60's in Minnesota today! Mine is up on jack stands for the winter, but today I bled the brakes (I re-built all 4 calipers a few weeks ago) and drained the transmission oil so I can replace some leaking seals. I also started taking apart a 2.0 engine that I picked up over the winter. The 2056 build is about to begin!

Finally getting around to installing new front turnsignal bucket on the driver side. Cleaned up some of the rust and rattle can the paint. I'm installing Euro-type front LED turnsignals. I've had these green LED boards sitting around for a year so I figured I'd at least put one set on my car.

I'll be selling the all-amber LED boards I just took out for next to nothing since they're my first prototype boards.

This past fall a mounting ear sheared/failed on the rear caliper of my track car. Amongst other things the shear stripped the threading on the caliper mounting bolt. Today I finally got it welded up, re-drilled and tapped so that I can mount my new caliper.

Temps in the 60's this weekend so went to roll it out of the garage for its first drive this year. Then I saw it and I remembered the Pennsylvania State Inspection was due last November. I was supposed to go get it re registered for Antique Tags making it exempt from the Inspection and Annual Registration fee's. I have the Title and Documents filled out to go to get this done this week. Going to cost about $75 for this and it's a one time deal, no more Annual fee's for Inspection and Registration ever.

Long week @ Rothsport.
Quick trip to Forest Grove Saturday AM to meet Matt (914 Rubber) to get his front control arm parts that came from PMB. Slapped on the ball joints and installed the rubber bushings after he headed home.

Matt you left the strut pins. They're zip tied to the control arm

Soda blasted Mike's (Warpig) impeller at RS on Friday at quitting time. I see I missed a couple spots. Do Over. I'm thinking I'll give it a coat of clear coat and bake it on with the heat lamps. With's Mike's OK.

Then ran home and started at a timing belt/water pump service on a 2005 Subaru 2.5 DOHC Turbo. Before heading off to a family baby shower/dinner.

Kind of OT but I'm pretty sure with all the conversions I'll see a few Subaru engines in the future.

Today, I finished my 914-6 Carbon Fiber engine "tin" and will post a pic when it is installed on the motor. Also, I shelled my new old fan and installed it with new pulley, shims, and shiny new nut.

Pulled the fuel tank sensor and using tips from here, determined that it is indeed not working correctly. Gets to 1/4 level and stops there. Note to self (and others); if in doubt, always trust the warning light.

Made sure I had a half-tank of gas, pulled the top, and took her out for a little drive. Third week of February in Chicago, and it is sunny, clear, and 67 degrees....

And the icing on the cake; my trip odo which hasn't been reset in at least 20 years, hit this.

Installed some of the new door rubber today. Did the vent wing first and this had to be one of the more frustrating things I.ve done to date.
I almost want to do a seperate thread on this as Mark.s instructions aren.t detailed enough. Without a doubt ot is easier to take the front bracket out when installing it. Also.....DONT forget to put the front teack adjustment nut on BEFORE putting the front window guide rail in........or you will be doing it twice.

Front bracket.

I had to weld the upper captive nut for the armrest. These seem to break on almost every door I.ve seen.

Finally learned how to do a 914 unresection - that front end minus everything may still be available if someone wants to follow the Mexican banjo's ranchero beat to Ryer Island in the Sacramento River delta...

Sorry Mark... How is everyone fairing in Cali? Seems like Mama N is trying to make up for 5 yrs of drought in one season.

I remember rainy season out there, watching torrents of water pouring down from Mulholland to Ventura Blvd, but nothing like this. sad.gif

Yeah, and the impending spring snow melt-off is quite concerning. We're already pretty saturated throughout the state sad.gif

It is a good feeling to stop cutting out and start putting back. That's some major surgery right there. That RD front trunk pan is beautiful - looks like you're still working it, but is it fitting in pretty easily?

It is fitting easily. As they state on the RD site, some adjustment has been necessary, but nothing major. The holes for the headlight drain tubes are undersized, as the original pan had flanges bent downward, but that extra operation is not performed on the new pan. No big deal - I just reamed the holes out a bit to fit.

I do want to stress, though, that without this new pan, I probably would have parted the car out instead of being able to save it. It had pretty extensive front end damage, plus holes for the A/C condenser. It was also beneficial that they sell the triangular stiffening parts and the front suspension mounts. Restoration Design kept another one on the road!

I finished up my Carbon Fiber 911 engine "tin" and bolted it up to confirm fit. Strong as all hell and quite lightweight. Fits perfect. piratenanner.gif

I also made a bracket for the bell crank on the 911 and powder coated and baked it.

You know it sure looks cool...but I.ve always wondered about the thermodynamic properties.

I know it isn.t the cylinder tin but I.m wondering. Does anybody have any data?

I don't think the tin around the engine does any type of heat dispersion. It's there as an air dam to keep the cooling airflow going from top to bottom and from getting recycled just like belly pans on today's cars.

Replaced rear calipers and pads. Asked my wife to assist in bleeding the brakes.

ME: "OK, pump a few times and hold."
WIFE: pump, pump, pump, pump. hold.
ME: Open bleeder. Nothing happens. Close bleeder. "OK, again"
Repeat a few times with same results. Hmmm confused24.gif
ME: "OK, that's all for now. Let me figure out what's going on."
Lowered car and let gravity do the work for a few minutes. Returned to see brake fluid dripping from bleeders. OK, now I know fluid is in the caliper.
Ask wife to come back out to garage to help.
