Painted out the trans and boxed up the rest of the parts (clear-coated heat- exchangers, re-painted Bursch exhaust heater, control flaps, speedo cable, throw out bearing, etc.) to go back to the mechanic for the install. Soon to be joined with Forrest's old 2.2L dual carb engine.

Sir, are you still planning to use those 75/76 HE to former Forrest engine?

Yes. I don't want to give up my heat,

Didn't have a lot of time to dick around with the stuck clutch cable today, but made some progress.

I inserted an inspection camera into the tunnel, but wasn't able to find where the front clevis is stuck dry.gif Since the cable showed evidence of fraying anyway, I ended up cutting it at the rear tunnel access hole and removed it and associated components from the firewall rearward.

I really don't want to remove the shift lever mechanism but may need to if I can't snag the remaining piece of the cable dry.gif

Good thing - the cable tube is still securely attached in the tunnel and clear of any obstructions, as I planned to insert the hyd. hose through that tube biggrin.gif

Hey Euro: I need some daily stats on weather in Payson. We are now looking down in the outlands of Scottsdale for acreage. Cali sucks.

Anyway, today I finished my oil system with all 12AN SS braided lines connecting to original 914-6 oil lines for the tank, etc.

I am checking all with a pressure test prior to insertion of the mill on Friday. I am awaiting Perry's fabrication of the wiring harness so that will be the final piece of the puzzle to get to an initial fire up and breakin - if all goes well.

My goal is to have a 6-car I can drive as I did the 2.2L 4. Start it up, warm it up and drive. No pamper in the hamper here. I have owned too many Porsches that had that plague cast upon its doors....

Much thanks to Rich Johnson and Perry Kiehl for continued support and perfect fit pieces along the way.

Received word that Seattle Speedometer finished recalibrating my speedo after going to 205/50/15s. Have used Buz in the past and he does good quality gauge work with fast turn around.

Installed new seat belts from Seat Belt Planet. Also replaced the original shift knob with one from 914rubber that I bought almost two years ago.

Keith914 and I poked the engine into the bay without a hitch. The Rich Johnson motor mount, a full height lift, and the engine on a 3'high rolling bench made the process quite easy to accomplish. Also, my Carbon Fiber "tin" is now made with screw-in fitting so as to allow the engine to be inserted and the side and forward pieces to be installed after the engine is in its mounts - front and back. Also, the CF access hatch proves its value in addressing final after initial warm up.

Perry K. is constructing a harness to mate to the alternator, MSD harness and the other required connections while I am finishing up the fuel system connections to the carbs and awaiting the arrival of two AN-12 fittings to complete the oil system. piratenanner.gif

Finally got the front part of the 'impinged' clutch cable removed from the tunnel a little while ago. What a pain in the, uh... back, that was. I had forgotten how working in cramped spaces affects old bones and muscles dry.gif - I just took a norco, so I'll be OK shortly smoke.gif

Continuing with the six conversion....I see some of you on the same track as me already have the engines installed. I hope I will be driving mine by summertime. Fuel pressure regulator and fuel lines run.

Can someone tell me if it is OK that the fuel inlet side steps down in diameter after the fuel filter? I am running low pressure fuel pump for carbs. I know I probably dont need the regulator but I like the idea of being able to dial in the pressure.

Steve came by the shop to take a tour and get out of his house for a while / so we installed a oil line clamp to immobilize the stock 914-6 oil line leaving the oil tank. I also installed the carbon fiber "tin" after the insertion of the engine a few days ago. Awaiting a few AN fittings to complete the oil lines. Once the wiring harness comes in, it will be installed and off to the first startup.... Yikes!

No new pix so an old one showing my (now) 31 year old son in one of my earlier rides / and another later targa that was totaled in a T-bone with my lovely wife at the wheel and my son in the impact side....

Yesterday I finalized the oil system from front to back / all in AN12 on SS braided hose. FYI the Summit Racing AN-12 screw in type fittings verses hose clamp fittings are very easy to assemble given a chop saw w/ vice and a drop or two of oil along the way. I also bead blasted and painted my headers with 2000 degree paint that will not last forever but looks great prior to initial fire up.... av-943.gif

The pictures here show where I would like to have the three cables under and away from the headers. How did the factory do this - maybe via a bracket - but how to do this without using a case bolt is the issue (can you say oil leak?)? Or how others have secured cables? I know it wasn't with zip ties.... blink.gif

I also firesleeve covered the brake cables that are near the headers. All new hardware on the studs and muffler end of the headers too... / Today is finalize the accelerator linka adjustments from pedal to carb butterflies.

Awaiting Perry's artistry on the wiring harness and then it is time to oil it up and fire it up. piratenanner.gif

Fixed high beams, fog lights and horn today.

The high beam problem was interesting, the ratcheting relay was working, but not sending current to the high beams. I took it apart, cleaned the contacts and re-tensioned the copper arm, now it works as it should again.

I picked up a 1.8 liter engine off craigslist that was taken out of a running car. The price was amazing for a running engine. It got better when I went to pick it up. It included everything but the transmission. Engine, tins, complete injection system with ecu and harness, complete exhaust with stainless heat exchangers were all part of the deal.

I would normally question the truth of a claim that it came out of a running car but I trust the word of the guy(s) who sold it to me. I bought it from Patrick Motorsports. It was pulled out of a car that got one of their 6 conversions.

It is a good day.
I want to throw out a huge thank you to the guys at PMS for helping me get it loaded in my vehicle.

QUOTE(mrbubblehead @ Dec 17 2011, 09:07 PM) *

i just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys do day to day on your cars.

i'll start,

about a month ago, i pulled my engine and trans to put in a new clutch. had the flywheel lightened and resurfaced. but what i didnt know is that i had to shim the little ball that the clutch arm rides on, after a resurfacing. so guess what i did today?

yup, pulled the trans and put an extra washer under the ball. you have to goop up both washers to get it to seal because the threaded hole goes all the way thru to the inside of the trans. i also replaced the plastic cup that the ball rides in. the throwout bearing and its little plastic blocks were fine so i buttoned every thing back up. 5 hours total. i think this has been the cheapest repair yet on my car. $2.75 for the little plastic cup.

what did you do to your 914 today?

I started the install of steel GT flares today.Click to view attachment
