did find the time to install the dual outlet valance this morning, but no time to take any pix screwy.gif

EDIT 3/27/12: Here's a pic from Havasu (the valance did tidy up the back end a bit) smile.gif

Well, figured I'd show the completed valance all painted and installed on the car. Oh, and installed a new radio face plate on the dash. Now the basket weave finally looks continuous.

Installed my new Engman fuse panel, new plugs, Oil change, new Magnecor wires, couple of new front signal bulbs, 5 gals of 94 Octane gas and tried to start the beast after over a year.
No go on the first battery charge, checked the new fuel lines under the tank.....Kinked...fixed. Tried again....still no joy. chair.gif

Then I heard the gas tank gurgling...good news= Air out, gas in!!!!
Tried again and she started up, lumped along for a few seconds and died. smilie_pokal.gif Charging battery again for a final attempt for the day.zorro.gif

Making real good progress. Rory G. came over last week. He did the push rod tube seals, installed the exhaust, and we got it running after 9 months on jackstands! Put on the rear wheels today, along with tidying up the fuel lines and securing the pump. Will be on the road this comming week. Just have to install the front pan, and front wheels. Likely will pull the distributor at some point, to replace the points, condensor, and plugs.

I forgot how great these roads are! driving.gif I'll PM you when and If I get it up here (and running again, broken clutch tube) and I'll use you as an excuse to cruise up to Clayton. I installed the tranny CV flange seals and the driveshaft seal up front. Had to dig out the chunks of the front seal by taking off the housing cover and fishing the bits out. Replaced the large O ring on the cover and mated tranny to the motor and now await some help from a buddy to reinstall the motor/tranny package into my 6 conversion project.

Finally upholstered my drivers seat back area that had a huge hole in it. Got the material from A and P and it took me about 2 hours or so to get it done and looks much better...I should have taken some before and after pictures. Interior of my car is really looking good now
