Fixed/changed the shift bushings on Kathy's bumblebee. She had been complaining that her shifting was bad. I just figured she was comparing it to the shifter in her WRX with a shift kit installed. Well I should have been a better listener because today when I removed the rubber sleeve over the shift coupler near the fire wall one bushing crumbled out on to the garage floor. I guess she was right. Changed today and car shifts great now. driving-girl.gif I bet she'll be happy, but I am sure I'll still hear I told you so.

******update********

Kathy got home and took it for a spin. She rated it a 9.5 out of a 10. She said she is no longer stirring the soup or driving the bus when driving her car and she is happy.

Last night ................ driving.gif driving.gif

Took the wife and did the August SCCA Friday night TSD rally. Come to find out these are trap style rallies and a little over our pay grade for ones first TSD rally. LOL.
Only had to call the Rallymaster once. LOL.
Blew by the first check point without stopping, but scored a 37. piratenanner.gif
It went downhill from there. Final score 937. But we weren't the worst. High score 1238.
Winning score 18.

Absolutely bitch'n roads. Had a ball.
Hint : Read the rule book about 3 times and it would make your first rally a little easier.
Us not, cold turkey.

Installed a lift this AM! Should make working underneath a lot nicer! Now I can install Eric's rebuilt rear brake valve without laying on my back!!!

Finally finished up the rear brake caliper rebuilds using the kit from PMB.

A quick shout out to Eric @ PMB. When I finally tore into the rebuild kit, I realized a couple of O-rings were missing. Eric quickly sent me replacements and also threw in the brake bleeder screws I had mentioned I needed to order. Great service!

Re-installed the rear brake "valve" that Eric rebuilt. The top nut is a PITA to thread with the "valve" and brake lines in the way!! Finally got in and the brakes rebled for the 100th time!
Got to try out the rolling jack that came with the lift- worked slick!!

Now that the sun is almost down (though still 105!) , time to see how the brakes feel...

Stripped most of the rust off the wheels and painted them. They are only temporary but I wanted them to look nicer than they did when I bought the car. One of them is a replacement and is about 2 cm wider than the originals.

The car was missing 2 lug bolts when I bought it. Does anyone have a couple they want to part with? I plan to go with studs eventually but will use the bolts for the early stages of the project.

Noticed a spot under the car.... gasoline smell. Took the car in to MRD Racing (Vista, CA), and they found a leaking fuel line, up front at the access port. Got it fixed, fortunately didn't go up in flames.

Cuda, I assume you have an extinguisher in the car. NEVER go without one! Many years ago I was starting my car in Porsche Park at Road America and it wouldn't start and had a MAJOR gas smell. One of the fuel lines had come loose. Thank God no one was smoking nearby, but I got a Halon extinguisher right after that and have never not had one in any of our vehicles.
Cheap insurance!!!

Good advice The only time I've used mine was on a flaming VW pulled to the side of the road. Some poor guy was yanking off burning parts when I arrived. It was out in less than 8 seconds. Also, read the instructions before using. Most people don't realize there is a correct way to use one. beerchug.gif

To much pre load so I'm gonna put the adjustable arms on and see how it feels.

Hopefully they replaced all of the hoses in the system with SAE-30R9 (or better) hoses.

Got under it and cranked down on my heat echanger bolts. Improved, but a little leaky I think still. Also rigged up some tubing and forced some lube into my new throttle cable. Some folks think its a bad idea, but i went for it. Film at 11.

No work on it directly, I started to put together my new mill to make some parts for it!

Top portion weighs 1100+ pounds, base is 500+ pounds.

I still need to attach the 10 tool ATC and the power drawbar.

I lost a fuel pump in the middle of nowhere... At least I had limited cell service, no calls but I could text and surf the web. The PCA guys stopped and were able to drive ahead to call my wife for rescue. I had set her up with tow bar and gear before I left on the cruise. Took her two hours to get out to me and another two hours to get home... I brought my laptop and diagnostic tools with me so troubleshooting was easy, repair was impossible... Now I need a fuel pump.

I noticed that the passenger side sun visor was hanging a bit low. I got out my trusty stubby phillips and tightened the set screw.

I am pleased to report that after a 45 min test drive including full throttle acceleration, threshold breaking and as many 1 g corners I could find, just like an airplane tray table on Viagra, the previously drooping visor remained in it's full upright position.

Fixed the driver's window. The "button" came off the regulator cable, letting the window fall to the bottom of the track.

Pried apart the teeth a little to give them a better grip on the button

Kind of a fiddly job, but after cleaning the regulator cable and realigning the track it works much better. Not sure how long the old button will last though . . . does anybody ("Mikey"?) make a replacement for the early cars (70-72)?

Also started cleaning up the cockpit after the Engman long-kit install (THANKS Scotty!). Next steps: Ospho, then primer, paint, and put the interior back in.

Lots more to follow . . .

I sold some parts I no longer needed this w/e cheer.gif

I'm leaving for AZ again, but when I get back, I need to finish prepping Dianne's '71 for body/paint, get her motor runnin', head out on the highway, (let's see who gets that one) ... and attempt to install the hydraulic clutch release system in the 'BB'.
