Started digging into my failed clutch tube down the tunnel thing. It was confirmed today when a buddy pushed the clutch in to find out if the tube was moving at the end near the firewall.....moving slightly but it moved. Next I have to gut the interior, pull back the carpet and have at it. headbang.gif

This will become a 2056. I guess I should've asked if a bus engine will work in a 914?? I gotta believe the cases are all the same??

how does one deal with the oil dipstick on a bus case? The bus motor does not have a hole in the center of the top of the case for a dipstick
Larmo63
I'm digging into my new (to me) black '73 2.0. I took the seats out, removed the back seat pad, cleaned, vacuumed in and under EVERYTHING which probably hadn't EVER been out of the car, installed new old stock seat belts, installed Mark's seat adjuster handles, cleaned the seats, and put it all back together again. Installed a pair of his new cowl to fender front seals, rear window to engine lid seal, set the dwell with Forrest, tightened up the header pipes, tore the glovebox out and soaked/reformed it with wood blocks, and switched out the rear view mirror.

Now, I'm drinking a Ketel One vodka tonic. I feel like I deserve it.

Indirectly 914 related, I finally got around to cutting and fitting the final ceiling panel in the trailer (on Tuesday).

Still need to cut and install a section of angle to support it at the rear bulkhead and install the remaining ceiling lights

Was able to open the rear trunk which I was not able to check when I bought this 73 1.7 last Jan. 2 since the battery in there was a dead battery. Well I thought I find a hidden parts but at least the rear trunk looks like this.

As if I didn't already have a full plate, water started leaking into the garage from the rental house above.

I had to tear out a good-sized section the ceiling to expose the mess last night sawzall-smiley.gif

A friend stopped by today and we got part of the problem taken care of ... but made a wise decision to replace all the old cast-iron drain piping with ABS too.

So, I'm off to the Lowe's or Home Depot to pick up all the materials shortly ...

Luckily, there were no cars or cycles (or anything else valuable) parked under there sad.gif

Pulled the motor, started stripping the rear. Goal is new paint on the back half for WCR!

My phone never rang.......

looks like the leak was from the toilet above, bolts loose and the wax ring no longer worked. Cast looks good to me.

BOT I am close to pulling the 75 off the rotisserie and getting it over to you.

Removed the wheels of the 73 recently purchased to bring them to a tire shop and install my old tires for roller.
Not really sure how the 5 lug conversion was made.

Sorry, never thought to bother you, George.

#1 - Leaking shower valve seats - installed new valves.
#2 - Leaking (deteriorated) drain/trap piping - old one had to be cut out with a saws-all sawzall-smiley.gif
#3 - Toilet seal leaking - will be dealt with tomorrow.
#4 - Cast has multiple cracks and rust bubbles forming (not easy to see in the pix), and the old tamped-in joint seals leak ... so I decided just to replace all of it with ABS and never have to worry about it again idea.gif

Our tenant is a family friend's son, and his step-dad is a plumber who lives a couple blocks away, so he was happy to come by and see what we could do to fix it.

I picked up all the ABS stuff at Lowe's, roughly $160. for everything. I'll eventually get around to building a removable soffit to cover the new plumbing when we're done - but this repair should last my lifetime shades.gif

Got the fuel tank out. The old cloth-wrapped rubber hoses from the return line back into the tank were soaked with gas; when I squeezed the hose to clamp it off, gas ran down my hands and arm.

Then what was supposed to be a pretty straightforward and quick removal of the old plastic tunnel lines became a challenge; PO had left the plastic return line in there, but replaced the line going to the engine with some kind of braided-metal-covered rubber hose which was also running through a hard plastic sleeve into an A-N type connector on each end bolted through the firewalls. The rigid plastic "sheath" made it the devil of a job to get free but finally worked it out:

Rubber inside the hose was rotted and weeping gas.

Feeling lucky that I've sorted this all out before disaster struck.

Also as a bonus PO left the original plastic engine fuel line inside the tunnel, clipped at both ends, just floating around in there.

Happy to have this all cleaned up. I feel like I'm finally starting to know this car...

Thanks, I'm really happy with it. I had been planning on moving for a while to get more garage space, but I'm happy where I'm at and found this to be the best solution.

Price tag was $5,842, including tax. I did quite a few upgrades though as it will be my summer workshop. Insulated floor, vinyl siding to match the house, insulated man door and garage door, 30 yr architectural shingles, extra windows.

A bare bones T-111 12 X 20 from the same company will run about $3,800.

A ramp will be added in the Spring. biggrin.gif Just had to get it in there today - standard car ramps did the trick!
euro911
Not bad at all, Bob.

T-111 would be fine for the weather conditions we have out here. I'll have to see if there's any manufacturers out here, to keep transportation costs at a reasonable figure.

I went for a top-off, Central Oregon, sunny 35 degree ride around town after I took off the door panel, cleaned up the roll-up-window mechanism, replaced the crank, and semi-fixed the broken door handle.

I needed to exercised the poor neglected 914 that has been garaged too much this month, after I drove from California to Oregon in 24 degree, snowy weather, when the window crank broke with the window half way down!

Sunny and warm Cali weather, or sunny and cold Oregon weather, either way it is a Top-Off day in the 914'er!
