Damn are you replacing the condenser at the same time or did you put 40K on it last year?

Yes - new condenser each time. To be more clear, the first set I put on last year during the initial work I did on the car was heavily worn after about 10 months (and maybe 2,000 miles) and left me stranded. I could not determine the cause. The second set that was removed this week had a small "mountain" on the contacts so I just replaced them and the condenser for peace of mind. Am contemplating converting to electronic ignition at some point...

Electronic is the way to go. Keep a-spare dizzy with points & condenser in the trunk as a back-up

Definitely go electronic but keep a spare pair of electronic for roadside repairs. I don't recommend carrying a set of points as a replacement unless you also carry a dwell meter and timing light with you.

Today's task / putting in a new speedo cable / third one in the last few months...... routing issues I presume / Bruce Stone relayed a "trick" to run the cable up and over the axels to the upper bolt/nut location on the side of the tranny / then install a cale clamp of the proper diameter to that stud to keep the cable in check / and test the angle drive for ease of rotation. fyi

Do you have any pictures of the cable routing?

Get a complete spare dizzy. Set the dwell and make a timing mark on the case (for cylinder #1) while that dizzy is in the car, then remove it and toss it in your bag-O-tricks in the trunk and install your other dizzy with the Pertronix (or equivalent) electronic system

Well, we didn't quite get finished with the move today. Everything except a 911 motor, a 912 motor (both on engine stands) and an empty engine stand remain and we'll grab those tomorrow morning. Loaded up a T4 2056 motor in the Tacoma ... delivering it to a gentleman in Long Beach tomorrow afternoon.
My painter came by to give us a quote on the body & paint for my wife's '71 914 ('Howard', or Howie' for short). We decided to bring 'Howie' home to do a little more prepping before dropping it off with him. I need to get the local pro windshield guy to come remove the windshield and associated trim too ... I don't want to fuck up the nice brightwork pieces. I'll be removing all the rubber targa and window seals, the rocker panels and the engine compartment lid, etc. within the next couple of weeks.
Also moved my 912 home and my 911 into the Boss Hoss motorcycle storage facility. Need to get an estimate for body work and paint on the 911 soon as well. That will probably eat up a lot of my 401k

I've been attending a few things on my car, new Bruce Stone pedal set installed/adjusted, new ceramic coated header pipes, various vacuum leaks and tune up performed, I want this car to be solid for the upcoming road trips to Arizona and Oregon.
I drove the piss out of it, and it seems great.

Adjisted valves, (used 914 gaskets ... nice)
Changed oil.
Finished refurbishing, welding broken actuator arm, made cable nipples , and installed Flapper Boxes... and I have heat / defrost and just in time for summer ... LOL
Put in new inner window fuzzies . they were apparently a bit "tight" for the window and when I rolled down the passenger side it separated the glass from the mechanism
well disassembled the door, fixed the gasket and glass issue (Clean and good glass glue) and just bent the lip back ever so slightly so the fuzzie touches but doesn't hold.

I too believe that one can drive a square peg into a round hole, given enough force. One method requires a screwdriver while the other requires a tool box and an investment greater than an extra set of Petronix. Either way works, dealers choice.

Made a quick and dirty storage crate for the spare gearbox from the donor car, making sure no weight is on the speedo drive and ready to stack the -6 box on top with some minor additions
Click to view attachment Started stripping the -6
Flipped and mashed hood removed, rear bumper off, front bumper and lower valance removed plus a load of minor stuff bolted in the front boot area. Front cooler opening is as I feared, too narrow (not an issue) but way too tall for the GT cooler

It's all handmade by me.
Materials are cheap, labor is about 3-4 hours of stitching.

Fabricated a heat shield for the relocated fuel pump. It is bolted behind the passenger seat on the firewall. I actually don't have any hot start issues or vapor lock, but made this thing in anticipation of vapor lock. I took a 3 inch diameter aluminum water bottle and cut it up and ventilated it. Actually the major heat source is radiant heat from the passenger side heat valve and maybe some heat rising from the longitudinal conduit that leads up to the passenger footwell. Sorry, the fuel pump is not for sale.

Fantastic! Love it.
FYI: I drove my 914 home today but immediately had a problem...don't copy my mistake. In trying to locate the "primer pump" low and out of the way of the bottom of the tank - I mounted it upside down. Don't do this - they don't work upside down. I wouldn't either so I'm not quite sure why I didn't think of that. Anywho. It won't work that way...

I installed this J West fog light harness that allows me to use my fog lights independent of the headlights. Also, you can flash the fogs with the turn signal stalk. I had this installed on my yellow car and I always liked it. It's super easy to install too, about a half hour job.

Put my Perry Umbrella Cover on the 'BB', since we've got rain in the forecast. I pulled it rearward to cover the engine lid's grille, so's it don't git wet in there
Going to start removing the last few bits on my wife's car (for paint prep), then will try to devote some time to get the hydraulic clutch release system running in the 'BB'
