Tear down? What are you doing? Your car doesn't need to be "torn down".

Tear down? What are you doing? Your car doesn't need to be "torn down".

My to do list:

Rings & Valves at minimum...have to pull the motor for a refresh
Repair Hell Hole Rust
Replace Front Trunk Pan
Replace & Weld Rear Trunk Hinge
Have Donor Trunk, Front Lid & doors to replace those panels with Rust
Remove fuel tank: clean & refinish
Full bare Metal 3 stage paint job
Powder coat engine Tin
New windshield & Trim
All New Rubber

Going from an average #3 car to an excellent #2 car when completed, at least thats the plan. I want to knock it out all at once.

I would recommend both (or more)parties wear welding helmets lest festivities/activities last beyond the eclipse time.

Just a suggestion. YMMV

Be careful removing undercoating from ANY 914 parts ... you don't want them to rust - lol

OK, so I unlocked the driver's side door and pulled on the exterior handle ... and it's not doing what its supposed to do mad.gif

I see the interior lock lever move when I turn the key and I can open the door from the inside, but that doesn't really help much dry.gif Thankfully I got in from the passenger's side

What's the fix? unsure.gif

In the interim, I'll be reconnecting the throttle linkage, the floorboard and the new 914 Rubber gas pedal mueba.gif

You need to remove, overhaul, repair both door latch and lock mechanisms lubricate and re-install. Best fix I can think of and they probably need it. biggrin.gif Not hard to do. Even you could do it. av-943.gif

I didn't do it today, but will report it today. On Saturday, I installed 2.0l SSI exchangers and a Bursch muffler on my '75 1.8l. I would have put the 1.8 SSI exhangers on but the 1.8 muffler that i bought didn't fit headbang.gif Sounds a little raspy but will have to do for now. To make the job complete, I installed all the necessary hardware and tubes to insure that the heat would work. Only problem was the plate that covers the shift rod... It hit in 1st and reverse, so I removed it.

Next project is Petronix ignition and hook up the cable from the thermostat and see what is wrong with my fog light switch. smoke.gif

OK, so I removed the driver's side door panel ... found a semi-circular piece of 'whitish' plastic laying at the bottom of the door. Next, I removed the exterior handle and almost immediately determined where that broken piece came from. Spent an hour looking through boxes in the parts shed, but didn't find the new door handle repair parts I purchased from Mark a couple of years ago (they're probably in the garage in AZ) dry.gif

In any event, I also sprayed some PB onto the latch mechanism, so that's working nice and free now.

Why did the door handle parts have to break a couple days after I received a bunch of other 914Rubber stuff headbang.gif

Placing an order for the parts as soon as I finish up this post.

One good thing though, I found a bunch of other shit nice parts that I can place in the classifieds shades.gif

EDIT: Order completed smile.gif

I continued to work with my new tuning Guru Keith914 to get the tune right on the carbs / we are THAT close...... decent idle, decent range of rpm but dizzy curve seems to be holding back the kind of power experienced when tuned with higher advance but crapy idle / everything is connected..... hissyfit.gif

Random pix for Mark so he doesn't wail on me too much poke.gif :

Two of which: A gal in Laguna just sold me a 133 mile 1990 250 NX timecapsule for 300 bucks / sitting in her garage wrapped in plastic tarps and WD-40 since 1990 when she dumped it on her driveway when brand new, broke the turn signal units and covered it for 27 years in her garage........ it runs fine.

WTF.gif

Good enough Mark? (See you in AZ soon)
euro911
Wow, that NX was a steal. You taking it to AZ?

I have a '66 Honda 160 Scrambler in the AZ. I brought the carbs out here and still need to rebuild them before I get back out there.
euro911
As if there wasn't already enough on my plate, with the cabin access (door handle) issue popping up, it just added more time to the 'delay list'.

I removed the driver's side door panel and exterior handle, then cleaned and lubed the latch and interior handle mechanisms. Will be moving to the passenger side later today - or tomorrow .... and continue waiting for the new door handle cams to arrive popcorn[1].gif

Last night, as I was searching for the cams I had previously purchased (which proved fruitless), I ran across a large box with some really nice un-cut door panels that I had purchased from Chris (Tbone425) about a year ago. The panels came with all the trimmings and everything's in stunning shape drooley.gif ... I had to go back to see what Chris sold these to me for, and was pleasantly reminded that they were only $110. shipped aktion035.gif

I also have to mention that Chris did an awesome job of packing everything too first.gif

I just finished wiping a little bit of dust off of them and will be installing them after fixing the door handle thing. The old panels did the job, but left a lot to be desired in the looks department barf.gif

I'm not going to spray the 'new' panels with the Duplicolor tan fabric paint like I did to the old panels ... black will work just fine shades.gif

However, I did decide to repaint the center armrest since it was out of the car ...

OK, some more rework required dry.gif

I was able to correct the accelerator cable problem, or at least I thought so. Untangled it in the tunnel, installed the ball-cup fitting on the end, put some grease in the cup and attached it to the bell crank. Cut an access notch in the forward tunnel access plate, installed a rubber grommet and routed the new extra power cable into the gauge console area ... installed the plate and the foot pedal board, and started to install a new 914 rubber accelerator pedal.

I was finally starting to smell some success, but as I was attempting to snap the ball cup fitting on the pedal rod onto the ball on the other side of the bell crank, I heard a little thud sound ... which was the fitting on the end of accelerator cable - hitting the tunnel floor headbang.gif ... Apparently, I didn't fully seat it.

I have to remove the pedal board and access plate to grab the fuchin' cable again. I know it doesn't seem like a big chore, and it really isn't (in my mind) - just frustrating, because my back is already twisted up from working in the confined space from the prior couple of days ... wacko.gif

... need to employ a young neighborhood 'apprentice' one of these days shades.gif
