Replaced thermostat with new one from Awsome Powdercoat. Now, the cooling system works as it should and the engine warms up much faster.
You can see that old leaking thermostat failed in the fully open position. New t-stat below.
Click to view attachment Are those two slightly different; top one has 10 chambers and bottom one appears to have 12 ?
Jim,
It is really just one chamber, different # of "pleats" to the accordion. The thermostat is rated at correct temp for type IV and it works as it should so far...

Mounted the ext oil cooler- Will see if this is enough as I have a fan for it but haven't installed it yet. I know it's hot under there but less plumbing and plenty of space.
Should help just getting some oil to circulate out of the engine...

Click to view attachment Click to view attachmentStu - looks like your oil lines run pretty much parallel with the head pipes. If you don't see a significant amount of cooling, you could install a heat shield above that section of the pipes, or wrap the pipes, or wrap the oil lines ... just a thought.

After relocating the brake valve and brake lines, I installed the Rich Johnson Motor Mount and welded it in / then did some light grinding and seam sealed the unit in to assure no seepage of moisture behind the mount. Piece of cake. His products are very user friendly and support is immediate via email or phone. Today is final measurement on oil lines to and from the front cooler.
Then order the AN-12's and SS line and in it goes. Pictures coming
soon to a theater near you...

Also resealed the tranny and installed the KEP throwout bearing. I hate that little ball-flange behind the throw-out lever / a piece that required either holding the teetering tranny uprignt or a third finger due to the middle one being aimed at the tranny.... This diabolical little nut-festooned pitch fork shaped ball holder was obviously invented by a really sadistic german mechanic who was still wreaked by the USA's saving their collective butts in the 40's............

Click to view attachmentI have found if you go to the "tuner" style wheel shops they are MUCH more attentive to the care of the wheel then drop outs at discount or Evens tire... It seems counter intuitive when you are standing there in a ghetto shop but they actually care and don't bang out stock wheels/tires all day..

As for the Koul Tool above, you can get just the size you need and not all them. I just got the AN10 size tool.
It does work great if you get the right hose ends- I used Russell, some of the other brands do not work with that tool.

How about Earl's brand? Do their fittings work well with this tool? I already bout the Koul-Tool set for AN 6, 8 and 10. I'll use the 6 for fuel lines and the 10 for lines to the oil cooler.

Interesting. What are you using to cut the lines?
My technique is to wrap the line at the slice point very tightly with friction tape ("Rescue Tape"). I then cut it with a chop saw. If I do that then the ends don't fray and I can usually slide it into the end fine. Usually.
I'm working with all sizes from -4 to -12.

In time, yes; i' m keeping it as a backup for now. I think I showed you the custom clam shell Jeff Hines made.
The good news is the car started up !
BTW: After I enlarged the fog light switch hole I test fitted that 911 ignition assembly. It will work without cutting the arm. The steering wheel lock would not work without doing the complete change over

It's magnesium and will corrode if it's not coated with the original cosmolene type stuff or perhaps some good paint. I guess you could clear coat it. That would actually look good I think. Satin finish clear.

Cleaned the tranny and resealed the output flanges and shifter seal. Then reinstalled the Rich Johnson bellcrank and new pulley...
I am going to clearcoat it with wheel paint clear / about as good as one can do on a Mag case.... I also ran garden hose from the front cooler to the Mocal thermostat at the firewall to confirm the two lengths of AN 12 SS braided hose.
One was 139" and one was 141" due to the relationship to the fittings at each end.
