...you get the idea.

My 74 was finally shot this week oem silver. (que canned applause.)

I remember one of the things that always bothered me was the rust residue that would gather on the paint from the wiper pivot in the valley where the arm would attatch to the linkage on the cowling in front of the windshield.

?Does anyone have recommendations (other than "don't get caught in the rain.") as to what I can do on installation to avoid this as I re-assemble post paint?

Stainless steel 8mm nut / washer?
Plastic washer / cover at base? idea.gif

I did pick up a pair of 911 wiper arms that have the plastic cap over the mounting nut but I have seen this valley fill with water submerging the pivot hardware until I soaked it up with a towel.

Advise requested.

Thanks in advance.

Not much you can do about it. I blow it out with compressed air after washing or wick it out with a towel when rain stops. The plastic caps over nuts are stock and should be there.

I am afraid that you may indeed be correct. Perhaps this was another design oops by Porsche like the rain running off of the battery. I think that Porsche should have raised the wiper mounts like little bumps / nipples vs the indentations.

Heinsight.

in one of the prototypes there are drain tubes under the cowl.

nice catch nath.

I guess I could have drilled and plumbed a drain hole. Too late now. Paint and clear on board already.

I wonder if the hole with the fitting would have been a new rust point that we would be dealing with today? I could only imagine calling up Restoration Design and adding front cowl to the battery shelf and hell hole patch buy list. I would rather give it a wipe now and then.

Nothing to do about it other than don't drive in the rain, and dry it off if you do. But seriously, this area (if it's been painted correctly) shouldn't be particularly rust prone, unless you leave it parked out in the rain like the first few owners did. wink.gif
