Morons who believe the government should provide for you from the cradle to the grave. I was born here and CA has gone straight down the toilet. Garbage everywhere, graffiti, seriously overgrown vegetation all over the freeways, accident debris that is just left on the freeways- bumpers, grills, wheels, etc, pot holes that ruin wheels and tires, and homeless POS MF'ers all over with their hands out who poop and pee all over and just pile up their junk on public property. The police and government do absolutely nothing to curtail this criminality which impacts everyone's quality of life. Oh, did I mention this whole sanctuary city and possibly sanctuary state under the moonbeam idiot?
Wow! You should move to seal beach.

Probably save that for the sand box even though I agree with you.

Today, I used the rear trunk lid on the '71 as a work bench. Had to install some exterior siding on an old porch remodel that I didn't quite finish. My wife said we weren't going to the 914 Fun Day unless I took care of some loose ends around the house

From the front. I replaced the grommets around horn wires and pulled the spot light wires inside and tidied them up as they're not being used.
My son helped remove the gearbox. I managed to get the lower studs out to fit longer ones to properly secure the gearbox.
Having received the better quality push rod tube seals I changed those on one side.
Finally I got the top dash pad ready for a blow over with texture paint. The engine tinware is also now ready for paint.

Those gatherings above look awesome.
I just managed to finish painting the tinware and valve covers before it rained. Bought some dark grey caliper paint but that will have to wait as the house now stinks enough! I also replaced the studs in the case that the gearbox slides onto for longer ones. 10.8 high tensile should be ok for that.
More tomorrow

Rolled out the '70 -6 conversion for a wash. Its maybe 95% done and drives nicely. I have to level the eyelids, paint and wire the horn butterfly, add the deck lid grill (and have another grill to modify to a GT lid), needs carpet, weld the clutch tube, I have heat exchangers and am gathering parts to add these, on an on. But did I say it drives nicely in the meantime?

I installed the engine lid seal from 914Rubber. A paint stick helps push it in place when your thumb gets sore. You have to cut it to length and this time I got lucky. I was about 1/4" short when I did this on the '72 some time back. Its better to cut it a bit long and then just trim it little by little.
Closing the lid pulls a short section of rubber off the metal seam even tho I have the lid as far to the rear as I can without scratching the trunk lid. I'll leave it for today and check it tomorrow. I may have to somehow trim the rubber.
And I just may leave the grill off. Surely it will improve airflow (okayyy...) and it makes it easy to retrieve tools left in the engine bay before blasting off on a test drive.

I once thought of doing something similar to this. One of my brainstorming ideas was to get a mid mounted radiator, while using the center tunnel as ram air from the front bumper.
